HW7 individual task

Step 1: Choose an informative presentation on the topic of your interest (can also be
related to your studies, individual project, etc. - choose something useful!). Condition: NOT
a TED talk! Remember to include a link to the video.

Step 2: Watch and answer the following questions (refer to the required Cheesebro reading
to do this):

1. What is the central idea of this presentation?

The idea of the "Joyce Kim on… helpting storytellers find their confidence” presentation
is about the Moth Story Slam is an open mic storytelling show where ten randomly
selected individuals share their personal stories without notes or props. The Regional
Producer, Joyce Kim, which is also the speaker in the video, ensures a welcoming
atmosphere and supports the storytellers on stage. She points out that thhe audience plays
a crucial role, providing support and encouragement, as well as engaging the
audience in the show and Kim reassures hesitant participants that the audience is
supportive and forgiving.

2. What main points does the presentation develop? State them in complete
sentences in parallel form.

The talk began by discussing the presenters' experience participating in a storytelling

show and the excitement in the room. She described the impact that environmental
changes may have on people, and then she presented narrative Slam, an open mic
storytelling program in which people sign up to deliver a five-minute personal narrative
with no notes or props. Ten names are randomly selected from a tote
bag during the show, and those individuals are invited on stage
to share their stories. They might obtain new insights during this process by
having their presentations assessed and scored. The organizers will proclaim the winner
of the Story Slam at the conclusion of the evening. Her personal information is
then shared; her name is Joyce Kim, and she works as a regional
producer at Moth Story Slams. Joyce Kim's role as a regional
producer entails securing venues, organizing the crew, recruiting
volunteers, and ensuring that everyone feels welcome at the
shows. As a result, the participants can reduce stressors such as
nerves and fear when dealing with problems on the stages. She
also believes that she can make the participants feel better, and
that the audience during the presentation would also forgive
them to help them get through the storytelling period.

3. What type of attention-grabber does the speaker use? How effective is it? How
does the speaker create the need for the information?

4. What are your reactions to this presentation (benefits and objections)?
