MCD NAME CALLING

- Name calling can be seen as a form of verbal harassment, derogatory language, and insult
towards one person.
- “Mike” is the word used as a tease towards Mahmoud.
- It can be insulting to Mahmoud since di niya actual name yon, it can be something like a
nickname which he wants to forget or choose to not use at all.
- Mahmoud sounds like a Muslim Name and the fact that Lori keeps on calling him “Mike” tapos
ang reason niya is “to think about our clientele” masyadong shady na as if there is something
wrong about using the name “mahmoud” that sounds like a name of a Muslim.
- What I see from this study is, Lori is trying to change the name of Mahmoud into an english
name na “mike” which is hindi naman reasonable at all if para lang sa clientele or for the job
position.
- Another thing, maybe Lori has something negative thinking about the Muslims.

(study content that can be used from the link: The study (Wykes, 2013) that served as the basis for this
article examined how a person's name can influence how others see them in terms of their 'race'
identify. This shows racism based on a person’s name. Jamal Hassan Hamdaoui is a BA student/musician
who shares his racial discrimination experience because of his name. He stated assumptions about his
name are usually misleading and he feel “paranoid” about some university activities because when
people heard about his name, they often give a cultural and profile expectation. Jamal was concerned
that people could associate his name with racism and assume it represents his personal ideologies.
