Write a 1000-word essay discussing the following:

a. How are love and sexuality related?

b. Contemporary world and love.

Love has always been an important contributor of human nature. It encompasses

different aspects of human life. May it be familial, scientific or philosophical, the phenomenon of

loving something always have an explanation in different forms of discipline. Just as it is a multi-

disciplinary trait, it is also not limited to only a man and a woman and is not bound by the

standards of the society. It is something that is innate to all of us and may change according to

the way we live our lives.

Sexuality is a topic generally referring to the sexual feelings, thoughts, preferences or

behavior of a person towards other people. Like were mentioned, just as love is an innate ability

to humans, so is sexuality. In addition to the fact that humans were raised differently and in

different environments, the society cannot put a standard on how people should act based on

their sexuality. As positive as this may sound, the society still put these standards and treats

people who are not following it as different, or worse, an abnormality. It can be a source of

discrimination that affects the society in a lot of ways.

As was mentioned, both love and sexuality are innate to humans. The way one

perceives other people based on their sexuality vastly affects the way they love or whom their

love is directed to. They may fall in love to the person with the same sex as them, fall in love to

both sexes or to no one at all. Furthermore, since sexuality encompasses impressions for other

people, one trait may be a reason for a person to fall in love to another. It may be because of

their looks, their behavior towards something or someone or that person fits their preferences.

After all, first impressions are very important because it serves as a foundation for other people

to perceive people. Therefore, sexuality plays a major role in the introductory phase of a

relationship because it tells a person whether others are attractive for them or should they

pursue a relationship with them.

What were discussed earlier were the connection between love and sexuality in terms of

establishing relationships to other people. But in terms of familial love, sexuality is also an

important consideration. As many people say, love knows no bounds, no matter who the person

is being presented in front, if that person is part of their family, they can accept them. In our time

now, what defines a family is more centralized on the emotional attachment that people have

with one another, rather than the biological basis. Families may be composed of parents who

have the same sex and an adopted child or parents who are transman and transwoman and a

biological or adopted child. As a result, this challenges the standards in which the society has

dictated what a family should be. The same situation can be said to a family in which a child is a

homosexual, bisexual, pansexual or asexual due to a variety of reasons. Because of the

discrimination that these people experience, more of the members of LGBTQ+ experience

mental and emotional disorders and negativities. Having a family that loves and accepts them

completely for who they are helps them deal with the hardships society has to offer to people

like them. It also vastly helps with their confidence and sexual expression that may attributed to

the support given to them by their partners, family members and people who are the same as

them. Love and sexuality go hand in hand together, may the sexuality of the person be

heterosexual, homosexual or are currently looking for what fits them. Either as a gateway to a

relationships or a medium to fall in love, to a fundamental pillar that composes a family. Love

and sexuality are considered important because they are innate to humans and no standard will

ever have the power to change that.

Part of human progression is the increased understanding of differences in ideology,

history, races or ethnicity or levels of technology. The goal of uniting humans around the world

has always been one of the main objectives of our time in the contemporary world. Due to this,

the meaning of love further evolves and is further challenged and proved to be fundamental to

human nature. And with the progression of technology, humans can connect to other people

almost anywhere in the world. With this in mind, newer concepts of relationships are formed, a

prime example being long-distance relationships. Long-distance relationship is established

when two people who are in a relationship are far from each other. They often talk through text

messages, social media and other platforms through chats or video calls. It was only possible

due to the advancement of technology, it will never work when in previous eras because part of

being in love with someone is letting them feel your presence. What makes love complex during

our times is the fact that not only is sexuality included, many other factors such as race and

ethnicity is also involved in the relationships. This led to the formation of interracial relationships

and children exhibiting physical traits of both races, which further complicate the way humans

perceive physical, mental and emotional preferences on dictating their own sexuality.

Modern times show the improvement of acquiring information and as a result, it changed

the way we interact with others and increased the complexity to our perception of love and

sexuality. But one thing worth noticing is that love is still prevalent in our era, only more complex

by being defined by so much more. The standards of sexuality are slowly being lifted off thanks

to the social movement that people did to promote equality. These people are now openly

expressing themselves and even others respect their wishes by changing the way they want to

be called or perceived. In every era humans live, there will always be love in any form and will

continue to do so in the future, because love, is something innate to humans.
