Equipment – General Items

Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH

Equipment--General Items

Preface
Before the single station and system commissioning of SDH equipment, it is
necessary to emphasize the following points:

1. Single station must be tested carefully

The test purpose is mainly to ensure 100% correctness of wiring and to

monitor the performance of the single station etc.; just connecting through is
far from enough, as it is only the rudimentary requirement of the system.
There might be many problems and even potential problems when a
system is formed.

2. Wiring must be 100% correct

· Connectors can not be dislocated

· The receiving and sending directions of connectors can not be

reversed

· Connectors must be in good contact (this problem is likely to be

neglected, and often the coaxial connector is not completely in position.)

3. Some requirements when single station performance is monitored

1) The monitoring scope should cover most of the hardware paths, the more
the better, including those unused in current services, to ensure smooth
upgrading and expanding in the future.

2) The monitoring time should be as long as possible. Sometimes the time

is limited, but the monitoring time should be at least more than one hour.
The cause of successive small bit errors must be found out; but occasional
bit error without cause and effect and without continuity can be neglected.

3) No serious problem will occur at system commissioning stage if the

single station commissioning is perfectly performed, and the remaining
work is only to test the whole network function.

2-1

4. About the acceptance testing items

Acceptance testing items should be discussed with the customer before the
single station commissioning stage. The items and the interfaces to test
should be determined at that time and the corresponding memo is prefered.
(or to record in Summary of Negotiation Meeting before Installation)

The testing items that is availalbe at single station commissioning should be

performed at that stage, with the eligible results recorded in Test Record.
Every page of Test Record should be signed by the customer technician.

The testing under the engineer's individual opinion might result in the
rejection of customer, and this case should be avoided.

5. System function testing is required

Such test mainly includes the reliability of protection switching and reliability
of resetting (restarting) etc..

6. Responsibility and enthusiasm are the prerequisites to do the work well

If the above requirements are reached, most commissioning work will be

done successfully.

2.1 Examination of Single Station Hardware

2.1.1 Examine Cabinet Installation
Before each cabinet is powered on, the equipment hardware should be
examined strictly according to the Installation Manual of corresponding
OptiX equipment.

Ÿ Multiple cabinets should be installed in alignment, each cabinet should

be level and steady.

Ÿ Whether the screws on the front and back of cabinet are complete and tightened

Ÿ Check cabinet, there should be no obvious dent, scratch and dirt

Ÿ Ensure that Order-wire telephone , anti-static wrist strap and network cable are not lost,
and maintenance personnel is informed not to take them for other use.

Ÿ There are no unrelated things inside the cabinet

Ÿ For other examinations, refer to Installation Manual

2.1.2 Examine Subrack Installation

2-2
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

Ÿ Whether there is obvious defect on the panel and connectors of

interface area of subrack, whether the wires are connected properly
(especially the two protection grounding wires of subrack)

Ÿ Make sure there is no such things like small screws and broken belts
etc. in subrack.

2.1.3 Resistance Measurement Between power cabling posts of Power Box at

the Top of Cabinet
The currently using power box at the top of cabinet is SS03PBS, with its
front panel shown in Figure 2-1:

Figure 2-1 The front panel of SS03PBS

Components on the panel arranged from left to right are as follows:

1) Two -48V power master switches: -48V1 and -48V2.

2) Four copper cabling posts: PGND and GND (BGND) ; two -48V power
copper cabling posts: -48V1 and -48V2.

3) Four subrack power switches: two upper rack power switches-- UPPER
SUBRACKs (dual system), and two lower rack power switches -- LOWER
SUBRACKs (dual system).

4) Alarm sound cutting out switch MUTE and acousto-optic test switch
TEST.

5) SS02PMU: supports hot plug. There are two indicators on its front
panel ,the upper is running indicator (green) and the lower is alarm indicator
(red) .

2-3
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

Before the shipment of OptiX equipment ,the BGND and PGND posts is
connected with a shorting wire ,and the same as -48V1 and -48V2 posts.

Test the resistance between -48V1 (or -48V2) and BGND (or PGND) posts
with the shorting wires on its position before the power cables are
connected. The normal result should be as follows: When the -48V1 and -
48V2 are switched on, no matter the subrack power switches are all
switched on or off , the resistance between -48V1 (or -48V2) and BGND (or
PGND) posts should be ∞; and when the -48V1 and -48V2 are all switched
off, no matter the subrack power switches are all switched on or off , the
resistance between -48V1 (or -48V2) and BGND (or PGND) posts should
be tens of K ohm. If the resistance is less than 20 ohm when one subrack
power switch is switched on, there may exist short-circuit inside the subrack
. This fault must be cleared before switch on the power!

If two individual -48V power supply ia applied, the shorting wire bwteen -
48V1and -48V2 posts should be removed, otherwise the power supply
device may be damaged due to the current backflow which is caused by the
voltage difference between the two power supplies. If there is only one
power supply, keep the shorting wire between -48V1 and -48V2 posts.
When power on OptiX equipment, the two -48V master switches should be
both switched on. Meanwhile, the "use the secondary power supply" item in
PMU parameter dialog box should be selected in NMS, otherwise the PMU
unit may report the alarms as "PWR-MAJ-ALM" or "PWR-MIN-ALM" .

The shorting wire between BGND and PGND posts should not be pull down
( have the function of thunderstreak-proof ). If the customer doubts about
this, guide and explain to them refering to the answer of "telecommunication
protection technical support center of China Telecom Bureau General" or to
ITU-T K.27 recommendation.

There are two power input ports in OptiX 155/622H,located on the right of
the casing back.Set the power switch to the state of OFF and test the
resistance respectively between PGND,GND,BGND and -48V using the
multimeter to see whether there is short circuit. In case of short
circuit,power-on wiht a view to finding out the reson for short circuit is
strictly prohibited.Notice both of the power input ports must be measured.

2.1.4 Examine Cable Layout

Check the layout of power supply wire, ground wire, trunk cable and tail
fiber, which should be orderly and tidy and completely in compliance with
the requirements in Installation Manual. Power supply wire, ground wire,
trunk cable and tail fiber should all be pasted with correct labels.

2-4
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

The grounding of ground wires must accord with the "Grounding

Specifications of SDH Transmission System" in Installation Manual.

Note: The voltage between customer's protection grounding and work

grounding connector bar should be less than 0.5V.

2.1.5 Examine Board Appearance

Ÿ The lock screw on the handle bar of board should be complete and
tightened The identifications on the handle bar of board should be correct
and clear.

Ÿ If a board is to be pulled out, the followings should also be checked:

the setting of toggle switches, jumpers, connectors, and software version
etc. on respective boards. For example, the setting of SW2 and SW3
toggle switch of OHP2 unit, the ID toggle switch setting of SCC unit, the
optical module type, 75ohm/120ohm. Jumpers on PL1 board etc.,and
whether the flange of optical aggregate unit are loosened due to
transportation. The version of board PCB, FPGA/EPLD, BIOS, board
software and NE software should be recorded in engineering technical
documents.

Ÿ Whether the handle of board can move smoothly, if it is too tight, it

should be repaired so as not to damage the motherboard when a board is
inserted.

Ÿ Check whether each board can be inserted into its own slot smoothly,
forced pull-and-plug is forbidden.

Ÿ Whether the guide pins (used to prevent mis-plugging ) is normal and

tight.

Please refer to Installation Manual or Maintenance Manual for the correct

operation of plugging in a board. Be sure to wear anti-static wrist strap
whenever contact board.

2.1.6 Finish the Engineering Technical Documents which Can Be Filled In at

Single Station Commissioning Stage
To fill in the engineering technical documents after commissioning is too
late. The information and test results of each station should be recorded at
single station commissioning stage. The information such as the full name
and the software version of each unit, the transmission distance and single
mode/multple mode of optical aggregate unit can be refered to the shipping
list and its appending hardware&software list.

2.1.7 Ensure all the power switches are off after the single station hardware
examination is finished

2.2 Power-on Testing of Cabinet

2.2.1 Ante-Power-on Examination
After single station hardware is installed, you should check the following
before connecting power supply wire to power supply equipment:

1. Fuse volume of customer's power supply equipment

For OptiX155/622 equipment, it is recommended that the fuse volume for

each subrack is 10~15A correspondingly; and OptiX2500+ to be 15~20A,as
for OptiX 122/622H to be 5A.

2. Power supply output voltage of customer's power feeding device

The voltages at cusotmer's power supply outlet terminals should be

measured first, and the value should be in the range of -38.4V~57.6V. If it
not in this range, the output voltage should be recorded, a suggestion for
rectification and improvement should be put forward to the customer and
power-on of OptiX equipment is forbidden.

2.2.2 Power on of Cabinet

1) after the examination all above passed, connect power supply wire and
ground wire to the posts on top of OptiX cabinet. Pay attention to the
sequence: first connect the wires to the posts on top of OptiX cabinet tightly,
then connect the wires to customer's power supply posts. During this
operation, the power switch of OptiX equipment and the corresponding
switch of customer's power supply module should all be off.

Make sure the customer's power engineer is present, when connect power
supply wire and ground wire to customer's power supply device. It is
recommended to connect the wires to power supply device by customer's
engineer, but we must point out which is power supply wire and which is
ground wire. This duty may also refer to the devison of engineering
interface.

2) power on the customer's corresponding power supply switch, and

observe both side's equipment. Measure the voltage at the posts on top of
OptiX cabinet to ensure the positive and negative polarity is strictly correct.

3) After all these examinations passed, power on the two master power
switches at top of OptiX cabinet. Now the green indicator at the top of
cabinet should be ON, and other indicators are all OFF.

2.2.3 Availability Examination of Acousto-optic Test Switch at the Top of Cabinet

2-6
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

Set the acousto-optic test switch TEST at the top of cabinet to ON, the red
and yellow indicators on the top should both be ON, accompanying with
alarm sound.

2.2.4 Availability Examination of Alarm Sound Cutting Out Switch at the Top of
Cabinet
Then set the Alarm sound cutting out switch MUTE at the top of rack to OFF
to mute the alarm sound.

After these two tests are completed, set the MUTE key to ON and TEST
key to OFF.

2.2.5 Test External Connection of Alarm

If the customer requires to output OptiX alarm signals to such as column-
head cabinet, or requires to input external alarm signals into OptiX
equipment, it is necessary to test the alarm signal output and input function.

In SS03PBS at the top of OptiX cabinet, there is a PMU board called Power
and Environment Monitoring unit, and its location is as illustrated in Figure
2-2:

(the positon of PDA is shown above). The pins of these two socket
connectors are entirely the same, including one critical alarm output and
one non-critical alarmoutput, as shown in Figuer 2-3:

Each socket connector extends four alarm output wires provided by Huawei
Co., the colors are as follows:

Critical alarm: Red

Non-critical alarm: Green

Ground of alarm circuit: Black

Ground of alarm circuit: White

After the alarm output wires is properly connected, the alarm signals should
be sent to external alarm equipments (such as column-head cabinet) to
drive its acousto-optic indicator. So obviously the extenal alarm equipment
should have the function of shutting down the alarm sound.

2.2.6 Test Alarm Reporting from Subrack to the Top of Cabinet

Self-loopback all the optical interfaces of LU, then the red indicator at the
top of cabinet should die. If one self-loopback tail fiber is broken down, the
red indicator will light again accompanying alarm sound. (For multi-optical
interface aggregate unit the traffic must be deployed, otherwise the optical
interface with no traffic will not report LOS alarm even in cace of fiber cut.)

2.3 Power-on Testing of Subrack

After the above examinations are completed and all are normal, open the
power switch of corresponding subrack. There are two switches for each
subrack, which should both be switched on. The power switch for unused
subrack must be OFF. For example, if only the lower subrack is used,
switch on the two LOWERSUBRACK switches and keep the
UPPERSUBRACK switches OFF.

2.3.1 Examine the running of fan

Power on the fan subrack immediately after two power switches for subrack
is switched on, and check the running status of fan.

Fan subrack is requisite For OptiX155/622 and OptiX2500+ equipment.

There are three green indicators on the front panel of currently using fan
subrack, each indicates the running status of one fan,and in normal status
the three indicators should all be ON. There is also a red alarm indicator on
the front panel, which will be bright when any of the three fans is faulty.

Check whether the three green indicator are ON and the red alarm indicator
is OFF. Detect the upper and lower parts of subrack by hand, there should
be wind blowing (please note not to touch fan). It is necessary to
demonstrate how to clean the dust filter mesh of fan to the customer's
maintenance personnel, and emphasize the importance of periodic cleaning
with the period of 2-4 times every month.

2.3.2 Observe the running indicator and alarm indicator of units

Generally the OptiX equipment are provisioned before shipment, so each
unit should come into operation after subrack is powered on for 2~3
minutes.

After a unit is in service, the running indicator (green) should flash in the
frequency of 1s on and 1s off. If there exists a alarm, the alarm indicator
(red) should also flash in the frequency of 1~3 times every other second. If
the indicator of a unit is OFF or ALWAYS ON, it indicates that this unit is not
inserted properly, there is a fault in hardware or there is a toppled pin on
motherboard. First check whether there is a toppled pin on motherboard,

2-9
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

then check the unit, and replace the unit after you are sure of a hardware
fault of it.

If a unit doesn't come into operation, you can pull and plug it first. If the
problem is not solved, there might be the loss of configuration data of SCC
unit or the failure of board's mailbox. Download configuration data again, if
the problem remains, replace this unit or SCC.

2.3.3 When the Optical Aggregate Unit is Looped Back, its Alarm Indicator
Should be OFF.
For single optical interface aggregate unit, the alarm indicator should flash 3
times every other second indicating critical alarm due to loss of signal. After
the interface is looped back, the alarm indicator should be OFF, showing
this aggregate unit is normal in the main.

For aggregate unit with multiple optical interfaces, no alarm will be reported
if no traffic is distributed to the optical interface. In this case, assign traffics
to all optical interfaces, then the indicator of this unit should flash 3 times
every other second. Loopback all the optical interfaces, and the indicator
should come into OFF.

Attenuator may be needed when looping back the optical interface,

otherwise the alarm indicator will still be ON bacause of optical power
overloading, or even damage the optical module.

If the alarm indicator is still ON, examine the unit and check the optical
power. If the alarm indicator doesn't flash 3 times every other second, the
optical interface is generally normal. If it flashes 2 times, it may be the
AUAIS, AULOP or HPLOM alarm due to no source of signal.

2.3.4 Examine the State of PMU and Communication Via Serial Port

1. Examine the running state of PMU

SS02PMU is adopted in SS03PBS at the top of cabinet, and there are also
running indicator (green), alarm indicator (red) on the front panel of it. After
the cabinet is powered on for 1~2 minutes, the running indicator should
flash in the frequency of 1s on/1s off, indicating normal running state. The
red indicator only indicates the alarm of power box instead of the subrack,
which is different from SS01PMU.

2. PMU toggle switch setting

There is a 4-bit toggle switch on PMU, and its position at PMU unit is
illustrated in Figure 2-5:

Figure 2-5 the position of toggle switch at PMU

The 4-bit toggle switch is shown in Figure 2-6:

ON

1 2 3 4
Figure 2-6 4-bit toggle switch

There is no need to touch bit 1,3,4 of the toggle switch. Bit 2 indicates
whether the PMU communicates with upper subrack or lower subrack,
toggling to ON indicates the communication with lower subrack, toggling to
OFF indicates the communication with upper subrack.Check whether the
settings of these four bits are in compliance with the actual situation.

If you want to modify the setting of this toggle switch, please pull out PMU
unit first, then modify the switch setting, and then plug in the unit. SS02PMU
is hot-pluggable, so it can automatically come into operaiton without
deplayment after it's plugged in, and finally it's needed to create this unit in
NMS interface.

3. Check the serial port communication of PMU

Use the command ":ptp:bid,10,0;" to query the version of PMU, where "bid"
stands for the board position of PMU. As for OptiX155/622/2500+
equipment, the board opsition of PMU is 28 ( 1c in hexadecimal); and for
OptiX2500+ the board position is 19 (13 in hexadecimal). If this command
returns proper result, the seial port communication is normal in the main.

2-11
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

Also the status of serial port communication can be estimated through

executing "clear rack alarm" in NMS and checking the indicator status at top
of the cabinet.

2.3.5 Testing ALC Switch on SCC Unit

The ALC switch on SCC unit is a switch used to mute audio alarm, usually,
ALC switch should be in upper position. When an critical alarm is generated
(the alarm indicator on the board flashs 3 times every other second) on a
board in subrack, the buzzer at the top of rack will ring. Now move the ALC
switch downward, the buzzer will stop ringing several seconds later. Then
move the ALC switch upward, the buzzer will not ring until a new critical
alarm is generated. (the alarm sound is in alarm-trigger mode)

Remember to move the ALC switch upward finally.

If the ALC switch is moved downward and the alarm buzzer still rings,
check whether the settings of PMU toggle switches are proper (whether in
communication with corresponding subrack), and check the configuration of
PMU board in NMS (when there are two subracks in one cabinet, if the
PMU toggle switch is set to communicate with lower subrack, PMU board
should be created in the lower subrack's board position window in NMS).

As for 155/622H,set the alarm cut-off switch on the front of the casing to ON
and meanwhile the alarm cut-off switch on the back of the casing other than
ALMCUT.In this case,if the red or yellow alarm indicator is on,the alrm
sound can be heard.Set the alarm cut-off switch on the front of the casing to
OFF or set the alarm cut-off switch on the back of the casing to ALMCUT
and the alarm sound will be cut-off.Note that if the alarm switch is on,the
casing will let out the alarm sound whether there is an alarm until the alarm
is gone or the alarm is cut off.

2.3.6 Examine RST Pushbutton and ETN Indicator on SCC Unit

The RST pushbutton on SCC unit is a Reset button, the SCC unit will be
reset if this button is pressed. After 2~3 minutes, the resetting will complete
and the SCC unit will be in normal service again, with the running indicator
flashs 1s on/1s off.

The ETN indicator on SCC unit is the Ethernet communication indicator

(yellow). If the yellow indicator is OFF, it indicates that NE is not properly
connected to NMS terminal via UTP; if the yellow indicator is ON, it
indicates that NE is in connection with NMS terminal normally, and if the
yellow indicator flashs, it indicates that there is data transmission through
the Ethernet interface of SCC unit.

2-12
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

As for 155/622H,The RST key on the SCB board is a reset key.Press this
key to reset the SCC unit.Reset is complete 2-3 minutes later and the board
enters a normal operation status. The indicator blinks one time per
second. The ETN indicator on the SCB is an Ethernet indicator(a yellow
indicator).Dark yellow indicator indicates the NE is not connected to NM by
cable;Luminent yellow indicator shows the NE is normanlly connected to
NM;blinking yellow indicator means there are data being transmitted on the
network.

During the test, connect the portable computer to the Ethernet interface of
OptiX equipment, this ETN indicator should be ON. When there is data
transmission between SCC unit and portable computer, this ETN indicator
flashs.

2.3.7 Set the Ring Switch of Order-wire Telephone to ON

The ring switch of order-wire telephone should be set to ON, in case that
the telephone does not ring when there is an incoming order-wire call,
which will result in the wrong judgment that a fault occurs to order-wire unit.

The dialing mode switch of order-wire telephone should be set to T (DTMF).

2.3.8 Check whether Order-wire Telephone Has a Dialing Tone

Pick the order-wire telephone off the shelf, press talk key, the red indicator
above talk key on order-wire telephone will be ON, and a dialing tone can
be heard, now the order-wire is in off-hook status. Press talk key again, the
red indicator of order-wire telephone set should be OFF (on-hook).

If there's no dial-tone, maybe the order-wire parameters is not configured.

Check the configuration of order-wire.

Please note that the connector of order-wire telephone is generally plugged

in the PHONE1 socket of wiring area of subrack, and dial mode switch of
telephone is set to T (DTMF).

2.4 Configuration and Commissioning

2.4.1 Setting and Connection of NMS terminal
1) Prepare a cross-connected UTP cable with RJ45 connectors (8-core),
which connecting mode is 1--3 and 2--6.

The method of observing RJ45 connector is as follows: put the side with
pins upward and let the cable in your side, the numbers of pins from left to
right are 1~8 respectively. The connections of cross-connected UTP cable
and standard UTP cable are as illustrated in Figure 2-7:

2) On the desktop of portable computer, right-click Network Neighborhood,

select Attribute, double click TCP/IP--> Network card in the window popped
up. Here, the network card should refer to the specific network card model.
In the window popped up, select IP address, then select Specify IP address,
input 129.9.0.254 in IP address field, input 255.255.0.0 in Subnet mask
code field, then click OK. Restart the computer by following the prompt.

In the portable computer, install SBS Navigator programme, and create the
shortcut icon named SBS Navigator on the desktop. Install the NES
matching with the NE software, and create the shortcut icon named SBS
NES on the desktop.

Connect the network interface of portable computer to the Ethernet interface

of NE with a cross-connected UTP cable, now the yellow ETN indicator on
SCC unit should be ON, so is the green indicator of network card of
portable computer. Input command "ping NE IP address" (the format of "NE
IP address" is generally 129.9.0.N, N accord with NE ID number) in MS-
DOS mode, if "Reply from xxxxxx" is returned, it indicates that the
connection between computer and NE is established.

3) If the NMS terminal is SUN workstation, the subnet mask code will
appear on the screen while power-on, make sure it's 255.255.0.0. Then
enter CDE environment using superuser's identity, open the TERMINAL
windows, and input "#vi /etc/hosts" command to check whether the IP of
this workstation is like 129.9.0.X. If the IP is not like this, modify the hosts
file as follows:

#vi /etc/hosts

Modify the IP address which is in the same line with "SYBASE loghost" into
the determined IP of workstation as 129.9.0.X. Notice that maybe the hosts

2-14
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

file is a read-only file, you need to use "#chmod 777 filename" command to
modify its attribute into writeable.

Moreover, the interfaces file also need to be modified, otherwise the

database will fail to start-up. As for how to modify the IP and subnet mask of
workstation, refering to relative articles as centralized network management
configuration.

After all the items checked and modified, input command "ping NE IP
address" in TERMINAL window. If "alive" is returned , it indicates that the
connection between workstation NMS terminal and NE is normal.

4) After the connection between NMS terminal and OptiX network element
is properly established, run "SBS Navigator" software and click <retrieve>
button to search for IP of NE. Normally the NE IP will emerge on the "NE IP
address" window and if it doesn't emerge, input the IP manually. Then click
<connect> to enter the MML dialog box. If there's "ready" in the nethermost
status bar of the dialog box, the connection is normal, otherwise the
examination of items mentioned above is necessary.

In special networking application, the IP of NE is set with no accordance

with NE ID before shipment. Under this circumstance, you need to check
whether there's "Special Declarations of IP setting" in shipping documents
(floppy disk), and if not, login this NE from other NEs through ECC channel,
to query or modify this NE's IP and submask. The relative commands are
as follows:

Query IP of NE: :cm-get-ip;

Modify IP of NE: :cm-set-ip: IP of NE;

Modify submask of NE: :cm-set-submask:255.255.0.0;

In common application, the IP of NE takes the default value of "0.0.0.0" ,

i.e., the IP varies according to NE ID. Keep this default setting. As for the
application that NE IP needs to be modified, refer to the file centralized
network management configuration.

2.4.2 Check the Software Version

After the connection between NMS terminal and NE is established, check
whether the versions of board software, FPGA, NE software and BIOS are
in compliance with each other, through NMS or SBS Navigator.

Then, compare these versions with those listed in shipping list and its
appending software version table. If the same, record these versions in
engineering technical documents after the shipping list and its appending
software version table. If the defferent, record these versions after the

2.4.3 Download Single Station Test File

1. Create batch files for single station test

Create files (text files or *.cmd files) for single station test in the portable
computer. The so-called files for single station test refer to the files for
testing a series performances of single station such as the performance of
the installed tributary unit, the performance of motherboard, the correctness
and reliability of connectings between PDH ports of OptiX equipment and
DDF, and the switching reliability etc.

The principle of creating a single station test file is: Configure the traffics to
cover all the allocated units and all the data buses. The details are as
follows:

(1) All the PDH ports of all the allocated tributary interface units should be
configured with traffic for test.

(2) Traffic configured for test should cover all the data buses of every line
interface units.

There are two configuration schemes according to the two principles above:
One is to concentrate the traffics of all PDH ports to one VC4 of one LU,
then configure all the VC4 of all LU in series, to test all the VC4 of LUs. In
this scheme, the configuration should be in accordance with the loopback of
optical interfaces ,and this scheme is called " VC4 in series method ".

Another scheme is called "Average traffic method " and is recommended to

use. Its cotent is: configure VC12 traffic averagely from each VC4 of each
LU to TUs, covering all the PDH ports to test all the data buses of LUs and
all the PDH ports. For example: there are two S16 allocated in IU5 and IU6
board position of OptiX2500+ to constitute ADM PP ring, and only one PD1
allocated in IU1. The single station test file needs to be two according to the
following method. The content of first file is:

Configure 4 VC12 traffics of the first VC4 of STM-16 PP ring, to 1~4 ports of
PD1, 4 VC12 traffics of the second VC4 to 5~8 ports......, and 4 VC12
traffics of the eighth VC4 to 31~32 ports of PD1. This test file covers all the
existing PDH ports and 1~8 data buses of two S16.

As for the second test file, configure the VC12 traffics of 9~16 VC4s of the
ring to 32 ports of PD1, to test 9~16 data buses of two S16s. Two files are
requested only because the traffics from S16 to VC12 cross-connect metrix
must be within 16 VC4s.

2-16
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

(3) All the data buses of LUs of every logic system should be covered if
there are more than one logic system. For example, S16s of IU5 and IU6
constitute a PP logic system, S16 of IU7 constitutes a LINE logic system,
then configure the traffics of these 3 optical interface units to TUs or SD1s,
to cover all the data buses of these 3 units for test.

(4) No matter the final configuration of this NE is PP ADM RING, or MSP

ADM RING, or NOPR ADM LINE, the single station test file should always
take the PP ADM RING configuration.

The advantage is not only the path protection function of TUs can be tested,
but also the performances of active bus and standby bus on LUs and TUs
can be tested, so the testing paths are most complete.

(5) For the TM configuration of OptiX155/622/2500+ equipment, the single

station test files are also recommended to be PP ADM RING. During the
test, first loopback the LU to test, then plug this optical interface unit into
another board position of ADM configuration for testing.

For the TM configuration of OptiX155/622H, there is not such a

requirement. Just make the test according to TM configurations.

(6) If there are OptiX2500+ main subrack and extended subrack, test the
main subrack and extended subrack as a whole. Download the test file to
main subrack and extended subrack covering all PDH ports and all data
buses, then loopback the optical interfaces on main subrack, test the
tributary paths on main subrack and extended subrack. If main subrack
connects other equipment via SDH interfaces, test these interfaces using
SDH tester.

Create single station test files test according to the allocated units of each
station. The sample files can be seen in each OptiX equipment's special
items of single station commissioning.

2. Send test files

On the desktop of portable computer, double click the shortcut icon

Navigator to pop up a dialog box, click File menu, select New command line
in the menu, then click Retrieve in the window popped up, the IP address
129.9.0.X: 1400 of NE in this station will appear in NE IP Address, where X
is the ID number of this station; if the IP address 129.9.0.X: 1400 does not
appear in NE IP Address, 129.9.0.X: 1400 should be input manually. Then
click connect, input run in the input box of the dialog box popped up, then
press Enter. Select the test files for this station, the system will
prompt ( yes/no/all) at the end of the first line, input Y, wait for a few
seconds till the system returns szhw> in output box, then continue to input Y

2-17

to execute the next command..., (the executions of some commands take a

long time, each command can not be continued until szhw> is returned),
and execute all statements in turn. If the system returns execute fail bit
error=0xXXXX immediately after a command is sent, it indicates the failure
of sending command, please find out the error cause. If the system
executes each command in turn till the last one is executed and the system
returns nestate is :running in output box, it indicates the successful sending.
If installing is returned, it indicates the failure, and there might be some
problems in test files.

3. Observe in-service status of board

After the provisioning are completed, if the configuration commands are

correct, respective boards should be in normal service, and the states of
their indicators should be 1s ON/1s OFF. If the green indicator on a board is
not ON, it indicates that this board is not inserted properly or there is
something wrong with hardware.

2.4.4 Test Optical Interface Parameter

1. Test output optical power

Testing instrument: optical power meter (1 set)

Testing method: connect the optical power meter according to Figure3-1.

Before the test, you should use alcohol tampon or lens paper to clean tail
fiber head and flange carefully. If the tail fiber is already connected to ODF
rack, the test should be made at the side of ODF. Test the output optical
power of respective units, please be cautious to select the corresponding
wave lengths. Record the test result in Single Station commission Record
Table. Compare the test result with the corresponding index (see
Acceptance Manual), if the test result does not accord with the index, the
cause should be found out until the test passes. After the testing, the
customer's thchnical staff is required to sign for confirming the recorded
results.

For the testing method, you can also refer to Acceptance Manual.

2. Test optical receiving sensitivity

Testing instrument: bit error detector (1 set), variable optical attenuator (1

set) and optical power meter (1 set)

Testing method: Connect variable attenuator in series in optical path of self-

loop, and set the attenuation grade of the variable attenuator to 0, then
connect the 2M interface to be tested in series with a self-loop cable (that is,
connect the RXs in the upper row with the TXs in the lower row end to end
on D75/E75 coaxial connector assembly, as illustrated in Figure 2-9, if DDF
rack is available, make the series connection at the side of DDF rack), use
the bit error detector to test the series connected 2M interface, there should
be no bit error (it might be blocked due to overloading of optical power, and
it should be normal after optical attenuation value is increased). Then
increase the attenuation value of the optical attenuator step by step till an bit
error appears, then decrease the attenuation value just when there is no bit
error .Observe for at least 10 minutes and make sure there is no bit error
any more. Then pull out the tail fiber head of the optical-receiving interface
on the optical interface unit and connect it to the optical power meter, read
the receiving optical power, i. e., optical receiving sensitivity. Record the
test result in Single Station commission Record Table. Compare the test
result with the corresponding index (see Acceptance Manual), if the test
result does not accord with the index, the cause should be found out until
the test passes. After the testing, the customer's thchnical staff is required
to sign for confirming the recorded results.

For the testing method, you can also refer to Acceptance Manual.

3. Testing overload optical power (It is tested if necessary)

The method of testing overload point: the connection of instrument is the

same as that of Testing optical receiving sensitivity. First adjust the
attenuator till there is no bit error in the bit error detector, then decrease the
attenuation value till bit error appears, then increase the attenuation value
till the bit error just disappears, record the optical power, i. e., overload
optical power. Check whether it passes with reference to the index, if the
test result does not accord with the index, the cause should be found out
until the test passes. After the testing, the customer's thchnical staff is
required to sign for confirming the recorded results.

For the testing method, you can also refer to Acceptance Manual.

4. Actual receiving optical power of this station

At the OptiX optical interface unit side, measure the actual receiving optical
power sent from the opposite station, record the result in single station
commission record table. The actual receiving optical power must meet the
following demands:

· The actual receiving optical power measured at the receiving interface

side of OptiX optical boards, must be 3dB's larger than the sensitivity index
of this optical board, and 5dB's less than its overloading index. The ITU-T
classification code of OptiX optical interface boards can be refered to
relative files, and the indexes of these boards with different classification
code can be refered to Technical Manual.

· If the actual receiving optical power is too small, check whether the
fiber cable is too long, or the optical connector is not in good connection
(including dirt on connector) , or the attenuation of fiber cable is too large. If

2-20
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

the attenuation is too large, suggest the customer to solve the problem. If
the transmission distance is too long for optical interface unit, then judge
whether the surveyed distance has mistake or the allocation of optical
interface unit is mistaken, then feedback this information to company, and
think upon changing optical interface unit or add optical amplifer unit.

· As for the actual receiving optical power is too large, from Sep of 2000,
the principle of allocating attenuator before shipment is specified for
OptiX155/622 and OptiX2500+, according to the surveyed fiber cable
distance. In most cases, it can meet the need of on-site application. If
there's only several optical interface unit which receiving optical power is
too large, apply for the attenuators from the branch office, to ensure the
receiving optical power meets the request. If the attenuators are far less for
the optical units and transmission distance, feecback the information to
company for settlement according to specified flow.

· In principle, the optical attenuator is embedded in the ODF at the

receiving station to replace flange. Make sure the attenuator is marked in
ODF with a label, and the corresponding tail fiber is marked with "attenuator
added" too. If the outline border of flange is circular, it can't be embedded in
ODF, use another tail fiber to connect the attenuator.

Attention: the acual receiving optical power must be in the aforesaid range
when commissioning. As for the maintenance of in-service equipments, if
the mismatch of optical power is found, it must be settled too.

5. Check the attenuation of fiber cable and tail fiber via optical power
measurement

· Check the attenuation of fiber cable

Measure the actual receiving optical power at ODF. Compare this power
and the output optical power of adjacent NE, and refer to the standard value
of fiber cable's attenuaiton, to estimate whether the attenuation of this fiber
cable is too large. If so, suggest the customer to find out the fault point and
solve it. Never to leave it aside only because the traffic is OK.

· Check the attenuator of tail fiber

Measure the receiving optical power at ODF and optical unit side. The
comparison of these two values should be less than 1.5dB. If not so, the tail
fiber can be judged not OK, when the fault of optical connector is
eliminated and the tail fiber is not tied up too tight. In this case, thange the
tail fiber according to specified flow. If the attenuation of tail fiber is
excessive due to too tight colligation, the layout of tail fiber must be
modified.

Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

5. Testing other items (when necessary)

Including the allowed frequency deviation at optical input interface, jitter

tolerance at STM-N input interface and the output jitter at STM-N output
interface.

If these projects or part of them should be tested according to the final

acceptance requirements mutually reached by both parties, the tests should
be completed during single station commissioning, and the customer's
thchnical staff is required to sign for confirming the recorded results.

2.4.5 Testing Connection/Disconnection of All Electrical Interfaces and 100%

Correctness of Distributions
If the 2M interface of OptiXequipment is not connected to DDF rack of the
equipment Buyer, the connection/disconnection of all electrical interfaces
should be tested at E75/D75 side of OptiX, now you should be cautious not
to hurt the pin of SMB male head. If the 2M interface is connected to
customer's DDF rack, 100% correctness of distributions of trunk cable
layout should also be tested, these two tests can be done in combination.

100% correctness of distributions is tested after the cable is connected to

both OptiX equipment and DDF rack properly. Please note that OptiX
equipment should be switched off during cable layout. When a DDF
connector head is made, the connection between E75/D75 and trunk cable
at OptiX equipment side should be cut off first, meanwhile, the electric iron
must be grounded, in order to prevent the electric iron from leaking
electricity and burning the circuit board.

After sending files for single station test, enter OptiX Network Management
System in the portable computer, create NE, and set it as network gateway
NE, then perform Configuration data uploading, refer to OptiXMN NES
Operation Manual for details. Have the receiving/sending optical interface of
the optical interface board self-looped, refer to the optical interface self-loop
method in Testing Path Protection switching Function for details. Then
connect the bit error detector to the first 2M interface of DDF rack (or
E75/D75), now the bit error detector alarm should disappear (if the alarm
does not disappear, try to interchange the receiving and sending ends of bit
error detector). Then set the first 2M interface to Remote loop back (in-loop)
in the network management, now the bit error detector should give an
alarm, indicating it is actually the first 2M interface that the bit error detector
is connected with. Then test the second 2M interface similarly, and proceed
in turn till all 2M interfaces are tested. Please note that all 2M interfaces
must be set to Not loop back after the test.

2-22
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

The final test result must ensure that the connection/disconnection of 2M

interface in OptiX equipment are all normal (the cable is connected reliably,
there are no short circuit and broken circuit), the 2M interfaces at OptiX side
and those on DDF rack correspond to each other one by one, and the
receiving/sending sequences of each 2M interface on DDF rack are
consistent. If a fault occurs, you should do the test after troubleshooting.

Please note that both connection and disconnection states should be tested,
so as to prevent traffic from looping back or prevent cable from cross-
connecting. That is, when Remote loop back is not set, there is no alarm in
the meter (connection); after Remote loop back is set, an alarm is
generated in the meter (disconnection).

Testing 2M cable on the extended subrack:

On the common extended subrack, since there is no STG board, the bit
error detector will give an alarm if you have receiving/sending SL2 board
self-looped to test 2M signal. Although the test can be done if you have
tributary looped back locally, the equipment in subrack can not be tested
thoroughly since signals only pass through a part of tributary board.

Testing method: have the optical interface on main subrack self-looped. The
faulty boards in single station can be cleared basically in this testing
method.

For PL3, PL4, SE1 and SE2 boards, if the equipped instrument can not do
the test, they can be looped back on DDF rack to view whether LOS alarm
disappear. But the system commissioning test of the network must be done.

2.4.6 Path Protection Switching Function Test

1. Forced switching test by pulling out tail fiber

Connect 2M bit error test instrument (or the 2M electricity interface of SDH
test instrument) and D75 coaxial connector assemblies in the following
mode, the connecting lines in the coaxial connector assemblies are
connected in series, as illustrated in Figure 3-3: (connect to DDF rack if the
rack is available)

Connect the bit error detector to D75 board or DDF rack in the mode
illustrated in Figure 3-3 for bit error testing. You should observe for 1~2
minutes, and there should be no bit error. (Note: if TSE flashs occasionally,
(i. e., there is few bit errors), you can divide the coaxial connector
assemblies into two segments, each segment is connected with 8
tributaries in series for testing, it is required that no error appears after the
segment is tested for 1~2 minutes). Disconnect the optical fiber (active ring)
between W←E (IN of W and OUT of E), the alarm indicator of the bit error
detector should be OFF after flashing once, simultaneously, PS protection
switching alarm of tested 2M interface can be queried from NMS, indicating

the protection switching function is normal. Observe for 1~2 minutes, there
should be no bit error.

Connect the optical fiber between W←E properly till there is no alarm on
both W and E optical interface boards. Then disconnect the optical fiber
(standby ring) between W→E (OUT of W and IN of E), the alarm indicator
of the bit error detector should be OFF after flashing once, simultaneously,
PS protection switching alarm of the tested 2M interface in NMSshould end,
indicating the ending of protection switching. Observe for 1~2 minutes,
there should be no bit error.

2. switching recovery test

Disconnect the optical fiber in active ring, after traffics are switched over to
standby ring, connect the optical fiber in active ring properly till there is no
alarm on optical interface board, now you should not perform any operation
on the optical fiber on standby ring. After 10 minutes, the alarm indicator of
the bit error detector should be OFF after flashing once, simultaneously, PS
protection switching alarm of the tested 2M interface in NMS should end,
indicating the protection switching is recovered normally.

2.4.7 Testing bit error in Active/Standby Ring

1. Testing bit error in active ring

Connect the optical fiber in active ring (receiving from west and sending to
east), disconnect the optical fiber in standby ring, test the bit error for 10
minutes, there should be 0 bit error.

2. Testing bit error in standby ring

Disconnect the optical fiber in active ring, connect the optical fiber in
standby ring (receiving from east and sending to west), test the bit error for
10 minutes, there should be 0 bit error.

2.4.8 Testing Items of Other PDH Interfaces

Including the allowed frequency deviation at PDH input interface, jitter
tolerance at PDH input interface and the output jitter at PDH output
interface. If these items or part of them should be tested according to the
final acceptance requirements mutually reached by both parties, the tests
should be completed during single station commissioning, and the
customer's thchnical staff is required to sign for confirming the recorded
results.

2.4.9 Test the interrupt report and passing through of K bytes

For all OptiX155/622 and OptiX2500+ equipment, the test of interrupt report
and passing through of K bytes is requested while single station
commissioning,while OptiX155/622 is not necessary.

Before test, check whether the emergency interrupt auto report of K bytes
from west and east optical interface units to SCC is activated:

:ptp:5,12,99; ( For aggregate unit with multiple optical interfaces, the

number of optical interface is needed: :ptp:5,12,99,1)

:ptp:6,12,99;

If the return value is "1", the interrupt report is activated, otherwise the value
should be set to be "1". The setting command is:

:ptp:5,99,1; (For aggregate unit with multiple optical interfaces, the

number of optical interface is needed: :ptp:5,99,1,1)

1. Test the interrupt report of K bytes

Take the test of westward S16 in board position 5 as a example, first

loopback the optical interface of this unit, then operate as follows:

1) Execute the following command to activate the interrupt report of

westward S16:

:apsc-set-mbrep:5,true;

2) Insert K1, K2 bytes respectively as "1" and "2" into westward S16: (of
course other legal K1 and K2 bytes are available)

:apsc-ptp:5,92,1,2;

Note: this test should cover the test of last 3 bits of K2 byte, for example: for
the first time run the above command with K bytes of "1" and "2"; the
second time with K bytes of "1" and "3", using this method the test whether
the hardware process of last 3 bits of K2 byte is normal.

More inportant: if insert the same K bytes twice using the command above,
the K bytes inserted for the second time will not be reported automatically.
Only when the latter inserted K bytes is different from the former, they will
be automatically reported.

3) check whether there's interrupt report in command line output windows

as follows:

EMERGENCY INTERRUPT AUTOREP

2-26
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

BID PARA
COUNT

5 0xa5 0x29 0x01 0x02 0xff 0x55 0xaa 0x03 1

This report shows that the westward S16 actually received K1 and K2
bytes as "01" and "02". Because of the loopback of westward S16, the
sent K bytes are received by itself, so the received K1 and K2 bytes
should be the same as sent, and should be able to automatically report.
In this case, the rest result is normal.

If there's no interrupt report, check whether the S16 receives the

inserted K bytes using command ":ptp:bid,12,93". If this command
returns correct result, it can be concluded that only the interrupt report of
K bytes from S16 to SCC have problem, the sending and receiving of K
bytes are normal. The fault may lie in SCC, or optical interface unit, or
NE software. If the correct K bytes still can not be queried out using
command "93", there's something wrong with the sending or receiving K
bytes of S16. Replace this S16.

The format of interrupt auto report of K bytes: 0X29+ K1 byte + K2 byte +

optical port number(if there's only one optical port in the unit, the value is
0XFF) + 0X55 +0XAA

The format of queried result of K bytes: 0X99+ K1 byte + K2 byte + optical

port number(if there's only one optical port in the unit, the value is 0XFF)
+ 0X55 +0XAA

4) Insert other K1 and K2 bytes for test. If the interrupt reported K1 and K2
bytes are the same as the sent, this test of westward s16 is passed.

According to the same steps, test the K bytes interrupt report of eastward
S16 (board position 6) , and check whether its reporting time is normal.

2-27
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

2. Test the passing through of K bytes

[test the passing through of K bytes of westward optical board]

1) First loopback the westward and eastward optical board, then execute
the following command to activate the interrupt report of westward S16:

:apsc-set-mbrep:5,true;

2) Set the westward S16 into the state of K byte pass through:

:apsc-ptp:5,91,1;

If the westward optical board is in K byte pass through state, it will send the
K bytes received by eastward optical board directly, i.e., the eastward
optical board will send its receiving K bytes not only to SCC unit, but also to
westward optical board, and the westward board sends these K bytes out.

3) Insert K1, K2 bytes respectively as "1" and "2" into eastward S16:

:apsc-ptp:6,92,1,2;

After this command is executed, there should have interrupt auto report of
K1 and K2 bytes from westward optical board, the report result is already
illustrated in step 3 of "1. Test the interrupt report of K bytes".

The theory of this test is:first the eastward optical board sends the inserted
K bytes out, then via the eastward loopback tail fiber, the K bytes are
received by the eastward optical board itself. Because of the passing
through of westward optical board, the eastward board broadcast its
received K bytes to westward board, and westward board sends these K
bytes. Also because the westward optical board is looped back, it receives
these K bytes, and activate the interrupt auto report.

4) Insert K1 and K2 bytes as "3,4", "5,5" and "6,0" into the eastward optical
board, check whether the K bytes interrupt report of westward board is
normal.

[test the passing through of K bytes of eastward optical board]

The operation is similar to "test the passing through of K bytes of westward

optical board".

1) First loopback eastward and westward optical board, and activate the K
byte interrupt auto report of eastward optical board.

2-28
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

2) deactivate the passing through of westward optical board, and activate

the passing through of eastward:

deactivate: :apsc-ptp:5,91,0

activate: :apsc-ptp:6,91,1

3) Then insert K bytes into westward board, examine the interrupt report of
eastward.

After test, the K byte interrupt report of eastward and westward optical
board must be deactivated:

:apsc-set-mbrep:5,false;

:apsc-set-mbrep:6,false;

In addition, the K byte passing through of eastward and westward optical

board must be cleared:

:apsc-ptp:5,91,0;

:apsc-ptp:6,91,0;

2.4.10 Test blank board positions, for NEs of head office or those with the
possibility of extension
The purpose of this test, is to check whether the pins of each blank board
position and its corresponding D75/E75 are normal, and whether the data
buses of all board position are normal.

1) In test file, configure TUs for all possible tributary board position, and
configure traffics to the 2M paths of each TU. For those actually allocated
TUs, test whether the traffic of each 2M path is normal. For those blank
board positions which are configured with TUs, insert TUs and D75/E75
from other board position, and proceed the test mentioned above.

Be caution to pull out or plug in board according to specification, to aviod

defleciton of pins. Make sure the pins of D75/E75 socket are not short
circuited. ( the screwdriver laid on subrack is very probable to short circuit
the pins of D75/E75!)

2) The principle of test file is similar to the single station test file, section "1.
Create batch files for single station test" can be refered.

For OptiX2500+ subrack, all the data buses can be tested via inserting SQ1
in board position 1 and 14, and inserting SL4 or S16 in other position.

2-29
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 2 Equipment Commissioning
Chapter 2 Single Station Commissioning of SDH
Equipment – General Items

3) On commissioning site, the test of SDH interfaces may be unavailable

due to the lack of SDH analyzer, or the mismatch of interface. In this case,
configure 2M traffics downstream to TUs of extended subrack passing
through the SL2 in main subrack, then the data buses of main subrack can
be checked via testing the 2M traffics in extended subrack. The traffic
configuration of test file can be created according to the allocation of units,
the test instrument and the level of tested signal, the principle is to cover all
the data buses of main subrack.

2.4.11 Monitor NE Performance and Alarms (If Time Permits)

1) Have the tributary signals (2M, 34M and 139M) self-looped on the DDF,
there should be no signal lost on the tributary unit.

2) Set performance monitoring in network management, observe the

performance data as long as possible (24 hours), with minimum of 2 hours.
The performance data should be normal (e. g., the bit error rate and the
point adjustment should be 0, the temperature performance data should be
in normal range).

3) During performance monitoring, the NE alarm should also be viewed

periodically, there should be no unknown alarm.

4) If any problem appears during the test, you should do the test after the
problem is solved.

2.4.12 Download Actual provision File to test

Write the actual provision files of respective stations according to
networking and traffic distribution, which should be ready at the primary
stage of deployment and debugging.

After the single station commissioning is performed in this station, the final
provisioning files of this station should be downloaded for a test:

1) Observe alarm, there should be no unidentified alarm;

2) The sample test of connection/disconnection of electricity interface

should be made to verify the correctness of the final configuration files.

2.4.13 Other Work

1. Backup databases of NE software

After the final configurations are sent, the NE software databases should be
backed up. Backup can be implemented via NMS, or the following
commands:

:dbms-backup-all:fdb0;

2. test ECC in this station

This test means that all NEs in the station should be able to log in to each
other when there are multiple NEs (such as a main subrack and several
extended subracks) in a station.

The conditions that the ECC between the main subrack and extended
subrack is blocked often appear since the optical fiber is connected
improperly or the settings are incorrect, which must be solved during single
station debugging, otherwise, it will waste time and energy when this station
is connected with.

3. Active/standby board switchover test

If active/standby cross-connect units are allocated, the switchover between

the them should be tested.

If active/standby synchronous timging units are allocated, the switchover

between them should be tested.

4. Test recovering reliability from loss of power of single station

1) This station is powered on after it is powered off for 10 minutes, all units
should be in normal service and no manual intervention is necessary.

2) This station is powered on after it is powered off for 10 minutes, all

traffics should be in normal service. Now you should have the optical
interface board self-looped again, and make a sample test of typical traffic
to ensure smooth traffic.

5. Others

1) Make sure the ALC switch on SCC unit is upward before you leave this
station.

2) Before you leave this station, make sure the ring switch of order-wire
telephone is set to ON, in order to avoid that the telephone does not ring,
which results in the wrong judgment that a fault occurs to order-wire unit,
when there is an incoming order-wire call. Simultaneously, make sure the
talk key of order-wire telephone is shut down, so as to avoid that the order-
wrie telephone is always in off-hook status, resulting that the order-wire
calls of other stations can not get through.

3) Please be cautious to remove all the self-looped optical fiber and the
software loopback settings in the system which might be left during the test.

4) Ensure the fan is in normal running status before leave.
