27. Human Machine Interface (HMI)

27.1 General

As standard human-machine interface, the integrated operator

terminal E-300 is employed, see the picture below, that contains
display and operation keys in one unit.

The E-300 operator terminal has as its task, the presentation of

process data as a supplement to the traditional instruments and
indicating lights. The terminal will also be used in order to
control special functions such as, for example, ReductionZone.
All calibration must be carried out from the operator terminal.

E-300 HMI Panel

As an option, a larger panel such as E900 can be delivered in the

Basic system.

27.1.1 System description

The operator terminal is connected to the PCU and is mounted on

the front door of the propulsion cabinet.

The operator terminal is an integrated unit with display,

numerical keyboard, function buttons and indicator lights.

With an operator terminal three important tasks may be carried

out.
• Presentation of process data
• Activation and installation of functions in the remote control
system
• Configuration of the system
27.1.1.1 Presentation of process data

The displays in the operator terminal are structured so that the

main page shows a range of process data for the whole system.

In order to display further information, reference is made to sub-

pages that present all available data regarding the selected
function or physical unit.
27.1.1.2 Activating and setting of functions in the remote control system

Some functions in the remote control system must be configured

and activated from the operator terminal. The advantage of this
is that it is possible to vary the way a function works in different
operating conditions.
27.1.1.3 Configuration of the system

The whole remote control system is configured from the operator

terminal, the relevant displays are then password protected.

27.1.2 Operation

27.1.2.1 General

The operator panel has built-in operating buttons that are used
and that have the following manner of operation:
The “list” button will bring up the alarm list

The “acknowledge” button will receipt active alarms

The “previous” button will og back to the previous page

The “main” button will bring up the main display

The “arrow keys” are used for moving the cursor in the display

The “backspace” button will delete the character that is in

front of the cursor in the display

The “enter” button will carry out the selected function, e.g.
accept a value that has been inserted or carry out a menue
choise

The “numerical” buttons are used for inserting values

7000 BASIC 27 - 5
27 Human Machine Interface (HMI) 4427E001b

The function buttons/LED indicators are used for

activating/indicating functions. The function buttons/LED
indicators may be permanently assigned to a function or they
may have a manner of operation that varies with each display
shown. The relevant manners of operation will then be presented
in the display.

The LED indicators are used to indicate functions. These are

permanently assigned and the function is shown in the
description in the field below.

27.2.1.7 F7 -Load Limitation

The sub window/menu shown above is the one that will appear by
pressing F7 from the main menu.

In this window the operator can choose to set a manual Load

Reduction or as we call it a Load Limitation.

The operator must highlight the field “Load Reduction ON/OFF”

by pressing the arrows up and down until this field is blinking.
By pressing “Enter” the function will be toggled On and Off.

The operator can then set the wanted reduction manually by

typing the value with the number keys and then accept the value
by pressing the “Enter” button. The load control in the system
will then take into account this amount of load reduction and
limit the maximum load of the engine with this amount of load,
hence a 10% Load Reduction set in this menu is equal to a
maximum load limitation of the engine to 90%. The control
system will not allow the load and the engine to exceed this limit.
• “Load Reduction Overrided”, shows if the function has been
overrided by a push button. This activation will then disable
this “Load Limitation” together with the “Rate Limiter” and
the “Load Reduction” from an external system. Hence
maximum load of the system is then available.

position to. The Pitch controller will try to achive a deviation
of Pitch order and Pitch Feedback less then this deadband. A
correction signal will be sent to the controller as long as the
deviation is larger then the inner deadband. The value is set as
a percentage to an accuracy of 2 decimal points.
• ”Outer” – This deadband, which will typically be greater than
the inner one, is used to hold a position without too many
corrections. The Pitch controller will not start to correct the
Pitch position unless the deviation between Pitch order and
Pitch Feedback is larger then this outer deadband. The value
is set as a percentage to an accuracy of 2 decimal points.

areas where the speed change is set for each area, including
whether the drive speed increases or decreases.
• ”RPM” – Drive speed is set in whole revolutions. The first
element will be set as idling speed and the last element is full
drive speed.
• ”Ch up” – This value states how quickly the drive speed
increases upon a command change when the drive speed is to
be found in the area between the two overlying drive speed
values. The value is set as a percentage change per second
without a decimal place.
• ”Ch down” – This value states how quickly the drive speed falls
upon a command change when the drive speed is to be found
in the area between the two overlying drive speed values. The
value is set as percentage change per second without a
decimal place.

• ”Overload K Low” – This is the K value that is used to adjust

the propeller pitch speed in the area from ”Centerpoint” a) up
to 100 % load, see figure above. This value will form the shape
of the curve between a) and c). The value is stated as a figure
between 0 and 1, to 2 decimal points accuracy. A value of 0.5
will set a straight line, a value of 0.1 will set a steep curve from
the start in a) and a value of 0.9 will set a steep curve when
reaching the end point c)
• ”Overload K High” – This is the K value that is used to adjust
the propeller pitch speed in the area from Deadband Outer f)
to ”Extreme Overload” g), see figure above. The value is stated
as a figure between 0 and 1, to 2 decimal points accuracy. A
value of 0.5 will set a straight line, a value of 0.8 will set a steep
curve in the end when reaching g) and a value of 0.1 will set a
steep curve when starting from f).
• ”Centerpoint”- See figure above a), is a load point in percent,
stated to 2 decimal points accuracy. Load lower than this point
involves maximum propeller pitch speed. Load higher than
this point involves a propeller pitch speed calculated
according to ”Overload K Low”.
• ”Extreme Overload” – See figure above g) is a load point in
percent, stated to 2 decimal points accuracy. This point, as
well as ”Overload K High” determines the characteristics of
the propeller pitch speed at loads over 100%.
• ”Deadband Inner” – See figure above, between d) and e). This
deadband around 100 % will stop the Pitch corrections until
load is again outside this load deadband. The value is set in %
to two decimal points accuracy.
• ”Deadband Outer” – See figure above, between c) and d) and e)
and f). This deadband, that is greater than the inner deadband,
is used to hold a position without too many corrections. If the
Load is between these limits minimum speed is wanted in the
system in order to achieve a smooth regulation of the pitch
position around the maximum Pitch position. The value is set
in % to two decimal points accuracy.

27.3.6.4.3 Set-up syncro timer

• “Syncro Control Failure” – This timer is the setting for time

period from the start time of which the syncro levers failure is
detected. In order to detect a syncro failure, the system must
detect a deviation between slave order and master feedback.
When the deviation is larger than the deadband for the syncro
levers and the lever is not responding, the syncro levers will
be disabled after the time period had expired. If then the
deviation again is detected as changing, the system will again
try to move the levers to the master order.

27.3.6.5 F5 - Set-up load

The system will estimate the load of the engine when the function
is being activated. The function is activated by the 100%
mechanical switch on the fuel rack. This to calculate the load
when the fuel pump is at the mechanical stop.

An addition of the step relative to the normal relative load is

being performed each time period, both calibrated, see below. A
subtraction of the same relative load and time period is
performed when the mechanically switch is set OFF.
• “Load Step” – This values is the setting for the increase of
estimated load when the function has been activated. The step
is stated in percentage relative load
• “Sample Time” – This value is the setting for time period
between each addition and subtraction of the relative load.
The value is stated in seconds and the accuracy is with one
decimal.
