STUDENT INFORMATION BROCHURE – DURING COVID RESTRICTIONS

1. Eligibility Criteria for Admission to the Course:

a) Possession of Certificate of Competency of Chief Mate (F.G) or Chief Mate (NCV), and
b) At least 18 months sea service as a certified watch-keeping officere.

2. Documents to be submitted by the Trainee:

a) One passport size photograph, and


b) Copy of Certificate of Competency of Chief Mate (F.G) or Chief Mate (NCV)

3. Course Duration: 36 hours (5 days)

4. Mode of Delivery: Fully (100%) at the Institute

5. Course Intake: Four (04) candidates per batch

6. Course Fee: Rs. 37,000/- per candidate.

7. Attendance: 100% attendance is compulsory. If the attendance of the trainee is less than 100%, the student shall be required
to undertake training in the missed-out module(s) of the course in any subsequent batches within 3 months to qualify for
attendance and re-assessment However, if a candidate is absent for more than one day, he needs to repeat the entire course.

8. Evaluation / Assessment: There shall be continuous monitoring/assessment of the candidate’s performance during the
course. At the end of the course, there shall be an assessment comprising of objective and descriptive type questions.

9. Re-evaluation / Re-assessment: Weak candidates identified during the course / exercises shall be offered additional hands-
on training after the class hours. Candidates who are unable to meet the minimum pass criteria in the course-end assessment
shall be re-assessed with the subsequent batch assessments/special assessment. Every candidate shall be permitted to a
maximum of three attempts at the assessment. If any trainee is unsuccessful after three assessment attempts, he shall repeat
the entire course.

10. Attendance at the Institute: Attendance during the practical at the Institute shall be on the Centralized Attendance System
(CAS) of the DGS through facial recognition. For attendance purposes, candidate shall be enrolled with their INDoS Number. The
facial recognition shall be done matching the captured image with the existing one (from the DGS attendance web portal - where
seafarers have uploaded their photo). Candidates are requested to check and update their photo by logging into the portal
https://220.156.188.229/ using the same credentials (log in ID & password) as for their e-governance profile.

11. Need of Updating your INDoS profile: Your Batch Details for the course can be uploaded on DGS e-governance system only if
your photo, signature, name, date of birth, INDoS number, mobile number and e-mail ID are uploaded.

12. E-Certificate: On satisfactory completion of the course, e-certificate shall be generated on the certificate portal of the DGS e-
governance system. The e-certificate is digitally signed by the Institute’s representatives. The e-certificate fields of candidate's
Name, Date of Birth, INDoS Number, Photograph and Signature are auto populated from e-governance system without manual
intervention. To ensure that you do not face problems with your certificate details, you are requested to ensure that your e-profile
on e-governance is updated and correct.

13. How to Assess suitability of your photo on e-governance and process Change Request (if necessary)? To assess suitability of
your photograph that is currently uploaded on e-governance and for the process to change photograph / signature / data, kindly
refer to DGS order 07 of 2021 dated 28.01.2021. The said order and other pertinent orders are available on DGS website and may

15. Safety Instructions / Precautions to be followed: Following care / precautions are to be compulsorily adhered to while attending
the course:

• Co-operation with Institute’s staff at the entrance in:


i. Checking that you have downloaded Arogya Setu App in your mobile
ii. Thermal scanning,
iii. Hand-sanitization

• Enter the Institute only when permitted by the Institute staff at the entrance.

• You are physically fit and have no symptoms of COVID infection. In case of any doubt, please refrain from attending the
course.

• You are neither living or coming from a containment zone nor would you be visiting areas falling within the containment
zones during the period of the course.

• Maintain safe distancing of at least 6 feet.

• Mandatory Use of face covers/masks throughout.

• Frequent hand washing with soap (for at least 40-60 seconds) even when hands are not visibly dirty. Use of alcohol-based
hand sanitizers (for at least 20 seconds) can be done wherever feasible.

• Respiratory etiquettes to be strictly followed. This involves strict practice of covering one's mouth and nose while
coughing/sneezing with a tissue/handkerchief/flexed elbow and disposing off used tissues properly.

• Self-monitoring of health by all and reporting any illness at the earliest.

• Spitting shall be strictly prohibited.

• Carry your own meals and drinking water

• Sanitize hands every time you enter the ECDIS lab.

• On all days, use the same designated ECDIS station – do not use/touch the equipment other than one assigned to you.

• Carry your own stationery and writing material. Refrain from borrowing / sharing same.

• Tea shall be served by Institute staff, twice a day in disposable glasses. The service shall be contactless and placed on a table
for participants to pick by themselves.

• All garbage needs to be disposed off in covered garbage bins placed at the entrance of each floor.

• The lift/elevator shall be in power off mode. Please use the staircase. Avoid touching/holding to handrails to the extent
possible.

• Please use your private mode of transport for commuting to and from the Institute.

• In case you notice any symptoms or signs of ill-health in your own health of others at the Institute, please report same
immediately to the Institute’s staff.
