Teaching Plan for Tuesday, November 7th

11:25-12:00- Printing
Focusing on printing the letter M

 Demonstrate Capital and Lowercase versions of the letter.

 Write 2 sentences involving both capital and lowercase letters.
 Draw a picture in the top box that correlates to the sentence or something
that begins with the letter M.

Lesson:
We are going to look at the letter M!

Capital: when we write the uppercase M, we are making sure that we start at the
bottom of our lines and come up to the top and make two sharp peaks, then straight
back down. Think of these like mountains!

Lowercase: when we write the lowercase m, we are starting with a straight line
coming down from the top, then making 2 humps of the same size, making sure
our humps only come to the middle line. Think of these like small hills!

Now I would like you to get out your printing booklets and turn to the M page. You
are going to practice writing nice, neat capital M all the way across the top line,
then lowercase m across the next line, then both on the next, and we’re going to
write 2 sentences that you’re going to write on the last lines.

Sentences (write them twice? in the book):

Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world.

Macaroni is my mom’s favourite food.

When you are done writing, you are going to draw a picture of anything you want
that starts with the letter M in the box  if they finish early, they can colour the
picture.

12:40-1:15- Story and Science

Gather everyone on the mat for story time- Read The Soldier’s Puppy
Take a look while we read at what the land looks like. Think about what it looks
like.
We’re going to watch a quick video today. Some of it is going to be review for you
and then we’ll talk about the plains.

We are going to talk about the plains today. Remember this morning in our printing
we talked about the letter M being tall like a mountain? When we think of the
plains, we think the opposite, very grassy, flat and simple or plain.

The plains are really great for farming and have lots of animals that live at eat
there, like deer, and gazelles (from our bell work this morning)

Workbook pages on the Plains

Teaching Plan for Wednesday, November 8th

10:50-11:25- Dictation

Written down in the dictation books.

Start with Phonics sounds- ask them to write the ways they hear each sound.
Phonics Words- write the word they hear (spelling test format)
Sentences: Read it out a few times, have them copy it down how they think it’s
spelled, have them read it back with you with emphasis
Sight Words- spelling test format.

12:40-1:15- Science
Volcanos!

Check-in from yesterday- ask what they remember about the plains.
When they have a handle on that, move on to the next landform- volcanos.
Who can tell me what they know about volcanoes?
Do we have them in Alberta?
Watch the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoylW8oU340

Demo the volcano and talk about the main parts as we go through the experiment
Crater- the main part that you see, this is the opening of the volcano
Vent- where the magma comes up to exit the crater
Magma- super hot melted rock inside the base of the volcano, you cant see it.
Ash cloud- the smoke that you see after a volcano erupts
Lava- cooled down magma outside the volcano, this is what you see flowing over
the sides after the eruption, makes the volcano bigger when it cools because it
hardens into rock.

Workbook time!
Do the true and false questions
In your own words, write what a volcano is.
Draw your own! Label it? Colour it.
