Bapatla-1

Avadhutas like Sri Brahmananda teertha,Sri Brahmananda saraswati, Sri Bhodanandendra

saraswathi who got initiated with the blessings of Sri vasudevananda saraswati born on telugu
soil in 19th and 20 th centuries who lived in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and varanasi for many
years and great personality Sri Tadepalli Raghava Narayana sastri propagated Datta
sampradaya extensively in Telugu speaking regions.
In the year 1928,Sri Brahmananda teertha built Dattatreya temple and Veda school in Siva
temple of Bapatla.

Marripudi-2
This kshetra is situated near Appikatla,which comes in between vijayawada-Ongole rail route.
Sri Brahmananda teertha swami built Marripudi Dattatreya temple. He established Dattatreya
garden by bringing rare species of plants from Himalayas. This garden is located opposite to the
temple.
Brahmananda teertha: He is known to be from Tuni. He took Sanyas from Anandananda
teertha in Varanasi and toured the country. His soft spoken nature, charming face,Renunciation
and tolerance attracted people. He used to renovate, clean temples and establish Datta temples
in many towns. He revived Sanskrit language.He used to celebrate Datta Jayanti along with
other festivals.when he was enroute to another town, musical sounds and rhythmic bhajans by
forest goddesses used to be heard upon crossing of the town.
He used to take tender neem leaves and milk during his last days. During his last days, he
used to explain Vedanta bhashya in manikarnika ghat of Varanasi. When he was asked to take
medicine, he replied “ medicine too for this log?”. He attained Kapala moksha, the goal of all
yogic practices by leaving the prana through sahasrara chakra with his yogic power in a
meditated state on shravan bahula ashtami (eighth day of second fortnight,fifth month of Hindu
lunar calendar) 15th August,1915.His body was immersed in Ganga river.

Sri Vibhuti mutt( Srisailam)-3

We read that Sripada Sri vallabha swami went to Gokarna after staying in pithapuram for 16
years.He went to srisailam for observance of chaturmasya deeksha. He taught sri tripura
rahasya to many yogis by staying in vibhuti mutt during observance of chaturmasya from
ashada shuddha ekadashi to karthik shuddha ekadashi. There is a big rock in mutt. Sri Parvati
and Parameshwara play chess during the night on this rock. They enter srisailam temple during
early hours of the day.Mother Parvati keeps a small amount of swami’s vibhuti affectionately on
this rock for yogis and sadhakas every day. Yogis reach a higher state with the help of that
vibhuti. That rock is called vibhuti rock. As that rock is there in the mutt, it is known as vibhuti
mutt. Here shiva linga associated with Sri chakra installed by Sri pada is there.

 Vannepudi( Pithapuram-4)

Sri pada Sri vallabha at the age of 16 took permission from parents, maternal grandparents and
from other important persons to take Sanyas and to wander all over the country for the
upliftment of the people. He started his journey on foot in the north eastern direction. His
parents, maternal grandparents and other important persons followed him from Pithapuram to
Vannepudi( Approximately 17km). Then he instructed them to stop here and for the last time
took bhiksha (alms) from his mother Sumati. He sent them back and disappeared from this
place in a fraction of a second. As this place is sanctified by the holy feet of Sripada Sri
Vallabha, this town is transformed into a great Datta pilgrimage site. As he took bhiksha here
from his mother, Datta temple located here is called “Datta bhiksha mandir”. One can see an
Audumbar tree here where Sripada Sri vallabha disappeared. Below this audumbar tree only Sri
vallabha peetham with Sripada swami padukas is established.

Nellore-5
Two great personalities Brahmasri Tadepalli Raghava Narayana sastri and pujya sri Acharya
Ekkirala Bharadwaja master installed this Datta Sai mandir on 1.11.1987. Pujya Sri Bharadwaja
master did satsang for the first time sitting in a house in the year 1986. After the construction of
the temple, Managing trustee Sri Kanuparti Subrahmanyam asked Sri Tadepalli Raghava
Narayana Sastri where to install Datta murti. Then he showed a place and instructed to install
Datta murti there only. Miraculously that was the same place where Sri Bharadwaj master sat
and did satsang for the first time. In this way Sri Sastri conveyed the message that Sri
Bharadwaj master is Datta svarupa.
One more miracle happened during the installation of murti. During that time in Nellore
because of the cyclone, there was a downpour with high speed wind. Then Sri subrahmanya
requested Sri Sastri that rain should not cause interruption to installation.Sri Sastri assured him
that until the murti installation of Sainath and Dattatreya is completed, not even a single drop of
rain will fall in these surroundings. After all the devotees reached home post completion of Murti
installation and Annadan,it started raining heavily at around 11pm which continued for 3 days in
Nellore. Sri Bharadwaja master wrote in Sri Sai Leelamrutham that meeting of two mahatmas
in one occasion is very rare and miraculously it happened during this temple installation.

Nandavaram(Kurnool district)-6
Goddess of Kashi came here to give testimony to the Nanda dynasty people and settled here in
stone form.Nanda raja with his yogic energy used to go to Kashi and worship daily. Dattatreya
swami appeared before him in Kashi, taught Sri chakra datta upasana and gave Datta padukas.
These padukas will not be there in the goddess temple of Nandavaram. They are installed in
chennakeshava temple,jyoti mantap near the village called “ vuru vakili”in front of goddess
Chowdeshwari who was seated on a fox. Mantra sadhana which is done in front of this
goddess and Datta padukas will yield fruitful results quickly.
Route map: This place is 10km far from Banaganapally. Buses are available from Kurnool and
Nandyal. Daily annadanam happens and lodging facilities are available. Jai gurudeva Datta.

Mogilicherla-7

Shankara Bhattu realized that he is a native of Mogilicherla in his previous birth and installed
Datta padukas in Mogilicherla after getting released from barber subbayya of tirumala. As per
sthala purana “Saint dattatreya” found the padukas by roaming in Mogilicherla and reinstalled
them as per Datta swami’s order.Padukas can be seen in the picture.

Rajahmundry-Sringeri mutt-8

Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati Swami installed Datta murti and padukas here on the request of
Sri Brahmananda saraswati. Until then Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami installed Datta
murtis with only a single face. For the first time he installed a three faced Datta murti and named
it “ Bhakta vatsala”.
Route: Located in the basement of Sringeri Shankar mutt on the bank of river Godavari. Sri
Vasudevananda Saraswati swami composed 4 stotras on the installation of this Datta murti.

Ongole-9

The muhurat for laying the foundation stone and murti installation of this Dattatreya mandir in
Saibaba temple of Ongole is kept by Sri tadepalli raghava Narayana sastri and foundation was
laid by Sri Bharadwaj master on 16-2-88. Datta murti was installed by Sri vaidehi Anasuya
mata.As per the wish of Sri Bharadwaj master, Sri jv subbayya master organized Datta navratri
celebrations on the occasion of Datta jayanti by Sri Tadepalli raghava narayana sastri.Sri sastri
told Sri Jv subbayya master that one will get blessings of Dattatreya swami if parayana of Sri
gurucharitra is done for 9 days in front of this Datta murti.Sri JV Subbayya master played a
pivotal role in acquiring land and in the construction of Saibaba temple at Ongole.
Note: Samadhi of Sri Bharadwaj master is there in this Sai baba mandir, Ongole.

Secunderabad-10

Avadhuta Sri Bhodanandendra swami installed Datta deity and padukas (lotus feet) here.
1)when he went to Ganagapur, a stranger came to him and gave Datta deity and padukas.
2) The shivling in another picture was put in his lap by a stranger when he was in a meditated
state at Mallikarjuna gutta/ Adda gutta in Malkajgiri.
3) Avadhuta Sri Bhodanandendra saraswati swami.

Dharmapuri-11

Dharmapuri mandal in Jagtial district of Telangana has been flourishing as a pilgrimage place.
Yoga and Ugra Narasimha swamy temple is very famous here. Sri Dattatreya swami did
penance here on the banks of river Godavari. With the Inspiration of Dattatreya swami, Dyaram
Narasimhulu and Rajeshwaramma started construction of Datta mandir.He was leading the life
as purohit in Mumbai. One devotee’s desire was fulfilled by doing parayana and he gave Datta
murti to Sri Narasimhulu. They installed this murti by constructing the temple where Datta swami
did penance. In this way Datta swami made his devotees to establish a temple.
Here many siddha purusha like Sri Gundobavu, pontiffs of Sringeri mutt “Sri Abhinava
vidya teertha swami,Bharati teertha swami did penance. Recitation of Rigveda,
Yajurveda,samaveda,Adharvana Veda and special pujas with Ekadasha rudrabhisheka are
being done during Datta navratri. Datta Puran will be organized in the evening. Here merciful
Datta swami fulfills the desires of devotees. A true incident which happened in this temple:
Person who cleans temple premises cut branches of an audumbar tree in the temple and got a
fever the same day. Datta swami wearing white clothes appeared in his dream and told him that
if anyone tries to cut his hands will be punished. Next day he prayed to Datta swami by breaking
a coconut to forgive his mistake and his fever was reduced.

Varadavelli Dattatreya-12

Here Dattatreya is in the lying position in rahu form( snake form) which is very rare. In the
words of a person who gave information about this holy place: “Dattatreya is formless and has
no bounds. He expanded himself even in vacuum and made directions of the universe as his
clothes. After knowing that Datta swami is in snake form in this kshetra, I visited this holy place
and felt very glad. It is only because of Sri Pada Sri Vallabha’s grace that I got information about
this place and took 30 of the trust members for darshan.I was astonished to see the form of two
intertwined snakes in Datta murti.
Varadavelli village is nearly 175 km from Secunderabad.
Astonishing facts about this temple:
1. Dattatreya swami lying on the ground in Rahu form.
2. Neem trees which are hundreds of years old as representation of Datta swami.

Kodavatur Dattatreya Siddhashram-13

Nrisimha saraswati swami kshetra - Sri kodavatur Dattatreya siddhashram.

Many gurus and saints visited and spent much time in this holy spiritual place. This kshetra
attained much importance during rule of Kakatiyas. Here one can have a beautiful darshan of
Dattatreya along with his paraphernalia. This is a must visit place for Datta devotees.

Basara-14
Basara Datta kshetra: As Shri Nrisimha saraswati swami realized the importance of this
Kshetra, he did penance and daily rituals at this place. Datta temple is located on a small hill at
a distance of 1.5 km from Jnana Saraswati temple which is located in Papahareswara temple
road. Cave where Sri Nrisimha saraswati swami did penance, a tunnel,an old and beautiful
temple of Dattatreya are there in this kshetra which many people do not know.
Here Datta swami has a single face and seems different compared to other Datta murtis. Shri
Nrisimha saraswati swami used to reach shri Papahareswara temple from the cave through a
tunnel. Presently that tunnel way is closed.
From here only, Swami along with his disciples used to go to River Godavari. While Swami was
going to the river his footprints imprinted on sludge stayed for nearly 100 years. Hoardings in
Telugu, English and Marathi languages explaining the significance of this temple are displayed.
It is a must visit place for Datta devotees.

Kotirudram-15
This is the holy place mentioned in 15th chapter of Sri guru charitra and Sri Nrisimha saraswati
swami instructed his disciples to visit this place. Now it is called Rudrakoti,Rudrakoduru. This
kshetra has been in existence from a very long time even before Srisailam. Parama Shiva is
called Rudrakotishwara and Parashakthi as Rudranidevi. Out of 108 siddha peeth as mentioned
in Devi Bhagavata, this is called Rudrapeetham. Devotees can have darshan only on Shiva
ratri, during Magha month and Devi navaratri as this kshetra is located in deep forest where
movement of tigers,Pythons is more. For visit during other times forest department permission is
required.
 While going to Nandyal from Atmakuru, one has to get down at a small village called
NallaKaluva and has to travel 15 km in the forest to reach the temple.
Except on Maha Shiva ratri, Karthika Mondays no bus and stay facilities will be there. To go
during normal days, guidance of a person who knows the route is a must.

Dattachalagutta kshera-16
In the words of a devotee who gave information about this Kshetra:
I was astonished to know that this place is significant for the reasons below. 1. It is sanctified
by the touch of Sri pada’s holy feet
2.Shri Narasimha saraswati swami did penance for 12 years
3.Namadharaka who is the author of holy guru charitra spent the last days of his life.
4. Datta murti is beautiful and different.
Then I collected more information about this place from temple priest and localities for the
benefit of all Datta devotees.

It is 8 km away from Manjeera river. Kasipathi temple which looks similar to Kashi Vishwanath
temple of Varanasi is also there near to Datta temple. One foot impression of Shri Narasimha
Saraswati is there near to Kashipathi temple.
Here only one can have darshan of Datta swami with Chakra. That’s why it is a prominent
female Datta kshetra. (Even the inauguration for temple construction is also done by a female
minister).
Here lawful desires of all females are being fulfilled by the grace of Datta swami.

Srisailam temple-17
Three trees, peepal(Aswath), white fig and fig( Audumber) are intertwined in Srisailam temple.
Devotees worship them as the form of Agasthya Rishi. A small temple of Dattatreya is there
below these trees where Datta swami did penance.
Jai guru Datta.

Manthani(Mantrapuri)- 18
Nearly 100 years ago, a yogini named Domala Radhamma who was a devotee of Dattatreya
swami used to stay at this place. She explained Datta philosophy to many people and
transformed them as Datta devotees. At that time, a nizam minister became a Datta devotee
and helped to build a temple there. Every day recitation of Sri guru charitra authored by Sri
Bhodanandendra swami, conduct of Bhajans and Kirtans are done in the temple. Sri
Vasudevananda Saraswati Swami performed many miracles at this place which is on the banks
of river Godavari. Swami used to attend Jal alms and Agni hotra from in the morning and used
to reach Kaleswara temple in one hour in 60 km.Many old temples are there near to this
temple. Shiva temple Is also there near to Datta temple.

One can reach Manthani by bus , which is 30 km from Ramagundam and 25 km from “ Godavari
khani”.

Muktyala-19
It is 10 km away from Jaggayyapeta. Shri Vasudevananda Saraswati Swami got impressed by
seeing the spiritual inclination of the local people and did Chaturmasya in Shiva temple near to
“koti Lingala revu”. As swami got little free time, he authored Yoga shiksha, Vriddha shiksha and
Stri shiksha. He did Vyasa puja and started chaturmasya. He used to lecture on dharma topics
daily in the evening.
Route map: Khammam to Jaggayyapeta. If 10 traveled for 10 km from Jaggapeta, Muktyala can
be reached. Shri Datta Jayanti and Aradhana are celebrated every year.

Palamakula-20
In the words of a devotee who shared information about this kshetra:
Sri pada rajam sharanam prapadye. Digambara Digambara Sri pada Vallabha Digambara. Jai
sri samskara hina Siva svarupa Dattatreya Maharaj.
Already it was said that in Telangana( Before Nijaam rule) many Datta kshetras used to be
there. Some of them were destroyed and some were neglected. Sri samskara hina Siva svarupa
is 13th incarnation out of 16 Datta avatars. I went to Palamakula and visited this rare and
neglected temple. Information about this temple was given to me by famous Datta devotee Sri
Ramesh. After that I visited that temple and felt very bad seeing the neglected condition of the
temple. Though many efforts were put to know the regional history of Samskara hina Shiva
svarupa Dattatreya swami, much Information was given by Shri Dastagiri of Rajagopalpet and
Sri Anjaneyulu who is an auto driver. Here One prominent thing is Datta swami is seated along
with Ganesha and mother Parvati on the same platform.
Many Datta kshetras are there near to this temple. Some of them are Sri pada Sri Vallabha
Datta kshetra in Rampur village, One trust of Sri Ramlal prabhu ji who is considered as 12 th
incarnation of Datta swami in Velkatur village, Sri Saandrananda Swamy Ashram and
Dattatreya temple, Paduka and Audumber in Marri Mutyala village are worth visiting.

Sri Shiva Datteshwara Datta maharaj-21

There were hundreds of Datta kshetras in Telangana before Nizam rule. During 1515-1545,
Avadhuta Rayudu who is a worshiper of Dattatreya swami built this temple. In this Kshetra,Shiv
ling along with Nandi are there in front of Datta murti.That’ why this temple got fame as Shiv
datteswar temple. Recently three faced Datta murti is installed as murti installed by Sri Avadhuta
Rayudu was stolen by thieves but Shivling was the same one(16th century)as confirmed by
villagers.
Now Shiva Datteswara Dattatreya swamy is worshiped by Yadava community people of
Uddamarri,Muduchinthalapalli and nearby villages as their family deity. All festivals pertaining to
Datta swami like Datta Jayanti, Guru purnima are being celebrated every year.
 Sri Brahmananda Saraswati mutt-22
Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami installed Datta murti which is very similar to Bhakta
vatsala of Shankar mutt in Rajahmundry in Brahmananda saraswati mutt. Many childless
couples worshiped Datta swami in Shankar mutt and blessed with children. Now Brahmananda
saraswati mutt is under the aegis of Sri Kurtalam peetam.This mutt in stone pet is near to
Sadananda Veda pathasala.

Pithapuram-23
As stated by Sri Pada Sri Vallabha swami many times in Sri pada Sri vallabha charitamrutam,
Maha samsthan is established in Pithapuram. This is a must visit holy place for all Datta
devotees. This temple is near “Pedda bazar”, in Venugopala swamy street. Here only Sri pada
Sri Vallabha swami’s padukas are installed. Darshan of his holy feet will fill every inch of our
heart with devotion towards Guru.It is the fortune of telugu people as Datta swami took his first
incarnation in kaliyuga as Sri Pada Sri Vallabha swami in Pithapuram.Have darshan of Datta
swami in Pithapuram without fail.

Panchadeva pahad-24
Panchadeva pahad is historically a prominent place housing five deities 1.panduranga swami
along with Rukmini 2. Sri Lakshmi Narasimha swami 3. Anjaneya swami 4. Raghavendra swami
5. Vigneswara. Many archeological and scriptural evidences are there to prove that it is an
ancient place. Sripada SriVallabha swami used to conduct darbar where Panduranga swamy
temple is there.It was renovated in the year 1238. That means this temple was in existence
many years before.Now in this place Anagha-Datta temple and darbar of Sripada Srivallabha
are there. There is an accommodation facility for the pilgrims. Sripada Swamy used to solve
problems of devotees at this holy place only. It is a must visit Place for all Datta devotees.
Panduranga Swamy temple is near Krishna river. So devotees can visit Kuruvapuram by
crossing the river or After visiting Kuruvapuram, devotees can visit Panduranga Swamy temple.

Navnath gutta-25
Who are these Navnaths?
Navnaths are an expansion of NavNarayana. As per the order of Sripada Srivallabha swami and
because of a promise made during the incarnation of Lord Krishna, they appeared as Navnaths
on Earth. Out of 100 sons of King Rishab, 9 sons who are expansions of Narayana are born as
Navnaths. All Navnaths are Avadhutas and are dear to Dattatreya swami. Just by the
recollection of their names, Sripada Srivallabha swami will be pleased. Along with Navnaths,
Adbangha and Meena nath( Son of Matsyendranath) got the same fame as Navnaths. They all
belong to Nath sampradaya. They are
1. Matsyendranath. 6.Naganath
2. Gorakshanath. 7.Bharthari nath
3. Jalandhar nath. 8. Revana nath
4. Kanif nath. 9. Gahani nath
5. Charpata nath

Manikya prabhu temple-26

Manikya Prabhu’s temple formation in Momenpet and Prabhu’s visit to Mominpet:
Mr and Mrs Sri Krishnamacharya went to Humnabad on official work to meet Nawab in the year
1860. They came to know about Sri Manikya prabhu and went to Manikya nagar to have
Prabhu’s darshan. They humbly expressed their wish to have a successor.Manikya prabhu
smiled and said “ If I bless you with a child, this village boy( Manikya prabhu) also has to come.
Ok I bless you with a child. I will come.” The couple came to their hometown Mominpet and a
baby was born to them after a few months. They named the baby as “Manikya Ratnam”. From
then they started worshipping Sri Manikya prabhu with pure devotion. To express their devotion
towards Sri Manikya prabhu who fulfilled their long time desire, they started construction of
Manikya Prabhu’s temple in the year 1862 which was completed in 1865. They invited Prabhu to
the temple. Prabhu accepted their invitation and visited this temple just before 1 month of his
jeeva samadhi. He went around the temple, established “Datta gadhi”, gave foot impressions
and a danda. Prabhu blessed them and returned to Manikya nagar.
Mominpet is at a distance of 80 km from Hyderabad.

Kadalivanam-27
Sri Nrisimha saraswati swami decided to conceal his gross form and came to Srisailam from
Gangapur, crossed patalganga in a float made with leaves of banana and flowers. He went to
Kadalivan,did penance for 300 years and reappeared as Swami Samartha.
Route map:
 One has to travel for 20 km in patalganga, get down at Venkatesh ki nara. From there one has
to walk for 6 km to reach Akka maha devi cave and have darshan of Datta murti, Shivling and
Swami Samartha padukas(Ant hill).

Warangal-28
This temple was built by Sri Ramayya Sharma during the last decade of the 18th century. The
temple authorities went to Ganagapur, had darshan of Nirguna padukas of Sri guru and from
there went to Manikyanagar. Manikya prabhu gave Dattatreya yantra and 4 dandams.(wooden

Ramayya Sharma. Dattatreya Navratris are celebrated every year. Sri Malladi Chandrashekara

Bhadhanakurti-29
The Datta padukas installed by Vyasa maharshi(Badarayana) are here at this place.
Bhadanakurti is a small island in Khanapur mandal of Nirmal district, Telangana. Eight shiva
lingas were installed in eight directions of this village. Carnival happens in Margasira shukla
panchami.
Route map: one has to reach Khanapur which is 25 km away from Nirmal. From Khanapur,
board a bus which goes to Metpally.on the way to Metpally,alight at Bhadana Kurti. Surjapur
Venkateswara Swamy temple is 2 km from Bhadanakurti Datta paduka temple.

Tripuranthakam-30
It is a pilgrimage place visited by Sripada Srivallabha.
Tripuranthakam is located in eastern direction of Srisailam which is the residing place of
Bhramarambha,Mallikarjuna and a base for old mantra,chaitanya vidya, medicinal
herbs.Tripuranthakam is much revered and glorified kshetra among Shiva shaktheya kshetras. It
is said “Trilokya pavanam theertham tripuranthakam '' in Srisaila khanda of Skanda purana.It is
40km away from Markapur and has to travel 2km away from Guntur-Kurnool main road.

Datta mandir, Kurnool-31

Dattatreya temple is located in the premises of Krishna temple in old Kurnool town. In this
temple, one can have darshan of Datta swami with Lord Shiva’s face and a snake coiled around
the head.

Himayat sagar katta-33
In the words of devotee who gave information about this temple:
Temple is located in the premises of Telangana Research lab in Himayat Sagar katta of
Hyderabad. Datta murti holding danda and kamandulu is self manifested and filled with
radiance.
Had darshan of swami though the outside grill door is locked . As we went with a desire to
perform abhishek for swami, we searched for the key which we got after 30 minutes and
completed puja with a lot of happiness.
This temple is approximately 400 years old. Statue of a yogi named “purudu raju” who did
sadhana here is there below a large peepal tree near the temple.
Sri Rama and Ganesha temples are also there along with Datta temple. As the temple is
located in TSRL,abhishek and puja are not happening timely. Devotees who have the possibility
can visit Datta swami and be blessed.

Sitaram bagh-34
This temple has been in existence for more than 300 years and located in a very serene
environment. Samadhi of Datta devotee, shri siddheshwara maharaj( 80 years) is also there.As
temple is located on a hill having more than 200 steps it is visible from Marepalli cross road
junction. A well used to be there in the temple which was recently closed. Datta murti is very

Ethipothala-35
Yati-tapah-talam(Ethipothala) is an important datta kshetra having a confluence of 3 tributaries
of Krishna 1.Chandravanka, 2.Agnivanka and 3.Surya Vanka. All three rivers merged to form “
Madhu vanka” and mixed with Krishna river.That’s why Sangameshwara temple (In ruined
state)can be seen near Ethipothala waterfall. The place where three tributaries mix and fall from
a height looks similar to Cow’s ear and this Confluence happens in front of Madhumati devi who
is internal potency of Dattatreya, this place is also called by the name “ Triveni Madhumati
Gokarna”. Many Yatis and Rishis gave importance to do penance at this kshetra because of the
presence of Dattatreya with his consort Madhumati devi. As a result “Triveni Madhu Gokarna”
became “ Yati-tapah-talam” and later as “Ethipothala”.
Importance of “Triveni Madhu Gokarna” Datta kshetra:
1. Temple of Dattatreya along with his consort Madhumati devi which is the only one in the
world.

Datta shila ( Big rock) is there on the right side of a big ant hill near to steps which leads to
Datta temple from the main arch of Ethipothala. Many rishis confirmed that Dattatreya used to
take rest on that hill. Sometimes he appears on that rock as if he is drinking. If someone
touches their head to this rock,meditates on Datta swami and sleeps in the vicinity of this rock,
Datta swami grants his darshan without fail.

Manthangod-36
What is the Significance of Vallabhapuram?
This is the place where Shripada Shri Vallabha swami rescued a Brahmin turmeric merchant
from thieves in the year 1351. After the disappearance of Sripada vallabha swami in the year
1350, he reappeared for the first time at this place to safeguard his devotee. Padukas of Sri
pada Sri vallabha swami are there in Pithapuram whereas padukas installed by Vallabhesha
along with Swami’s hand imprints are there only in Manthangoud.
Every afternoon, free food distribution happens (Annadan)in the temple premises. Datta homa
( sacrificial ritual) on every Pournami and Amavasya, Anagha ashtami vrata on every Ashtami,
pradosha ( 13 th day of each lunar fortnight) pujas on every Saturday are performed in this holy
place.
The account of Shri Vallabhesha in the 18th chapter of sampoorna Sri pada Sri vallabha
charitamrita happened at this place only.

Jangalapalle(Cuddapah district)-37
This temple is more than 100 years old. When thieves tried to dig this temple for hidden
treasures, 3 snakes came and didn’t allow them. Thieves were unable to even move the deity.
This is the miracle of swami. Shiva temple is there in the south eastern direction of this temple.
There are 3 old doorways to this temple. A pond and flagstaff are located towards the eastern
doorway.
Pond in front of the temple has sweet water and was 30 feet deep but at present it is only 10
feet deep because of silt formation.

This temple was built by a childless couple in the year 1912 as some one advised them to
worship Sri Dattatreya swami to beget a child. Here Dattatreya swami is very effulgent. There is
a tunnel below Datta murti which leads to Ganesha temple. Dattatreya temple is 4km away from
Sri sita rama temple(Lingam dinne). A snake used to be there in Datta temple.Every year
Dattatreya swami jayanti is celebrated in a grand way.

Datta murti in Gani village,Gadi vemula mandal,Kurnool district of Andhra pradesh has only one
face and yoga pattika wrapped around his legs is very rare. This village used to be called as
“Vidvat gani '' in olden times as many Vedic scholars used to live here during Sri
Krishnadevaraya time.Many great saints also lived here. In 15 th century, a great saint Sri Giri
appayyachari used to worship Sri Veera Narayana swamy with great devotion as the center of
the solar system by taking only cow milk.He built this temple with his own hands and entered
sajiva Brindavan at this place. Datta swami facing north can be seen during the
circumambulation of the temple. More than 9 sajiva brindavans of great saints are there in this
village. When this temple reached a ruined stage in the later times, Avadhuta Sri Kasireddy
nayana established an ashram and arranged for timely worship in the temple.Though Datta
swami has no special temple, murti built by Sri Giri appayyachari is unique and a must visit for
Datta devotees.

Sri kshetra Latur-40
Sri guru explained dharmic principles and sent his disciples for pilgrimage as mentioned in 14
and 15th chapters of Sri Guru charitra. Then he lived in solitude for one year in Vaidyanath
kshetra. The holy place he stayed was Sadananda Datta mutt in Niranjan vanam of Sr kshetra
Latur. During his stay here, he gave Sanyas diksha to a prime disciple Nandinama and blessed
him that 8 saints will take birth in his home. Out of those 8 saints born in his lineage, the eighth
one is Sri Bala govinda saraswati swami. He used to stay in this mutt. He did Gayatri ritual (
Anushtan) at the age of 8, accepted Sannyasa order at the age of 12 and holiest Dandayati at
the age of 14. Likewise in Ganagapur, padukas made by Sri Nrisimha saraswati swami himself
are there in Sadananda Datta mutt. Sri Nrisimha Saraswati Swami used to do his daily ritual at
those padukas. He used to bless people in mutt and told them that nirguna padukas are his
form only. Devotees will have the same experience at these nirguna padukas similar to that of
Padukas in Gangapur. One prominent thing here is that Datta padukas are there on each side of
shivling. Daily abhishek for shivling is done with milk rice and curd rice. Later sindoor is applied
on Shivling. Darshan of padukas can be done only during Abhishek. Afterwards Swami’s
metallic face is placed above padukas. Sri Guru Charitra parayan is done regularly.

One has to get down at Nivadduge village in Ahmednagar-pathardi road or get down at
Devaraya of Beed-pathardi-Nagar road and need to walk 3 km. Can reach through
Nagar-Chinchodi Patil-Suleman devala-Beed route also.

Jalandhar nath cave-42

This is the cave where swami did penance. One has to get down at Rayamoha village in Ahmad
nagar-pathadi-patoda-beed road. Temple of Jalandhar nath(Cave) is 5 km away from here.A
good road path is there to the hill from the temple.
Kanif nath samadhi-43
Samadhi of Shri Kanif nath is there in Madhi village, padaridi taluka, Ahmed nagar district of
Maharashtra. Madhi village is 3 km away from the outskirts of Nodugaon. Nodugaon is 40 km
far from Ahmed nagar enroute to padaridi.In this temple Swami’s meditation place and 22 feet
doorway is there. A cave with 50 feet depth and a Shiva linga at the bottom of the cave is also
there. Meditation can be done here. Samadhi of Shri Matseyndranath is 6 km away from this
temple. Swami entered sajiv samadhi on Panchami(Rang panchami) , phalguna month. He is
called as “ Shri chaitanya Kanif dev. Descendants of Shivaji maharaj constructed the existing
fort which has three doors.Very old Shiva linga installed by Shankar maharaj (Pune)is also
there. Many Buses ply from Ahmed nagar to Madhi. One has to walk a little from the Bus Stand.
One can visit Matsyendranath(Bhid district) which is near to this temple.

Sri Chaitnya Revan nath samadhi-44

Out of Navnaths, 6 belong to north India and 3 belong to south India.It is known that Revan nath
belong to Tamil Nadu. His sajiva samadhi is there in Vatapur village,Khanapur taluka, Sangli
district, Maharashtra. Devotees believe he is the incarnation of Lord Shiva.Here temple is very
old. Special puja will be performed on the first Monday of Shravan month,Thursday, Amavasya
and Shivaratri. 5 day festival will be celebrated during Amavasya of Magha month. Swami is in
Salagrama atma linga form. Blowing conches during the morning and evening is special. No
one eats non-veg in this village.

Paithan, Navanath caves-45

There are 9 very old caves at this place near Nagnath ghat. 9 Naths did penance in each of
these 9 caves. Dattatreya swamy did penance along with Matseyndranath in his cave. Caves of
Revan, Jalandhar, Gorakshanath, Adagav nath, Matseyndranath, Bhartari nath, Chaurangi nath,
Gahani nath and Nagnath are there at this ghat.
Sri Bhartiharinath samadhi-46
Swami’s samadhi is there in Chunargarh, Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh. During Vamana
avatar lord Vishnu approached Bali and requested 3 steps of land. Lord Vishnu put one step at
this place after Bali maharaj granted him 3 steps of land. That’s why this place is named “
Charanadri”. Shri Bharti harinath is elder brother of Raja Vikramaditya. From his childhood he
had a spiritual inclination. On the order of Gorakshanath he left home and did penance at this
place. At this place Ganga flows westwards at a height of 250 ft.The fort here has 4 entrances
and 1 tunnel. Aurangzeb thought of building a masjid by digging his sajiva samadhi. One radiant
horse came from his samadhi and attacked his soldiers. Irked by this incident, Aurangzeb made
a hole in the samadhi and poured 100 liters of hot oil. But that oil was merged into the Ganga
river and soldiers got burned. Then he realized that this is a very holy place. Hebuilt a temple
there and made an inscription in Arab language that he will never touch this temple again. Some
British soldiers who went into the fort’s tunnel never came back.

Vata siddha Naganath-47

Nanded-aundha road,Vataval, Chakur taluka, 28 km from solapur.Special pujas will be
performed every Amavasya. 10000 devotees visit on that day.

Gorakshanath-48
Gorakshanath was an 11th century saint and a great yogi who belongs to the Nath tradition.
When Shri Matsyendranath visited Chandragiri, Dayalu and Saraswati offered biksha and
prayed for offspring. Swami blessed them and gave holy ash from his bag. He came back after
12 years and asked them to show their Son. She told Swami that by listening to the neighbor's
words, she had thrown the holy ash in a heap of cow dung instead of consuming it. Swami
dug there and a 12 years old boy came out of it. He named him“ Gorakshanath” and took
the boy along with him. Swami taught him Dattatreya philosophy and gave him sanjeevani
mantra as spiritual practice.one day kids playing there made a small bullock cart and asked
Gorakshanath to make a mud toy of cart driver. As he made it while chanting Sanjeevani
mantra, the toy got life and transformed into a boy. All kids including Gorakshnath who is 12
years old ran away thinking that it was a ghost. Matsyendranath gave that boy to a childless
couple in that town and went to the Himalayas along with Gorakshanath instructing him to do
penance for 12 years. Gorakshanath had darshan of Datta padukas and Dattatreya swami on
Girnar mountain. Dattatreya swami who is primeval guru, digambara with holy ash smeared on
the body,matted hair gave darshan and imparted knowledge unto him at Girnar.

Kadaganchi-49
This is a very sacred place where the holiest Gurucharitra was composed. By the blessings of
Shri Guru, Sayamdeva Sakhare got saved from being killed by a wicked Muslim king who kills a
Brahmin every year. This holy place is 25 km away from Gulbarga( Kalaburagi) of
Karnataka.one can take an auto from bus station. One can do meditation in the underground
meditation hall. Bhakta nivas and food provision are there.

Amarapuram-50
Sri Nrisimha saraswati swami went to a poor Brahmin’s house in Amarapuram to accept
alms.He blessed the family members and uprooted a beans creeper while leaving their home.A
treasure was found when they tried to replant the creeper.One has to cross panchganga river
from Nrisimhawadi to reach Amarapuram which is on the other bank. This is the holy place
where Sri Dattatreya swami accepted alms in the form of Shri Nrisimha saraswati swami.
Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami’s mutt and Amareswara temple are there.

Srikshetra Devagad-51
Hearts of devotees will be filled with joy after visiting Sri kshetra devgad- pravara Datta kshetra.
In Sanskrit pravara means ultimate or excellent and the name perfectly suits this kshetra.
Devotees feel ultimate bliss by Serene environment and constant chanting of holy names of
Hari and Datta swami in this kshetra. As soon as one enters here, they will feel as if they were in
a foreign country. Garbage, dust and unnecessary honking will not be there. Let’s know how this
kshetra is formed. Avadhuta Sri kisan baba used to stay in sant dhyaneshwar (Jnaneshwar)
near “Nevasa” region. Later he came to the banks of river Pravara in devgad and used to
preach dhyaneshwari in Marathi written by sant Jnaneshwar to devotees. After a few years
Dattatreya swami in his physical form appeared before him and blessed babaji.
As a result a great temple got established here on the banks of pravara.Here Devotees wake up
early in the morning, takes bath in holy pravara and do parayana under Fig trees( Audumbar) in
Audumbar garden.Night shift security guard told that Datta swami roamed in this garden many
times in different forms. When Datta swami comes, bells tied to temple gopuram and walls
make sound on their own. Temple priests said incidents like this are very normal here. Some
times Datta swami along with Navnath visit this kshetra. As Datta swami visits this garden
frequently, it is called “Eden garden of Dattatreya”. Though this kshetra is very near to Shirdi,
only few devotees from Andhra and Telangana visit this kshetra.
How to reach devgad: By own transport. ( Shirdi to Devgad-70 km).

Shirol-52
One daySri Nrisimha saraswati swami came to a very poor person Gangadhara kulkarni’s house
from Nrisimha wadi for alms. There is no vessel in their house for offering food to swami.
Swami asked to clean a rock which was lying there and put food on it. They followed Swami's
instructions. With the blessings of swami,his hand’s imprint was formed on the rock.Datta
padukas will be there in all Datta temples whereas in this temple the right hand impression of
swami can be seen.This is a must visit place when one goes to Nrisimha wadi.

Datta bhiksha linga (Kolhapur)-54

Datta bhiksha linga temple in Ravivar Peth of Kolhapur is very ancient.Datta prabhu takes
bhiksha at 12pm from mother goddess in the form of Gorakshanath of Nath tradition.Harati will
be performed daily at 12pm.As per the instructions of Mother Maha Lakshmi Sri Narayana
swami (Almost all arati songs of Nrisimha wadi were composed by him only and his samadhi is
there in Nrisimha wadi) did penance in this temple and obtained darshan of Datta swami.
Sridhara swami also stayed here for some days.Sri guru,second Incarnation of Datta swami in
kaliyug receives bhiksha in Gangapur. Sri Adi shankaracharya and Samartha Ramadasa swami
had darshan of Datta swami in this temple only.

Bachani Datta paduka temple-55

Bachani(Kagal taluka) is located on the way to Garagoti village which is on the left side of
Visfuri. Visfuri is 25 km towards south of Kolhapur.
Other route: Kundurti, birth place of Shri Gulavani maharaj is 24 km east of Kagal. Bachani is 26
km east of Kundurti.
A girl named Muktabai was born to Shri Kapileshwar Kulkarni. An umbrella and paukas were
seen in the labor room along with the girl when she took birth. This little girl used to play with
that padukas only and remained in a highly renunciated state. There is no change in her
behavior even after her marriage. By seeing the advanced spiritual state and no attraction
towards material things, her in-laws left her to her own interest. Always she used to chant the
holy name of Sripada Srivallaba. Sripada SriVallabha swamy used to personally honor the
offering done by her. One day her parents saw a brilliant light eating prasadam in her room. She
installed Datta padukas and lit a nanda jyoti. She entered Samadhi being in a deep meditative
state on guru Dwadashi,the day Sripada Srivallabha swamy disappeared from gross sight. Her
padukas were installed behind Datta padukas. An audumbar plant germinated on the third day
from the spot where her umbrella and holy cloth were kept after her Samadhi. Like Gangapur,
Datta paduka temple is there on the banks of dudh ganga river in a serene environment.
Shri Ramachandra yogi,Shri Gopal swami, Shri Narayana swami, Sri Vasudevananda
saraswati Swami and Sri Gulavani maharaj visited this temple.
Like Nrisimhawadi this place is suitable for spiritual practices and penance.
Kshetra Kudutri-56
Birth place of Shri Gulavani maharaj. He lost his father in his childhood. His mother is a devotee
of Dattatreya swami. She used to do a lot of devotional service in Narsobawadi and
circumambulate Audumbar ( fig) over there. Datta swami dropped silver padukas in her lap in
the garb of an ascetic. Sri Gulavani maharaj is disciple of Sri Vasudevanand saraswati swami.
Now those prasada padukas are there in Sri Vasudeva nivas( Ashram of Sri Gulavani maharaj
in Pune).
Recitation of Sri Guru charitra, Laghu rudram and chanting of holy names of Datta swami is
done every day. Bhakta nivas and food court is available. One can do spiritual practice.

Pavani-57
Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami did 19 th chaturmasya in the year 1909 in Pavani. This
place is located on the bank of Wainganga river. Temples of Vithal, Rukmini, Kali and Mahadev
are located here. Dattatreya yantra and Datta padukas which were installed by Sri
vasudevananda saraswati swami are here. The Audumbar tree at the ghat where swami
bathed, the route in which swami went for alms, a low wooden seat on which swami sat inside
the temple, the spot where he gave mantra deeksha to Sri gulavani maharaj are there in this
place.

Paijarwadi-58
Chili maharaj’s Samadhi is at a distance of 32 km from Kolhapur on the way to Ratnagiri.
Meditation hall, Bhakta nivas and food court are also available there.
He was born on 15th August 1922 and lost his parents at an early age. He used to be in a highly
renunciated and childlike excited (Bala unmatta) state. He used to run very fast in his childhood
and reach far off places in minutes which amused many people. Many times he used to stay
without food for a minimum of 15 days. He likes to spend most of his time in temples. Later Shri
Garade Maharaj and Shri Shankar maharaj(Guru of Shri Kushabhavu maharaj, mentioned in
Shri Sai Leelamrutham) made him endeavor many spiritual practices as his Guru. He used to
consider Shri Shankar Maharaj as his elder brother. He used to attend immediately and help
people in pain and troubles. He has shown many miracles. He used to roam frequently in
Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, Pune and Nasik. He did severe spiritual practice (sadhana) in Datta
bikshuka temple in Kolhapur. Later he said “ Aham Brahmasmi ''. He showed Samadhi of one
great saint and said that it was his Samadhi in previous life. He said whoever does meditation
there will reach a higher state spiritually. Many devotees believe and worship him as Dattatreya
Avadhuta.

Kolhapur Eka Mukhi temple-59

This is a very ancient temple. Exact time of temple establishment is unknown. Shri Nrisimha
saraswati swami and shri Akkalkot maharaj visited this temple.
Here Datta murti resembles like deities in north India. Datta Murti is facing west, approximately
5 feet in height, 6 hands holding chanting beads, Damarukam, Trident, conch, disc and yoga
danda. Many great saints did penance here. This temple was renovated by Mauna swami of
Nrisimhawadi. Temples of Shri Vishnu,Rama,Vithal, Narasimha,Omkareshwar and Panchayatan
are there in this temple premises. 2000 year old peepal, fig, banyan and other trees formed into
a single stem. Branches of fig (Audumbar) tree are inclined towards Datta temple and branches
of banyan tree are towards Hanuman temple. Behind the Datta murti a broken rock edict is
there. During the renovation of this temple, a 700-year-old sacrificial kund was found. Sage
Durvasa did penance here to obtain blessings of Datta swami. Jai guru Datta.

Nrisimha wadi-60
Nrisimhawadi is the Datta capital city for devotees who have spiritual inclination and like to
pursue spiritual practice.
Nrisimha saraswati swami who is the second incarnation of Datta swami in kaliyug did his
Chaturmasya here and selected a suitable place under Audambar tree near the confluence of
river Krishna with another 5 rivers for doing penance. Here Swami made many great saints like
Sri Narayana swamy maharaj, Govind swamy, Mouna swamy,Sri Deekshit maharaj,Sri
Ramachandra yogi,Brahmananda swamy,Gopala swamy and is making many others as his
replicas. Daily 64 yoginis from the spiritual planet will be serving swami.
Here devotees aspiring for darshan of Datta swami in physical form do Shri gurucharitra
parayana sincerely, participate in bhajans and festivals of Nrisimha saraswati swami with
devotion. Bhajans sung in wadi are transliterated into Telugu and are printed as a book. With

Shri Vasudeva Nivas-61

This Ashram is established by Shri Gulwani maharaj who is the direct disciple of Shri
Vasudevananda saraswati swami. When Maharaj’s mother was circumambulating Audumbar
tree in Nrisimha wadi, Shri Datta swami in the garb of an ascetic gave her silver padukas.
Abhishek is being done for those prasad padukas in this ashram. After realizing Datta swami,
Shri Gulwani maharaj drew a portrait of Dattatreya swami. That portrait is also there in this
ashram.Maharaj has given Shri gurucharitra written by Shri Vasudevananda saraswati swami to
Bharadwaja master at this place only. Later Shri Bharadwaja master translated it into Telugu
which is being recited by lakhs of Telugu speaking people. Maharaj is close friend of Shri
Rangavadhuta of Nareshwar. By putting in a lot of effort maharaj has collected Datta
literature.Library was established. Vedic school is also there.Every day free lunch prasadam is
served at 12 clock. Darshan of padukas is there only from morning 9am to 12pm.

Dagulushet Datta temple-62

This temple is constructed as per the order of Shri Madhavanath maharaj (Mentioned
about him in Srisai Leelamrutham). Dasaganu maharaj along with Shri Madhavanath maharaj
celebrated festivals and chanted holy names in this temple. A person named Dagulushet whose
children died met Shri Madhavanath maharaj in Indore. Maharaj asked him to construct
ganesha and Datta temples. Datta murti was established on guru purnima in the year 1890.
Daily veda recitation and yajna will be done. Datta jayanti and other festivals are being
celebrated.

Gurudeva Datta temple-63

A gardener was appointed to take care of a garden in Bhandarkar road of Pune. One day when
he dug at the base of a plant,ancient Datta padukas were found.
Those padukas were installed at the same place where they were found and a Datta murti was
placed behind them in the year 1900. This temple is very conducive for doing meditation and
spiritual practice. Here Dattatreya swami is very beautiful.

Narayanpur-64
This ancient eka mukhi (one faced) Datta temple which is slightly similar to Ganagapur temple is
located 35 km from Pune.Datta murti has 6 hands. Shri Changdev who was mentioned in the
biography of Jnaneshwar maharaj took birth here and did penance at this place. Here
Audumbar ( fig tree) is very ancient. There is a specific place to recite Sri guru charitra and
padukas are also there. Here Chanting of “ Atri Anasuya suta '', “ Digambara Digambara
Sripada Sri Vallabha Digambara” and Thursday full moon day Datta spiritual practice is being
done by the devotees. Sadguru Narayana maharaj (Anna) gave many discourses. Datta dhams
are being established by him on the 4 sides of the country. As a part of that a big temple of
Datta swami is constructed In Kolkata.

Sri pada Sri Nrisimha saraswati-65

Sri Mungale Maharaj who is a disciple of sri krishna saraswati swami who in turn is a disciple of
swami samartha built the dhyana mandir and Datta temple. Sri mungale maharaj belongs to
kolhapur. Idols of sri pada,sri guru and Dattatreya are there in this temple. Portraits of swami
samarth,shri krishna saraswati,sri vasudevananda saraswati and sri mungale are there in
dhyana mandir. Gurupurnima and Datta jayanti are celebrated.

Narayana khedgaon bet-66

Narayana khedgaon bet is the place where incarnation of Datta swami, NarayanaMaharaj did
penance. He was born on 20 th May 1885 in Bagalkot of Karnataka. He used to do meditation
for 4 hours under the kitchen of this Ashram. Daily he used to do Annadan for 10000 people. He
was considered as Rishyasringa of kaliyug as it rains wherever he stays. It used to rain as soon
as he stepped in any drought hit villages. He lived for 60 years. He entered samadhi on 3 rd
September 1945 in Bangalore.
Route: This station comes just before Pune in a train which goes to Mumbai from Hyderabad.

Ancient Rasne Datta temple-67

This is a very ancient temple. It is also called as Nrisimha saraswati Datta temple. Datta murti
has 3 faces.Some Datta devotees call this as shakti peeth.
Many devotees believe that Datta swami is very responsive in this temple. A great devotee
named Balwant Rao used to visit Gangapur often. Datta swami gave darshan to a saint named
Chintamani and asked to dig at one place under a fig( Audumbar) tree.He found padukas and
installed them. A Peshwa king developed the temple. This temple is a famous tourist place for
foreigners as one German lady specifically mentioned about the spiritual experience she got at
this temple in a book authored by her about great saints of Datta tradition.

Bapakar-68
A very ancient temple of Mallikarjuna swami was there in the forest. Village deity of that village
is 10 handed Dattatreya swami. Premises of that ancient temple used to be occupied by
poisonous insects and Venomous snakes. Shri Dattananda saraswati swami came to this place
and established 10 handed Datta swami and padukas In the year 1730. As swami established
mutt there, villagers used to come there to have his darshan. Now this ancient temple is under
control of the archaeological department.
Route map: This temple is 28 km from Pune. Special puja will be performed every Thursday.
Temples of Vishnu seated on Varaha, Kalabhairava and Shiva are there near by.

Sakori-69
Sri Upasani Maharaj installed one faced Datta murti in this temple.
Sri Upasani Maharaj was born in Satna village of Nasik district. He realized God in his
childhood. Later he became a disciple of Sainath. This temple was built by the royal family of
Gwalior. Temple is open for 24 hours. Palanquin festival is being celebrated every Thursday.
Yagna (sacrificial ritual) kund is there. Daily 3 times Arati, bhajans and satsang are being done.
When the sun is in Simha and Kanya rasi, sun rays fall on the forehead of Datta murti. At that
time swami looked brilliant. One big Dattatreya yantra is also there. Here puja,recitation of
vedas and worship will be done by women only. Samadhi of Babu sahib jog is also there near to
this temple.

Atma teertha Panchaleshwar-70

Panchaleshwar is located on the southern bank of river Godavari, Golai taluka, bheed district,
Maharashtra. Dattatreya swami accepts bhiksha in Kolhapur and honors it at this place only. An
amazing Datta temple is located here. A sage named Kusumawati was there in treta yuga and
he had a son, sage Atma. Upon being pleased by his penance, Dattatreya swami appeared and
blessed him. With that power he killed two demons Kumbha and Nikumbha. As feeding yogis
relieves oneself from sinful reactions he prayed Datta swami to accept bhiksha here and swami
accepted his request happily. From then Datta swami honors bhiksha (which he accepted in
Kolhapur) here only.

Satna-71
Birthplace of Upasani maharaj. Ashrams of maharaj are there in Satna,Surat,Nagpur,Sakori and
Dharampur. Like Sakori temple, this temple also will not be closed.He installed 12 jyotirlingas in
this house.He himself installed Datta murti. Temples of koti lingeshwara,sri Hanuman and Sri
Dattatreya are there in the ashram.Here Datta murti is amazing with 3 faces. Ashram is located
on the banks of river Arama. The samadhi of his grandfather is there. Daily arati for 3 times,
worship and Archana are being performed. Datta Jayanti is being celebrated every year.Ashram
has a very serene atmosphere and quartz shivling is there in the basement.

 Sri Ramakrishna kshira sagar swami-72
He was born on 16th February,1934 in Maharashtra. He realized Datta swami in his 7th year
and understood the final purpose of human birth. As per Datta swami’s instructions, he visited
Gangapur. Sri Nrisimha Saraswati swami appeared before him and taught many spiritual
practices. After 25 years of spiritual practice as per Datta swami’s instructions he established a
trust “Datta darshan” in 1974 to protect Vedic literature. Only by accepting alms he established
Vedanta vidya Peeth consisting of Gurukul,gaushala and Datta temple. In the temple Fig,
peepal and banyan trees originated from a single root, it is called kalpa vriksha(Desire fulfilling
tree). Efforts are being rendered to preserve all vedas here in book form.Datta and Shankara
jayanti are being celebrated in a grand way. It is the biggest golden Datta temple in the world.
Shri Sringeri bharathi theertha swami installed Datta murti here. Sri Ramakrishna ksheer sagar
swami entered samadhi on September 8th 1999.

Shri kshetra Kolambi-73

Shri Datta Brahma yantra temple. Here Datta swami with mother Anasuya is prominent. Idols of
mother Anasuya and Datta swami are there in an old mutt which is located In the eastern
direction of kolambi village. This type of yantra is there in Nepal, Kashi and Sringeri. A great
yogi named “Shiva bakshi” found Brahma yantra by utilizing all his yoga vidya and installed it at
this place. Starting from the full moon day of Karthika month, a grand festival happens for 5
days. Atripuja on the first day, Maha puja on the second day, palanquin service on third day,
panchamrit ( 5 types of liquids) abhishek on 4 th day and decoration with rice on 5 th day will be
performed every year by the main priest practicing celibacy for these 5 days. Chanting of “ Deva
Datta, Guru Datta” is being done continuously. This temple comes in Marathwada region.

Sri Datta Sulibhanjan-74

Sulibhanjan is the place where Sri Janardhana swami and Ekanath maharaj had darshan of Sri
Dattatreya in his physical form. It is located at a distance of 30km from Aurangabad and to the
north of Daulatabad devgiri fort. There are two hills named Surya kund and Chandra kund at a
distance of 5 Km from Sulibhanjan.Both the hills are Datta dhams and their importance is
mentioned in Padma purana, Kashi khand, Sri Datta prabodha and Navnath Charitra. Devgiri
Surya kund is a prime holy place and very much dear to Datta swami. Janardhan maharaj ruled
this place. He is a great devotee of Dattatreya. His samadhi is there in Devgiri fort. Saint Eknath
is his disciple. Datta swami gave darshan to Eknath maharaj on one Thursday. He did penance
sitting on a rock as per his guru’s(Janardhan maharaj) order. A joyful sound emanates from the
rock on hitting it which cannot be observed with the surrounding rocks.

Sadalaga Kshetra-75
Shankarpur is the birth place of Sri Dikshit swami who is the dear most disciple of Sri
vasudevanand saraswati swami. Sri Dikshit swami’s father and his ancestors are devotees of
Sri Nrisimhawadi Datta. They used to render service in Nrisimhawadi frequently. His father was
sorrowful as he was unable to visit wadi regularly like earlier because of his old age. One day
Dattatreya swami appeared and told him
1. Not to visit wadi regularly.
2. That he was going to take birth in his dynasty and gave him three small stones
3. To worship those stones as Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva forms.
He installed them in Shankarpur and offered worship as per the instructions of Datta swami.
Later Shri Dikshit Maharaj took birth in their home.

Gorakshanath Mandir-76
The temple of Gorakshanath (one of the Navanaths) is situated in the village Dhameri.This is a
strange story. Gorakshanath came to this place while circumambulating the river Godavari. He
was thirsty and hungry. Peasant Manik’s son gave him food and water. Swami was satisfied
with his service and told him to ask for a boon.Then the peasant Manik came and said to swami
“ You don’t even have food to eat. What boons can you offer?”. He wishes that whatever he
desires should not happen. Swami granted his wish and went away. In the evening, Manik
thought of going home and having dinner. But he was unable to move and stood there for 3
years. He was able to drink only water.Later Matsyendranath,Gorakshanath,chauranginath saw
Manik and blessed him with knowledge. His name was changed to “Adhbangha nath” and a
temple was established in his field on the banks of river Godavari.

Ruibhar Datta temple-77
This temple is located at a distance of 8km from Osmanabad. Temple is built with red stone and
looks like a Rajasthani temple.Bhajans, meditation,recitation of stotras,slokas and japa are
being done by devotees continuously. Sabha mandapa for spiritual discourses is also under
construction. Bhakta nivas and prasadam are available. Dattatreya murti in the temple is very
attractive.

Osmanabad-ujani bus.
Khamgaon Datta temple-78
Dattatreya murti and nirguna padukas given by Sri vasudevananda saraswati swami are there in
this ashram. Shri Sant pachalegaonkar maharaj used to visit Gangapur frequently. One day
after darshan of padukas, swami sat under an audumbar tree doing his daily ritual. Sripada Sri
vallabha swami appeared before him and gave nirguna padukas. He told him to learn the puja
process from Sri vasudevananda saraswati who was there in gangapur at that time. Sri
vasudevananda saraswati swami taught him the puja process and gave sphatika(quartz crystal)
Datta murti. Then maharaj came to his village Khamgaon, established mukteshwar ashram and
installed Datta murti on the 12th day of Margasira month. Vimochana yantra is also
there.Special pujas will be organized every Thursday, Saturday and Monday.

Great personalities lik Sri Gorakshanath, Shri swami samartha,Shri shankara maharaj and Shri
Naroba visited this kshetra. This kshetra, Mokshadham ashram is established by baba maharaj
Joshi who is disciple of Shri swami samartha and Shri Shankar maharaj. Swami samartha made
Shri
Shankar maharaj to undergo many spiritual practices and instructed him to go to Himalayas for
penance. Bhima river does circumambulation for the town like a crescent moon.
Ancient Mallikarjun temple and a fort are there in this town. This is a holy place where many
great saints did penance. It is suitable for doing penance,meditation, parayana and spiritual
practices.

Kshetra Gunj-80
Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami just before entering samadhi gave sanyas diksha and
dand to his prime disciple Sri Yogananda Saraswati and ordered him to establish this Datta
kshetra. Samadhi of two great saints Shri Yoganand Saraswati and Shri chintamani maharaj are
there in this kshetra.Upon receiving instructions from his spiritual master, he came to
siddeshwara temple and established a siddha bhumi by doing penance for 7 years. Sri
gurucharitra was represented in pictorial form. Swami entered samadhi on 12 th day of
phalguna month. His biography was discussed in “Mahatmula parichayam” book. Continuous
chanting of “ Digambara Digambara Sripada vallabha Digambara” is being done in this kshetra.

This is the place where Shri gajanan maharaj attained spiritual perfection. Biography of Maharaj

This is the richest trust in marath wada. Temple is amazing. When swami first appeared on
23rd February 1878( Krishna saptami) he was 20 years old. He entered samadhi on 8th
September 1910( Rishi panchami). Festivals will be celebrated on both appearance and
disappearance days.
Bhakta nivas is there. Breakfast is free. For every half an hour free bus facility is there from
the railway station. Rooms are inexpensive.

 Narsi-82
This is the place where Sri Vasudevanand Saraswati swami did his 15th Chaturmasya.
Birthplace of Karuna tripadi. When the priest of Nrisimhawadi was bringing Datta swami to the
river, Murti fell down. Priests got scared and came to Narsi in search of Sri Vasudevanand
saraswati swami. When Sri Vasudevanand saraswati swami asked Datta swami, he replied that
unhygienic things are being placed on padukas and he is unable to bear the bad smell
emanating from such things. Then Sri Vasudevanand saraswati swami appeased Datta swami
and wrote karuna tripadi for priests to recite daily. Later he composed Datta champu at this
place only. He started chaturmasya at this place on Ashada shuddha pournami in the year 1827.
Many miracles happened here. Here Datta swami is very responsive. Vasudeva prarthitha
Datta.This is the holy place where Namdev maharaj was born.Temple and Datta padukas are

Datta murti in this temple is installed by Sri madananda saraswati swami.

Mahurgad-84
Temples of Dattatreya and Atri Dattatreya are there in Mahurgad. It is also called Matapur.
Penganga flows around 3 sides.Many people obtained darshan of Datta swami here. Some say
Datta swami was born here. This belongs to the Sahyadri mountain range. Jagruta dhuni is
there on Datta hill. One has to climb 175 steps. Anasuya ghat is also there. Temples of
Ekaveera devi,Mother Renuka, Atri-Anasuya, Datta ghat,Deva deveshwara and Mathru
teertham are there. Mahanubhav panth devdeveshwar temple is the resting place of Datta
swami at night. Temple is less than 2 km from the bus stand.

Akkalkot swami Samartha-85

Shri Swami Samartha guided many devotees in their spiritual efforts and made them as his
replicas.If biography of any great saints is observed, blessings of swami samartha will be
there.swami gave assurance that who ever chants my name and surrender to me I will take care
of them. Raje Raya mutt, Cholappa mutt,Balappa mutt,Shiv puri and banyan tree temple
Maharaj are there. Swami himself confirmed that he will stay only in Banyan tree Maharaj. Many
mutts were established by his order. Bhakta nivas is there. Food is available.

Chembur swami Samartha mutt-86

Swami Suta achieved the highest spiritual state just by the blessings of Swami Samartha.His
real name was Haribhavu. He established this mutt by Swami Samartha’s order. He was born to
Dajibhave and Anasuya.He never knew fear. Swami Samartha blessed him and asked what is
the use of house,family and job? You are my son. He gave him silver padukas, a saffron flag
and asked him to establish a mutt in Mumbai. He got spiritually enlightened and reached
Mumbai carrying Veena, lute and cymbals wearing saffron clothes.He established mutt at
kamathipura and spiritually uplifted many people.He composed many songs on Swami
Samartha and sometimes used to lose consciousness in spiritual ecstasy while singing
them.Many times Swami Samartha used to give darshan to devotees in this mutt. Chanting of
holy names of Swami Samartha happens daily. Swami gave his atma padukas to him. One day
when he visited Swami, swami told him “ Son, I am going to travel northwards. You stay here
and look after this place”. Swami Suta understood that Swami Samartha is about to end his
incarnation and he entered samadhi in Mumbai on Sravana bahula padyami before Swami
Samartha’s disappearance. Swami Samartha used to compare him with Hanuman.

Karanja-87
This is the birthplace of Shri guru(1378-145), 2nd Incarnation of Dattatreya in kaliyug.He was
born to Madhava Sharma and Amba.He uttered omkar as soon as he took birth. His real name
was Salagrama deva. Later he went to Kashi after taking Sanyas at the age of 9.
Shri Vasudevanand saraswati swami and Shri Brahmananda saraswati (Telugu) identified the
birthspot of Shri guru and installed Datta murti and padukas. They Established worship process
similar to Ganagapur. All festivals are being celebrated.

Karanji-88
Datta murti sitting in padmasana is a specialty here. Swami’s one foot is visible. Gangadevi
herself has given this murti.
The Ashram of mother Anasuya’s father is there. Dattatreya swami was born in the afternoon of
full moon day of Margasira month in Treta Yuga to Atri and Anasuya. Sons of Brahma are
Sages Brighu,Angirasa, Atri and Vaikhanasa. Out of them Atri and Angirasa are among Seven
sages. Mother Anasuya is daughter of Kardamuni (Son of Mahalakshmi)and Devahuti.
Dattatreya swami was born to this divine couple Atri and Anasuya. This Ashram is there in the
delightful environment of Dandakaranya. Ashrams of sages Markandeya, Kanwa and Chehi are
nearby. Sage Kapila did penance here. One more amazing thing is that for every day afternoon

 Chikodi Datta temple-89
A devotee of Datta swami named Raghunath Narasimha of Pune used to work in the judicial
department in Chikodi. He used to visit Nrusinhawadi on every full moon day by riding a horse
to do spiritual practice. On one full moon day river dudh ganga was flooded near Danawada
village. He sat on the banks of the river with grief and sorrow as he was unable to reach
Nrisimhawadi. Datta swami appeared and told him that he was there near the fig tree in his
village itself and asked him not to come to Nrisimhawadi. Then he went to Chikodi and
constructed a temple for Datta padukas which were very ancient in the year 1777. Even now
Rudrabhishek and puja will be performed daily. Shridhara swamy, Shri Vasudevananda
Saraswati Swami, Kanchi Shankaracharya Shri Chandrashekara Saraswati swami and many
great saints visited this temple.

Gangapur-90
Shri guru after staying for 12 years in Nrisimha wadi, came to Gangapur at the age of 47 and
stayed here for 23 years until his disappearance in Kardalivan of Srisailam. Here sangam sthan
( confluence of rivers) ,Sangameshwara mandir, Audambar tree, Vishranti kata, Nrisimha teerth,
Bhagirathi teerth, Papanasa teerth, Koti teerth, Ghatkar teerth, Rudrapada teerth, Chakreshwar
teerth and Manmatha teerth are there. Everyday evening the palanquin festival is being
celebrated. Everyday afternoon Datta swami accepts alms (biksha) in Gangapur in the form of
Shri guru.

Sripada Sri vallabha swami came to Kuruvapuram when he was 16 years old. He stayed here
for 14 years until he attained the age of 30. He disappeared from the material world by entering
into the Krishna river in Ashwayuja month Krishna dwadashi,Hasta nakshatra. This place is an
island in Krishna river. There is a temple where swami used to sit in siddhasana. One can have
darshan of
1.Sri pada Sri vallabha swami’s Murti made of white marble which was installed under an old
banyan tree.
2. A cave where Sri vasudevananda saraswati swami did penance and a shiva linga inside the
cave.
Sripada Sri vallabha swami used to conduct darbar in Rukmini, Panduranga temple on the bank
of Krishna river.

Belgaum Datta temple-93

In the year 1825 Shri Swami Samartha gave his padukas, blue sapphire ring which he was
wearing on his finger, Murti of five faced Ganesha to his devotee Shri Rangayya naidu. He
served swami until 1895. Later his great granddaughter Srimati Narsulakshmi safely preserved
them. Shri Kiran swami naidu, Fourth generation of Srimati Narsulakshmi disclosed them to
public in the year 2004 as instructed by Swami Samartha.
Datta temple is amazing.

Events mentioned in the 50 th chapter of Shri Guru charitra happened at this place. When
Muslim king requested Shri guru to come to his kingdom, Swami asked him to come to this
place.In the previous life this Muslim king was a washerman who got benediction from Shripada
Shrivallabha to be born as a king(9th chapter). Shri guru came to papanasanam which is 5 km
from Bidar and did daily rituals, chanting and penance in the nearby cave. This cave is in the
premises of mother Bhavani temple. Mother Santoshi also appeared in this cave. The ashram
of Datta Siddha saint Shri Moneshwar swami is also there.

Sri Chidambar Dikshit maharaj is a contemporary of Swami Samartha.

When mother Yashoda lamented for not giving birth to Lord Sri Krishna,he told he will fulfill her
desire in kaliyug. She took birth as Sri Lakshmi bai.
As a result of sincere practice of Sri Vidya by Sri Martand and Sri Lakshmi bai, Parameshwara
took birth as their son in the form of Purnananda nath in Kengeri Murgod village. He learnt
Vedas at the age of 7 from his father and clarified religious doubts of his father. As mentioned in
the 39 th chapter of Shri gurucharitra, a girl was born to Somnath and Ganga with the blessings
of Shri guru.That girl got married to a Dikshit who performed great yagas. Shri Purnananda is
their successor.
Swami Samartha said that he only served ghee for the yagas performed by Dikshit
maharaj.He sent his disciple Balappa to stay with Maharaj for 3 days and told that Parameshwar
only appeared in the form of maharaj. Shri Nrisimha saraswati (Alandi, disciple of swami
Samartha) also used his yogic energy to create food items for yagna. When Maharaj was doing
yagna, food prepared for 10 people was used to feed lakhs of people by his yogic power. One
person died by falling in a hot food vessel while performing yagna. When this was informed to
maharaj, he called by his name “Yagna Datta” and said to him to distribute betel leaves to all
and that person came back to life.Maharaj himself taught Sri Vidya upasana to few people. He
used to be in many physical bodies at the same time. He entered samadhi at the age of 57 in

Datta kshetra Balekundri-96

Shri Balekundri pant Maharaj- He was born to Shri Ramachandra and Srimati Sitabai on
3-9-1855 (Gokulashtami). His mother named him as Dattatreya. In his childhood he
lived in abject poverty. At the age of 20, he met a great saint Balaji Anant
paramahamsa(Balappa). Shri Balaji paramahamsa realized that pant maharaj takes
Datta tradition to higher levels and accepted him as his disciple. Shri pant maharaj
composed many bhajans and poems on Datta swami in the year 1883. From 1883 to
1885 he toured all over the country singing bhajans and propagated Datta tradition
extensively transforming thousands as Datta devotees.He used to perceive whole world
also as one of the forms of god. “ Datta prema lahari” composed by him is amazing. He
always used be in a blissful state. He used to celebrate Datta jayanti, Guru Dwadashi
and Guru pratipada. His main preachings are 1. Never deviate from your path of
devotion. 2. Always focus your mind and heart on good association.3. Your own
experience is the first step of spiritual realization. 4. Never criticize other’s devotion
5.Never distract your sight from the lotus feet of supreme lord. Always god will observe
and take care of you. In the year 1891 he wrote “Gitasar”which is a commentary on
Bhagavad gita. He is a great soul who attracted thousands towards Datta tradition. He
entered Samadhi on 16-10-1905 by chanting “ Om Namah Shivaya” 3 times.

Bhakta karya kalpa druma guru sarva bhauma, sri madrajadhi raja yogi maharaja,

sthapita sadguru Manikya prabhu maharaj ki jai.
Samadhi of third sampurna Datta avatar, Sri Manikya prabhu is here at this place. Swami
was born to Sri Manohar naik and Baya Devi on Datta jayanti in the year 1817. He entered jiva
samadhi in the year 1865. His biography is very much known to everyone.

Gokarna-98
About Shivling, Murti of mother Anasuya installed by Sripada Srivallabha swami
and Datta pond created by his will:
The routine of Sripada Srivallabha swami when he stayed in Gokarna is as follows :
1.He used to wake up early in the morning and do abhishek with the water of Datta pond for the
murti of Mother Anasuya installed by him.
2. He used to perform abhishek for Shivling installed by him and worship it with Bilva leaves.
From there, by wearing wooden sandals he goes to UmaMaheshwara temple in Shatasringa hill
range and worship them with the water of Uma Maheswar kund and do meditation for a few
minutes.
On his way back, he used to bless many devotees. Upon returning he used to preach Datta
philosophy to sages, devathas, disciples and his most dear devotees. Later he used to arrange
food for all of them. In the evening he used to worship Shivling installed by him and reach the
Sea to perform the evening Sandhya vandan. He stayed in Gokarna like this for 3 years and
sowed a seed for Datta tradition. His daily routine was inscribed on a flat stone in his hermit.
Presently that stone is kept in the Archeological department in Mysore which can be seen with
special permission from departmental authorities.
Shivling installed by Datta swami is under the control of private persons. Now it is called as
“Shrishadakshare Eshwara temple”. It is near Kavale mutt. One can have darshan of shiv ling
with the permission of those private individuals. They may not allow all the devotees inside and
there is no possibility to touch Shivling. They speak only Kannada and generally devotees are
not allowed to take photos. Many people do not know that Shripada Shri Vallabha swami
installed a Shivling in Gokarna including priests of Mahabaleshwar temple. Very few local senior
citizens and old Datta devotees know about this place. Similarly Murti of mother Anasuya and
Datta pond are in control of a private individual named Shri M.V.Bhatt who is a senior citizen.
One can have darshan of them only with blessings of Sripada Sri Vallabha swami and by
requesting Shri M.V.Bhatt. Now Datta pond is transformed into a well. He only draws water from
that well with the help of a rope and distributes it to the devotees.

Lada chincholi-99
Lada chincholi(Birth place of Sridhara swamy), Varadha halli(place of samadhi), 8km from
Sagar.
Sridhara Swamy wrote “Sri Dattatreya ashtakam” and “Disciples of Shri Datta”. He propagated
Shri Datta and samartha traditions extensively.
He wrote many stotras on Dattatreya swami. Shri Dattatreya swami appeared in the dream of
swami’s parents and told them that he would be born to them. After this incident, Shridhara
swamy was born on 7th December 1908. He came to Varadapur from Sajjangad in the year
1954 and entered samadhi on 19 th April 1973. Sringeri swami, Satya sai, Gulavani maharaj,
Chinmayananda and Swami Svarupananda told that he is the incarnation of Dattatreya swami.
Mangaon-100
The birth place of Sri vasudevananda saraswati swami.
Sri vasudevananda saraswati swami built Datta temple as per Sri Nrisimha saraswati swami’s
command.
Swami was born to Ramabai and Ganesh Bhat. He constructed a temple and installed Datta
deity. He used to do annadan( food donation) every Saturday. He celebrated guru dwadashi,
Datta jayanti and performed palanquin service in this temple. Datta swami used to respond very
often. One day Datta swami rejected the offering of coconut pieces due to the presence of a
coconut shell. After careful observation of the offering, a small piece of coconut shell is found. A
self manifested peepal tree is there in the temple. Tembe swami worshipped the padukas
present here. Yakshini temple is located opposite to this temple. A cave in which Sri
vasudevananda saraswati swami did penance and a small pond beside it are there nearby.
Cave is a 10 minute walk behind the temple. Steps are there. Swami used to do penance in that
cave after taking bath in the nearby pond. Here Datta devotees can do sadhana. Daily kakad
Aarti, worship, offering, dhoop Aarti, palanquin service, night Aarti,guru dwadashi and Datta
jayanti are being organized. Swami stayed here upto 1889.
Vengurla(Konkan)-101
Vengurla is 25km away from Mangaon. Sri chidananda swami’s samadhi is located nearby.
Sajeev samadhi of Anandnath maharaj is there at this place. He is a disciple of swami
samartha. Sai devotees Shyama and Nanduram marwadi used to visit him regularly. During one
of their visits,swami behaved like a child and urged them to take him to darshan of Sai even at
the age of 95. He sat in front of Sai in Dwarkamai but both did not speak to each other. On his
return, he told the devotees around him that a heap of cow dung like Shirdi got Sai who is like
Kohinoor diamond. When he went to Mumbai in his childhood, he heard the voice of swami
samartha asking him to come to Akkalkot.when he went to Akkalkot and washed his feet in a
pond, a tree branch fell on his head. When he looked upwards, he saw swami samartha.He
stayed with swami samartha for 6 years. He used to write many stotras, bhajans, bhopali, slokas
and sing in front of swami samartha.He was having Vak-shuddhi. When he was leaving Akkalkot
as per swami samartha’s order, swami gave him atma linga padukas. He established a mutt at
Vengurla and installed padukas as per swami samartha’s order. Swami entered sajeev samadhi
in 1904 at Vengurla. He was well known as Anand bhuva. He used to feed a lot of people daily.
Darshan of padukas is available only on Thursdays between 8.30 am to 11.30 am. The Ashram
is serene and devotees recite vajra kavacha daily. One can get directions to “swami samarth
mutt” by asking local people.

 Garudeshwar-102
This is the place where Sri vasudevananda saraswati swami entered samadhi after touring all
over the country. He wrote Datta mahatyam, Dwisahasri, Datta puran and composed many
Datta stotrams at this place. One can have darshan of two Datta murtis which are worshiped
throughout his life by Sri Vasudevananda saraswati swami at this holy place. Narmada river
flows northwards here which is considered very auspicious. Devotees who can’t do full
Narmada parikrama, start Narmada circumvention from here, reach the other bank of
Garudeshwar in 15 days and cross the river by boat to reach Garudeshwar. Swami sat facing
Dattatreya swami,chanted Omkara once deeply on Ashada suddha padyami, Ardra nakshtra
around 11pm in the year 1914 and entered samadhi. According to Datta tradition jal samadhi
was done by his disciples and devotees.The place where swami sat is considered as samadhi
mandir. Here Datta Swamy is very merciful and wishes of many people are getting fulfilled.

Nareshwar-103
Nareshwar is famous as “ Gangapur of Gujarat”.
Sri Ranga Avadhuta is a disciple of Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami. He authored the
biography of Sri Vasudevanda Saraswati swami, Dattabavani and many books. He propaged
Datta sampradaya extensively in Gujarat. In his childhood he met Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati
swami in Nrisimha wadi. Swamy asked him “ Whom do you belong?”. He replied “ I belong to
you”. With the recitation of Sri guru charitra just for one time he got the capacity to compose
poems in Sanskrit. He completed the circumvention of Narmada by the order of Sri Dattatreya
swami by chanting “ Avadhuta chintana Sri guru deva Datta” in just 108 days. After his mother’s
samadhi,he moved to Haridwar. He entered Samadhi in 1968 at Haridwar. Swami came here in
1925 and sat under a neem tree in the forest on the bank of river Narmada.He used to take
bath in Narmada early morning, read holy scriptures, do puja and did penance in his hermit.
Leaves of that neem tree are sweet in taste. One more specialty at this place is sugar candy
equal to the person’s weight is weighed in balance called Datta tula bharam and distributed as
prasadam for devotees. Swami composed “Datta bavani” which is Sri guru charitra in 52
sentences.

This is a very ancient kshetra. Sage Gautama repented after cursing Ahalya. He came here and
did penance. Shri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami completed Narmada parikrama and did his
8th Chaturmasya here as per Datta swami’s order.He himself installed Datta murti under an
Audumbar tree. Shri Samartha Ramadasa swami did penance and installed Hanuman murti
here. A saint lived here for 60 years and his jeeva samadhi is also there. Some things used by
Shri Vasudevananda Saraswati, like his hand fan, is here. Some handwritten stotras on copper
plates composed by Shri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami are also there in his ashram.

Paschima pir Jackal Datta kshetra-105

(Kala Dungar Datta kshetra)
Dattatreya is a yogi. He responds whenever anyone thinks of him. He has no properties, likes
silence and a personality mixed with variegatedness. But in one thing he is so simple. He will be
very pleased by the donation of food to the hungry. That is why food donation attained utmost
importance than anything in Datta tradition. The story behind this kshetra is related to food
donation and its importance. When Datta swami heard the hunger cries and painful prayers of
voiceless creatures( jackals), he started throwing his bodily parts as food to them. This kshetra
holds many miracles which were disclosed after a detailed research. They are as follows:
1: Dattareya swami threw his body parts as food to Jackals named `` Lo Ang- Le Ang ''. For
the last 500 years jackals have been coming to this temple and eating Datta prasad ( Khichdi) at
12 pm and 6.30 pm daily. This is the most miraculous thing which happens here daily.
2. This is the only Sun god-Datta kshetra in the whole world. To represent this thing
symbolically a picture of sun god behind Datta swami is kept in the temple.
3. Every day after sunrise, the abhishek of Dattatreya happens with sun rays. It is a must see
scene.
4. Grand puja, Archana and breaking of coconut does not take place here. Continuous
Chanting of Hari Om Tat sat Jai guru Datta happens here.
5. To facilitate the abhishek of Datta swami with sun rays, a special vimana ornate
monumental tower is there which cannot be found anywhere else.
6. A way through the cave is there from here( Kala Dungar) to reach the 9000th step of
Girnar mountain.
7. Fire altar initiated by Datta swami is still here and footprints of Datta padukas are being
formed in ash from the fire altar.
8. This is the only Datta kshetra( Le Ang-Lo Ang)located at a place where earth was
inclined at 23.5 degrees.
9. This is the only Datta kshetra on Tropic of Cancer.
10. Every day at sunset during Datta arati, a sphere of light ( Siddha sphere) circles around
the Sun and next around the mountain. After some time it will disappear.

Girnar guru shikhar(Revatachal)-106

Devotees can have darshan of Shri Datta padukas, worship place of Shri Nath tradition,
Temple of Bhagavan Naiminath, Kamandal kund, Ambamata place and Dattatreya cave.
 These hills in Junagarh of Saurashtra are older than Himalayas and were formed 60000
million years ago. Here only Datta swami did penance for 10000 years. Mainly 5 important
mountains are there. They are 1. Amba devi 2. Fire altar (Akhand dhuni) of Shri guru
Gorakshanath 3.Bahudha 4. Dattatreya guru mountain , Here Datta swami assumed the
form of all 32 crore devathas and is existing in Shiva form.
Adi Dattatreya temple (on the top of the mountain. It can be reached after climbing 9999
steps).
Worshippers doing sincere spiritual practice of Datta, Shri Nath tradition, mother Kali and
Digambara Shiva yogis can be seen visiting this place. One has to climb 9999 steps to
reach Datta padukas in guru dattatreya temple which is on the apex of the mountain. Guru
dattatreya mountain is also called as “Avalokana mountain”.
The right time to climb Girnar is morning 5.30 am. It takes approximately 11 to 12 hours to
climb, to visit all the important places and to get down. So without any trouble one can reach
the base of the hill by evening 5.30 pm. For devotees who cannot climb steps can hire a doli
at doli station at the starting of steps(after crossing Chadavov hanuman temple). Based on
the person’s weight they will ask Rs 5000 to Rs 12000 for taking up and bringing down the
hill. It takes a minimum of 2 days to visit all the places in and around Girnar.
Datta cave is near 3700 th step. A big conch used by Datta swami and his padukas are there
in this cave. Here only Datta swami gave darshan in physical form to Shri Vasudevananda
saraswati swami, Niranjan, Narayana maharaj and to many other great yogis.
Gorakshanath temple is near 5280 th step. Everexistent fire altar is also there. Navnath did
penance here for 11000 years.
Errayyanath is there near 8008 th step. Kamandala kund which is formed after Datta
swami has thrown his kamandal is also there. Fire altar ( Dhuni) lit by Datta swami 12000
years ago is also there. This can be seen every Monday morning from 6.00 am to 6.30 am.
Murti of Adinath is there. Now the ropeway is there upto 7000 th step.

“Kashi snana japa pratidivasi”- As part of Datta swami’s daily routine, he takes bath daily at
Varanasi.
Narada ghat where Shri Nrisimha saraswati swami took sanyas from his guru Shri Krishna
saraswati is in Varanasi only.
As per Mother Ganga’s request, Datta swami takes bath daily in Narada ghat( Raj ghat). At
4.30 am. Daily some cows and dogs come to this ghat during that time.
Shri Narahari( Salagrama deva) who is the second incarnation of Datta swami in Kaliyug took
permission from his mother, came to Kashi and accepted Sanyas on the banks of river Ganga
from his guru Shri Krishna saraswati. Paduka of Shri guru are still there in Datta ashram in
Varanasi.

Abu mountain Datta guru temple-108

Guru shikhar, Abu mountain.

Dattatreya paduka temple, Mother Anasuya temple and cave are there at this place. After
Himalaya and Nilgiri, Aravalli mountain range is older.Abu mountain is 1722 meters from sea
level. Total 300 steps have to be climbed to reach the apex. Dattatreya swami stood here and
imparted knowledge to 28 yogis. Later he did penance for 5500 years. Mother Anasuya temple
is also there near to Dattatreya temple.
200 Km from Udaipur. One day is sufficient to visit this place from Udaipur.
14 Km from Oriya village. Parking facility is there upto base of the mountain. Swami’s dhuni is
there.
350 Km from Jaipur.
At the top of the mountain, a bell (1411AD) weighing 180 kg is there beside Datta paduka
temple. One has to travel 7 Km on Durdle Avalara achalgarh road. Better to take a guide from
Oriya village as the route is a little confusing. Nakki lake is there which does not get dried at any
time. Food is available near lake premises.
Route map: Guru shikhar is 15 Km from Abu. It will take one hour to reach the top of the
mountain as only a single road is available for climbing up and getting down.

Ujjain Datta temple-109

Shri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami took danda from Sri Narayanananda Saraswati of Ujjain(
Belongs to Sri guru’s dynasty) as per Datta swami’s instruction after accepting the order of
renunciation( sanyas). He did his first Chaturmasya here. Later he did many Chaturmasa at
different places as per Datta swami’s order to establish dharma. He did his 18th Chaturmasya in
Muktyala of Andhra Pradesh.Swamy used to perform abhishek for 2 Datta murtis which he used
to carry always with him. When Flowers were not available, he used to do abhishek with holy
ash. These Datta murtis are very responsive to devotees.

Sri Vasudevananda saraswati swami took sanyas from Shri Narayananda saraswati who is a
disciple of Shri Aniruddha swami. Shri Aniruddha swamis a disciple of Shri Achyutananda
saraswati.

It is a very ancient temple.Sri Mahakar Rao Holkar built this temple 700 years ago. Many great
saints and sages used to have important conversations about god and dharma. Datta Jayanti is
being celebrated nicely. Recitation of Shri gurucharitra and chanting of Digambara Digambara
Sripada vallabha Digambara is being done continuously. Nath, Samartha,Mahanubhava and
Warkari traditions are being followed here. This temple is there on the banks of Narmada river (
called as Saraswati here). Many great saints like Shri Vasudevananda saraswati swami, Shri
Madhavanath maharaj and Shri Sitaram maharaj stayed in this temple for many days. Samartha
Ramadas swami did penance here and established a Hanuman temple. This temple is in the
premises of Krishnapura.

Temples of Shri Matseyndranath and Shri Dattareya swamy are there in one and only one Hindu
country Nepal. Here Datta swami has one face and four hands. This ancient temple is 8 Km
from Kathmandu and is located in a valley. Windows and walls of this temple are beautifully
crafted using wood and rock. This temple was not damaged slightly because of the earthquake
in Nepal.
Temple is in the shape of Damarukam. This world famous temple is in the region where sage
Daladana did penance. As per Datta swami’s order,Sage Daladana told Gorakshanath that
Gorakshanath is going to get darshan of Dattatreya in this temple.

Shri Dattatreya temple-112

Shri Tambe swami maharaj( Keshavanath saraswati swami) is disciple of Shri Vasudevananda
saraswati swami. Shri Keshavanath saraswati and Shri Vasudevananda saraswati swami look
similar. Shri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami himself gave Sanyas diksha to Shri Keshavanath
saraswati.
When his guru thought of him, Shri Keshavanath saraswati used to know and start walking
immediately irrespective of the distance to reach his guru. One day when he was walking, he
saw a hut in a garden in Indore. He stayed there until he entered samdhi. Shri Vasudevananda
Saraswati swami gave a Datta murti to him. He constructed a nice temple and installed Datta
murti. His Samadhi is there in his hermit which is behind Datta temple. He instructed that
whoever does the parayana of Shri guru charitra 52 times in this temple will reach a spiritually
higher state.

Jorve village-113
Very ancient temple.
Renovation is done 3 times in 150 years. Jnaneshwar Maharaj who is a disciple of Dattopant
maharaj did renovation for the first time. His Samadhi is there in this temple.
Murti of Sri Krishna is there beside Datta murti. Ganesha and Maruti temples are also there in
the temple complex.
This one faced Datta temple is there in Jorve village of Sangamner taluka which is 30 km from
Shirdi. Villagers approached Shirdi Sainath in 1916 for renovation,Sai gave them a bell and told
them that their desire will be fulfilled shortly. After 21 days a person belonging to Siddhi
vinayaka temple committee of Mumbai came to this village and gave sufficient funds for temple
renovation.
Datta murti is made from black stone. Here group recitation of Shri gurucharitra and holy name
chanting happens regularly. Datta jayanti is being celebrated in a grand way. Temple renovation
was completed on 26-07-1918 which is just 3 months before the entry of Saibaba into Samadhi.
Sati Anasuya- 114
Sati Anasuya temple is 5 km away from Shinor village which is in the western direction of
Chandodh. Chandodh comes in between Vadodara-Dabhoi route. This temple is located at a
distance of 58 km from Vadodara. Mother Anasuya and Datta swami temples are located at the
confluence of rivers Narmada, Aurasong and Saraswati (flows internally). This is a very holy and
pleasant place. Parayana of Shri gurucharitra happens here. Every Sunday, Tuesday and Friday
special pujas will be performed. The significance of this temple is whoever takes bath at this
confluence of rivers (sangam) and do spiritual practice of Datta and mother Anasuya sincerely
with devotion, they will be cured of severe ailments and any type of diseases.

reached by traveling for 2 km in the western direction. From Shinar one has to travel for 5 km to
reach the temples.

Mother Anasuya temple-115

Mother Anasuya temple (Uttarakhand) is a very ancient and pleasant temple. Childless couples
participate in Saturday’s puja in this temple. Japa and Yagna of Bhagavati sati, mother
Anasuya, happen here. According to ancillary texts of puranic literature(sthala purana),whoever
participates in puja, japa and Yagna at this temple will beget children. This place is ideal for
doing Spiritual practice pertaining to Datta. Here only Mother Anasuya obtained Shri Brahma,
Vishnu and Shiva as her children and they roamed here as little kids. Datta jayanti is being
celebrated nicely for 2 days.
Route map: One has to reach Gopeshwar by road and from there need to walk for 4 Km in a
pleasant forest route between the hills.

Ek Mukhi Datta-116
A devotee named Sri Naropant was suffering from severe stomach pain and he took shelter of
Sri vasudevananda saraswati swami. With the blessings of swami,his illness got cured. He was
not only dear to Sri vasudevananda saraswati swami but also to lord Datta.Lord Datta made Sri
vasudevananda saraswati swami cook pudding and feed to Sri naropanth when naropanth went
to visit Swami. With that gratitude, he built temples for Datta and vasudevananda saraswati
swami here. He never violated the instructions of Sri vasudevananda swami . As per Datta’s
order, Sri vasudevananda swamy stayed here for a few days while on his way to Garudeshwar.
Here Datta padukas and ganapati are installed under the audumbar tree. A cave like one in
Mangaon where swami did penance is formed here in the tree. Swami performed many miracles
here. Samadhi of Naropanth is also there.

Katraj Datta kshetra-117

Katraj is 20 km from Pune. Kanifnath( Krishna pada) is the fourth one out of Navnath. His
temple is there in Kondhwa saswad road. Only men should go through the 9x9 window. He is
related to Ganapati as he took birth from an elephant's ear. Samadhi of Sopandev, who is
brother of Jnaneshwar and also considered as incarnation of Brahma dev is also there nearby.

Avimukta Datta kshetra-118

Here samadhi brindavanam of Shri Ramananda who is 16th pontiff of Pranav’s peeth of Datta
tradition.
This kshetra is called Avimukta Datta kshetra. Here Padukas given by Datta swami to Nanda
maharaj of pandava dynasty are there. Datta swami taught Datta sahasranama to Shri Adi
Shankaracharya here. Here Avi mukteshwara Shiv ling installed by sage Muchukunda is there
and later It is worshiped by Shri Adi Shankaracharya. Avimukta means which does not
deteriorate, ever existing, giver of highest good and liberation. Padukas which have these
above qualities were given to his devotee Nanda Maharaj by Datta swami. As mutt is very old,
renovation is under progress.

Chandhala parameshwari-119
In the ancient times, sage Krita did penance for mother Hinglaj (located in Pakistan) keeping the
destruction of demons as his objective. She was pleased and gave him darshan here. She is
self manifested as Chandala parameshwari here.
A Brahmana named Nandi sharma got white leprosy disease. To get rid of that he went to
Tuljapur and worshiped Bhavani devi for 3 years with great devotion. But he is not cured of the
disease. He fasted for 3 days. On the third day mother appeared in his dream and told him to
worship Chandala parameshwari.
He came to this place and worshiped Chandala parameshwari for 7 months by taking food
only once in a day. One day she appeared in his dream and instructed him to visit Shri Nrisimha
saraswati swami who is an incarnation of Datta swami in Gangapur. Nandi Sharma was
devastated by hearing this and told her “ Devi, cure me if you wish otherwise I will leave this
body here only”. Devi once again ordered Nandi sharma to leave the place and instructed the
main priest also to ensure Nandi sharma leave the temple. Later he went to Gangapur and got
cured because of Shri guru’s blessings.

Dharwad Datta Kshetra: Self manifested paduka Kshetra
A great devotee named Nagubai of Banjara Pudi village used to go to Gangapur on foot every
year from Chidambar temple in her village. One time she stayed for 3 days in Gangapur.
Dattatreya swami appeared in her dream and asked her when I am staying at the Audumbar
tree in your home in the form of padukas, why are you coming this far? Then she came back
and found Datta padukas at the root of the Audumbar tree. Then she worshiped those padukas
by constructing a Datta temple in her home.

Dattatreya temple, Phaltan.
Datta murti in this temple was installed by Gondavali maharaj on 19th April 1912. Landlord of
this village thought of building Shri Rama and Datta temples and instructed a person to make
the necessary arrangements. Datta murti was made by using black stone which can be found in
river Gandaki. But the landlord does not like the color of murti. Later he made Datta murti using
white marble.
Villagers took permission from the landlord and Datta murti made from black stone was installed
by Shri Gondavali maharaj.

Datta temple, Brahmavartam.
Shri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami did 12th ,13th and 14th Chaturmasya here as per Datta
swami’s order. Swami stayed here for a period of 2 years and 2 months. Swami used to stay in
Rama temple. He used to teach yoga to youth and stories of Krishna to children. He used to
enter samadhi state while telling stories of Krishna. In the evening he gave discourses on 11 th
canto of Srimad Bhagavatam.

Badwai Datta temple
Shri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami did 16 th Chaturmasya here on the banks of Narmada
river as per Datta swami’s order. As villagers turned up in huge numbers, Swami left the village
and went to the forest. Villagers wento forest to have darshan of swami. Datta swami ordered
Shri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami to stay in the village only. Swami used to teach
Vedanta kesari, Panchikarana, Mandukyopanishad, Pranayama and yoga to localites. One day
swami fell down while taking a bath in Narmada river. He got back pain. Mother Narmada told
him one mantra. As soon as he chanted that mantra, he was relieved of the pain.

Babu sahib vipra who is a Datta devotee in Pandharpur obtained Datta darshan in his dream.
As a result he came to know the location of Datta murti in Chandrabhaga river while doing
meditation. He found one faced Datta murti made of Salagrama.
 Some devotees of Panduranga swami objected to the construction of Datta temple saying no
temple other than vithal should exist in Pandharpur. After receiving orders from Datta swami,
they also agreed for the construction of Datta temple.
Panduranga(Babu sahib vipra) brought Datta murti on an elephant and installed it in the
newly constructed temple on the banks of river Chandrabhaga in the yer 1793. His disciple is
Tukavipra. Tukaram, Namdev and Vipra composed many Abhangas on Datta swami in Marathi.

Datta murti in this temple is installed by Brahmananda saraswati of Viayawada with the
permission of Shri Vasudevananda saraswati swami.
Specialities of this temple:
1. Even ordinary devotees also can feel the god’s energy here.
2. Sanctum sanctorum, circumambulation path and place where Arati is given will be 2 feet
above the ground. Behind the temple Audambar tree and ancient Datta padukas are
there.
3. Interior of Sanctum sanctorum is fully carved with wood and looks amazing.
4. Here Datta murti with one face and 6 hands looks very beautiful.
5. Here Datta swami is the supreme controller of mantra Shakti, Yoga Shakti and Nighuda
Shakti. 6 chakras shaped holes are made on the doors of sanctum sanctorum
representing chakras existing at specified locations in the human body. If Datta murti is
viewed through these holes, bodily parts of Datta murti where chakras are located are
only visible.
6. In a week, Datta swami is decorated as Shankara, Devi, Panduranga,Manikya prabhu,
Jnaneshwar and Balavadhuta on each day respectively.

Virupaksha someshwara swami which was installed by sage Atri.
Sage Atri did penance for Shiva. Pleased by the penance of Sage Atri, Shiva appeared and
gave him Atma linga (similar to that of Mahabaleshwar in Gokarna). Later Sage Atri installed it
at this place in Kruthayug. The color of this linga will be reddish in the morning, Quartz color in
the afternoon and honey color at night. In the later times Srikrishna devaraya constructed this
temple.

Shri Kalleshwar mahadev temple
It is Mentioned in? chapter of Shri Gurucharitra and associated with the great poet Shri Narahari
(Mentioned in Shri Gurucharitra), Hipparagi(Mandewal).
This village is 30 km from Gangapur and is in Bijapur district. It is located in
Gulbarga-Jewargi-Sindagi-Bijapur main road at a distance of 3 km from highway. Shri
Kalleshwara Mahadev temple has a history of 850 years. In this temple only Shri guru gave
darshan to Narahari. Later Narahari swami became a devotee of Shri guru and composed many
stotras. Some of those writings are there with Datto pant joshi (Ph: 09731606862) who belongs
to the 8th generation of Narahari swami.More details about this temple is in older version of Shri
gurucharitra.
Narahari swami used to get few chamanthi flowers and few grams of gold from the shiv ling
because of Swami’s blessings. Like this it continued for 4 generations but stopped later.

Sage Agasthya who is the son of sage Pulaha did penance. Sage Pulaha is Manasa son of
Brahma. Sage Atri along with mother Anasuya accepted the invitation of Sage Agastya whom
they consider equivalent to their son and visited this place. Here shivling established by sage
Agastya and Atrishwara ling installed by Sage Atri are there. Here Kovakkar who is a disciple of
sage Atri created Ganga. Mother Ganga’s murti is there at this place. Worshiping Ganga and
forest deity Vanadurga on Amavasya is considered auspicious.
Shiva, Kovakkar, Atri, Anasuya and Agastya stay in Pothigai hills and Alwarkurichi hills.
There is a mention of sage Atri in 5th mandal of Rigveda. Atri malai ( Atri hill) can be visited on
full moon day, Friday and special festival days. Carrying of Aadhar cards should be carried
along as this place is under the control of the forest department. If one starts at 8 am,they can
come back at 5 pm. Special permission is required to stay at night. This scenic place is at a
height 500 feet from sea level. Many great saints and sages did penance here.

Vamanabuva swami is a devotee of Swami Samartha. When he fell Ill,he wrote a letter to Swami
Samartha. But swami did not reply. Unable to bear the pain, he decided to commit suiscide by
jumping in Sursagar lake in Vadodara. When he was about to jump, Swami Samartha appeared
and told him one has to experience prarabdha karma.He questioned him rather than entering
Sahaja samadhi, Do you want to enter Jala samadhi? Is this your knowledge? A mutt was
established where swami Samartha gave darshan. Murti of swami Samartha is installed by Sri
Ranga Avadhuta.

Shri Vasudevananda Saraswati swami had a brother named Shri sitaram maharaj before the
acceptance of sanyas order. While Shri Sitaram Maharaj was staying in this town,he met a
devotee who was in his last days of life with a desire to do Datta’s service.He expressed his fear
whether he will get Datta’s service in his next birth or not to maharaj.Swami blessed that
devotee by giving 16 years from his life span and entered samadhi. Shri Hemaraj built one
temple here. The Datta idol installed here is very attractive.

This Datta temple is there in the famous local Narasimha temple. This temple is built by
Badaraho Ibrahim who is a Muslim disciple of Sri Nrisimha saraswati swami. He used to come
daily to this temple for darshan. Some say that he is the same person about whom it was
discussed in 9 th and 49 chapters of Shri gurucharitra. Devotees found self manifested Datta
padukas here and installed them in a newly constructed temple. Datta Jayanti and Ganesh
Chaturthi are being celebrated in a grand way. This temple is opposite to Bijapur bus stand.

This temple is located near Palasa town of Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. With the
blessings of Datta Avadhuta Sadananda saraswati maharaj of palasa, goshala, Audumber Datta

there in the temple.

The construction of Shri guru Dattatreya swami temple in Adoni,Kurnool district of Andhra
Pradesh took place for a period of 4 years from 1973.The main murti was installed by then
peethadhipati of Shri guru Raghavendra swami mutt, Shri sushameendra teertha. A panchaloha
murti of Sri Dattatreya swami was found here in the last decade of the 19th century. Devotees
placed that murti in a room and started worshipping along with bhajans.Later, a big main murti
of Dattatreya swami and Sri Krishna were installed in the year 1977 in a newly constructed
temple. Many followers of Marathi tradition are there in the temple.Traditions of Varkari,
Ganagapur and Pandharpur are being followed during worship, Keerthans and bhajans.
Abhishek, archana, bhajans and grand Harati are performed every Thursday morning from
6.00am to 8.00am followed by Madhukari( Biksha) in the afternoon.
