ALANUNAY’S LAW FIRM

(Phone Ringing)

Dayne: Alanunay’s Law Firm, good morning. Dayne Grace, the receptionist, speaking. How
may I assist you today?

As a receptionist, it is my responsibility to greet clients and other visitors, handle incoming and
outgoing mail, manage package pickup and receipts, answer the main office telephone, and
transfer all incoming calls to the appropriate party. I also maintain a log book to track visitors'
incoming and outgoing times and reasons for their visits. Additionally, I handle general
inquiries about the office and guide visitors to the main office area.

Lou: Good morning, Miss Dayne. I lost my ID yesterday, and I need an affidavit of loss. Is there
an attorney available right now?

Dayne: Absolutely, ma’am. Attorney Alanunay is on duty at the moment.

Lou: What time will the attorney be available?

Dayne: Just a moment, ma'am. Let me check with our legal secretary.

Dayne: Excuse me, Ms. Secretary, may I know what time Attorney Alanunay is available?

Rose: Just a moment, I will check.

The legal secretary plays a crucial role in the smooth functioning of a law firm or legal
department by providing comprehensive administrative support. Responsibilities encompass a
wide range of tasks vital to the efficient operation of legal proceedings, including drafting and
preparing legal documents such as correspondence, contracts, pleadings, and court filings,
ensuring that these documents adhere to specific legal formatting and procedural requirements.
In addition to document preparation, legal secretaries manage schedules, arrange
appointments, and coordinate meetings for attorneys and clients. They act as a bridge of
communication, liaising between lawyers, clients, and other parties involved in legal cases.

Rose: Attorney Alanunay will be available at 10 a.m.

Dayne: Understood. Thank you, Rose.

Dayne: Hello, ma’am. Attorney Alanunay will be available at 10 a.m.

Lou: Okay, thank you. I'll be there before 10.

Dayne: You're welcome, ma'am. See you then!

Rose: Excuse me, ma’am. You have an appointment at 10 a.m.

Attorney: Noted, Rose. Thank you for the heads up.

(Reception Area)

Dayne: Good morning, ma’am. Do you have an appointment today?

Lou: Yes, ma’am. I made an appointment for 10 a.m. earlier over the phone.

Dayne: Alright, ma'am. Let me check my list. You must be Ms. Lou, correct? Please follow me.

Dayne: Hello, Attorney, Ms. Lou is already here.

Attorney: Good morning, Lou. Please have a seat.

Lou: Good morning, ma’am. Thank you for meeting me today.

Attorney: It’s my pleasure to have you here. I am Attorney Ma. Cristina Alanunay, the owner of
this firm.

Attorneys are legal professionals who provide legal advice, represent clients in court, and
handle legal matters on their behalf. An attorney must act honestly, in good faith, and in the
client's best interests, taking the care that could reasonably be expected of a person with the
attorney's experience and expertise. An attorney must also consider the client's wishes wherever
possible when carrying out their duties.

Attorney: My secretary informed me that you lost your ID. Can you tell me what happened?

Lou: My ID doesn’t have a sling, so I just use a clip. I realized I lost it when I got home. I
retraced my steps, but unfortunately, I couldn't find it.

Attorney: No worries, Lou. You've come to the right place. We can help you. In relation with
that, my legal secretary will discuss the functions and principles of the law office.

Rose: Absolutely, ma’am.

The primary function of a law office is to provide legal representation to clients. This includes
advising clients on their rights, responsibilities, and legal options, as well as representing them
in legal proceedings such as court cases, negotiations, and transactions. Law offices adhere to a
strict code of ethics, which includes maintaining client confidentiality, avoiding conflicts of
interest, and acting in the best interests of their clients. Ethical conduct is paramount to
maintaining the trust and integrity of the legal profession. Professionalism is a core principle in
a law office. This involves treating clients, colleagues, and all parties involved with respect,
courtesy, and fairness. Professional behavior fosters a positive reputation and credibility in the
legal community.
Lou: Thank you for that information, Ms. Secretary. Can you tell me how long the process of
obtaining an affidavit of loss should take?

Attorney: This will not take long. My secretary will contact you within 24-48 hours. Do you
have any other concerns?

Lou: No, Attorney. Thank you so much. I am looking forward to receiving my papers soon.

Attorney: You’re welcome, Lou. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We’re here to assist you.

(Next scene)

Glaze: Hello, ma'am. Good morning. I'm from J&T Delivery, and I will deliver your supplies
today.

Dayne: Hello, yes, ma’am. We are expecting a delivery today. We appreciate your service.
Thank you!

(Upon delivery)

Glaze: Good morning. These are the supplies that the law firm requested for this year.

Dayne: Thank you so much, sir.

Glaze: Anytime, ma’am. It’s my responsibility to deliver your items safely and efficiently.

Rose: I guess we now have all the equipment and materials we need in our office. It will be
easier to perform our daily tasks. We've received a multi-functional printer, a monitor, and
various legal supplies such as bond paper, pens, stamps, and folders.

Rose: A multifunctional printer- is essential for printing legal documents, contracts, pleadings,
court filings, correspondence, and other paperwork required for cases and client
communication. It also facilitates copying documents for distribution. Some multifunctional
printers have fax capabilities, which are occasionally needed for sending or receiving legal
documents, especially in areas where fax is still commonly used.

Dayne: Monitor- Attorneys and legal professionals frequently conduct legal research using
online databases and resources. A high-quality monitor provides a clear and readable display,
which is essential for reviewing case law, statutes, regulations, and legal precedents.

Atty: Bondpaper- Bond paper is typically used for drafting legal documents. It provides a
professional appearance and is suitable for printing contracts, agreements, legal memoranda,
and letters to clients or opposing counsel. Also Legal stamps, often called notary stamps or
seals, are used to authenticate and verify legal documents, affidavits, and signatures. They
provide a recognized and official mark of authenticity.

Lou: Pens- Attorneys and legal professionals rely on pens for taking notes during meetings,
client consultations, court hearings, and depositions. High-quality pens ensure clear and legible
notes.

Glaze: Folders and file organizers help attorneys and staff keep case-related documents and
paperwork organized. This is crucial for efficient case management, easy retrieval of documents,
and ensuring that important information is readily accessible.

Attorney: It’s a relief that they've arrived. I was running low on bond paper. By the way, Rose,
please contact Ms. Lou; the affidavit of loss is now ready.

Rose: Noted, Attorney. Thank you for the heads-up!
