Architectural offices in post pandemic scenario
A STUDY ON FUTURE OF ARCHITECTURAL OFFICES IN CENTRAL KERALA
INTRODUCTION

In this period of covid-19pandemic, although isolating is one among the best of

preventive measure, the basic human instinct to connect and socialize with people
have only increased which is beneficial to improve productivity and harmony of
people. For resolving such needs, the situation compel us to redefine the co-working
spaces to minimize the transmission of infectious viruses and microbes. In global
scenario, there are a lot of research and debates by the architects about space they
work need to manipulated to satisfy their intention to supress the transmission of such
diseases in post pandemic era. But in the context of Kerala, there hasn’t any
adaptation happened yet in limelight other than government imposed measures. The
study is intended to analyse the feasibility of interior adaptation of existing architectural
studios or in space to be build in Kerala context of above mentioned period of time.

pandemic situation. Intension to analyse the existing scenario of architectural offices
in central Kerala for which to understand the possibility of measures to be taken while
designing or adapting the spaces, and to provide the study as a contextually
relevant guide/ design consideration to refer in Kerala context or to any with similar
climatic or social condition for adapting the such space.
OBJECTIVE

• Study mode of virus/microbe transmission.

• Understand working methodology of the architectural firms.
• Study of available material finishes that influences transmission.
• Study scale and context of building.
• Climate of context in both at macro and micro level.
• Technology that helps in limiting transmission.
• Building typology and form.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

• How spatial arrangement and interior of an architectural firm in central Kerala

Should be adapted to provide bio-security in post pandemic situation ?

• How these firms are responding to current scenario?

• Why the perspective of bio security is not thought about in pandemic situation
other than government imposed measures.
NEED FOR RESEARCH

• Any proper design guide or study haven’t available yet for context like Kerala.

• Understand how the studio methodology can be managed for different

situation.

• Ensure psychological comfort to the workers in architectural offices pandemic

situation.
METHODOLOGY
