After reading Kamryn’s reflection on the first official chapters of Transforming educational

pathways for Chicana/o Students a critical race feminista praxis, by Delores Bernal and Enrique
Aleman, I was full of optimism for the future of the education system. This class and it’s
reflections show a very promising future for the next generation when it comes to the outlook
many of us are getting through the material. The way Kamryn talks about mindset having a huge
impact in the way these teachers worked tirelessly to implement Adelante as a program and write
the book about its reflection is correct. Too often, people’s mindset can easily change with
surrounding environment, and it becomes easy to give in and give up. These authors did just the
opposite of that and more often than not, it is those kinds of people who create and inspire
change in the world, not just its schools. I also found it strange how the program was started in a
state like Utah and how the school she went to in Kansas also consisted of many Chicana/o
students that were first generation students.
