Dear School Leader/Principal,

There has been a rise in Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis) cases including some regions where
British Council examination centres are located. The Pink Eye infection can be highly
contagious.

The health and safety of candidates and our venue staff is of utmost importance, so we are
taking precautions in our upcoming November 2023 exam session.

• We strongly urge any candidate diagnosed with Pink Eye or exhibiting symptoms
NOT to show up at the exam venue. Candidates will not be permitted to take the
exam, even if they are wearing sunglasses to cover this.
• If candidates are experiencing symptoms, they should notify us through their school
in advance, via email at cambridgeschools@britishcouncil.org.pk, providing personal
information, exam dates, and a description of symptoms.

If a candidate is unable to take the exam because they have Pink Eye infection:

Entry withdrawal: Candidates, in consultation with and through their schools, can opt for
entry withdrawal and refund as per the policy already shared by the British Council.

Special Consideration: Candidates after consulting with their school can apply for special
consideration as per Cambridge's special consideration policy.

In case a candidate misses an exam due to conjunctivitis and is provided with special
consideration option, they will get an assessed mark for the missed exam on the basis of
their performance in the other exam(s) they sat in November 2023 series. It’s important that
schools inform their candidates about how Cambridge calculates assessed marks to enable
candidates to make an informed choice.

We kindly request all candidates to follow good hygiene precautions to reduce the risk of
transmission. This includes frequently washing your hands and refraining from touching your
eyes. Candidates are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer in a clear bottle.

We apologise for any inconvenience but your cooperation is vital in ensuring a safe and
healthy examination environment for all. We appreciate your understanding and commitment
to the well-being of our exam community.

If there are any significant updates, we will share these with you. You can also refer to our
Facebook page and website.

Please feel free to reach out to the British Council for further guidance at

We are here to assist you during this challenging time.

British Council
