The world should adopt an official global language

Argument Pro-1st
Having an official global language will facilitate international trade.

According to www.noslangues-ourlanguages.gc.ca, in order to buy from or sell to a business

partner from another country, you need to communicate effectively and accurately. A global
language eliminates the communication barrier, promoting greater international trade and
opportunities for economic growth.

If the world had an official global language, it would be much more economically stable, and,
therefore more peaceful. Using the LBI (Language Barrier Index), Johannes Lohmann found that
“language barriers are a significant deterrent to bilateral trade. A 10% increase in the Language
Barrier Index can cause a 7% to 10% decrease in trade flows between two countries.”

Without the world having an official global language, a lot of people who work in big companies
which do not want to communicate in English can lose their job because of the companies closing
(caused by not being able to make trades et cetera). Thus, those people will not have money to
feed their families, their kids, and even their parents. Should they be left to die of starvation
because YOU don’t react now?

Argument Pro-2nd
Having an official global language will delay the onset of dementia.

According to www.bhcc.edu, people who are fully bilingual and speak both languages every day
can delay the onset of dementia by up to four years compared with those who only know one
language. The extra effort involved in using more than one language appeared to boost blood
supply to the brain and ensure nerve connections remained healthy which are the two factors
thought to help fight off dementia.

If the world had an official global language, more people will be able to speak it and, therefore,
they would have up to 4 more years to enjoy their life dementia-free. It could be even you!
Without the world having an official global language, it is possible for even your parents and you
to get dementia much sooner because you could be not motivated to learn a second (global)
language.

Argument Con-1st
Having an official global language will take away people’s identity.
According to www.businessinsider.com, language is not simply a means for communicating.
Language is also identity. Subconsciously, people communicate who they are, what they believe,
and where they're from.

If the world had an official global language, people would lose the idea of who they are, because
the obstacles to one language are similar to the obstacles to us all wearing the same clothes. On
the other hand, if there was no global language, people would be much happier and free, and YOU
would be much happier and free. How? Well, if your identity is taken away from you by making a
global language, you will not be able to be your full self. Consequently, you will not be free as
much as you would be if there was no global language.

Argument Con-2nd
Having an official global language presents challenges for non-native speakers in the sciences.

According to www.noslangues-ourlanguages.gc.ca, having a global language has allowed scientists

to access a vast amount of literature from around the world, but it has also presented significant
challenges for non-native speakers of English. Scientists need to clearly communicate their
findings, conclusions, and methods, and for some non-native speakers, that can be strenuous.
Scientists who want their work to be globally recognized need to attend English conferences or
discussions and read English scientific papers. According to an article published in The Atlantic,
80% of scientific papers were in English.

If the world had an official global language, there would be fewer chances of scientific inventions
and findings because, if there are some from the countries that do not speak the global language,
they won’t be known to the world as a result of not knowing that same global language. What if
people from your country find the cure for cancer and they can not share it with the rest of the
world because of not knowing the global language?

However, if there was no global language, more scientists would have a chance to make
noticeable achievements in their field. They could be successful in their lives and save the lives of
many other people- and now we are talking about the BILLIONS!
