Bus

Definition of Bus:
Bus is a large motor vehicle which carries passengers from one place to another.
Buses drive along particular routes, and usually operating as part a schedule
service.

History of Buses:
The first bus was probably a large, steam-driven stagecoach that operated in
England in 1830. The early vehicle was called an omnibus, a Latin word meaning
“for all,” later abbreviated to bus. In 1895 an eight-passenger bus powered by a four-
to six-horsepower, single-cylinder engine was built in Germany. From 1905 to 1962
buses in Berlin pulled trailers that carried additional passengers. By 1915 bus
service had started in many larger towns throughout the world. In a number of
communities, city buses replaced horse-drawn or electric trolley cars. Suburban and
intercity bus transportation also began about that time.
Early buses consisted of a truck chassis with a bus body mounted on top. Therefore,
the structural development of buses paralleled that of trucks. In 1922 a United States
firm manufactured the first vehicle with a chassis designed specifically for bus
service. Its frame was about one foot (30 centimeters) lower than that of a truck, and
it had an extra-long wheelbase, a wide tread, and a front-mounted engine. Soon the
same manufacturer developed an integral-frame bus, which had twin engines
mounted beneath the floor at the center. The integral frame provided greater
strength by utilizing the roof, floor, and sides of the bus as a single structural unit.

Importance of Buses to commuters:

 Improve Road Congestion - No one like to be stuck in traffic, but rising population
demand improvements in road infrastructures that can be costly a take a lot of time.
However, road construction can often make the situation more challenging before it
get better. The benefits of public transportation more people riding on buses, trains
and another public systems.
 Improves community mobility – Many people do not have capability to drive, so
public transportation is sometimes the only option to them help get to their
destination.
 Reduce Congestion – A single bus can carry tens of people and still occupies
almost the same space as some large personal vehicles.
