Ocean

Acidification
WHAT IS IT?
Ocean Acidification occurs when
the pH level of the ocean water
decreases.

MAIN CAUSES
Carbon Dioxide is the main cause of this
disaster as it does not only affect the
atmosphere but also the ocean surface.
Factories, fossil fuels and deforestation all
play a part in ocean acidification.

THE EFFECTS
Acids break down and destroy the shells
of animals like oysters and clams. Acids
rapidly slow down the growth of corals
and sea sponge.

CURRENT STATUS
The current ocean’s pH level is 8.1 This is a
drastic change from the previous pH levels.
Humans are mainly focusing on things like
sustainability and the plastic in the ocean but
this issue is as important as the others.

SOLUTION
The main solution is to stop emitting huge
amounts of carbon dioxide, stop burning
fossil fuels and stop deforestation. We
must solve these problems if we want to
stop ocean acidification.
