THE BIGGEST FOREST IN ROMANIA

Romania has 6.9 million hectares of land, representing around 27% of the total area in the
country. Our country is also the largest holding of virgin forests in Europe, or natural
wealth but systematically destroyed by illegal deforestation. We present to you some of the
largest forests in Romania, true natural laboratories, some of the unmodified elements of
the human activities of a lung historian.

Cozia forest

Attend the Cozia National Park, keep one of the most diverse in Romania. On a surface of
17,100 hectares you can find several types of beech, oak and acidophile forests. Most of
these are virgin forests - unchanged over time of human influence, being a protected area.

The Forest of Wealth

Another protected area, preserved from Brașov County, extending the natural area to almost
6,400 hectares in the Perșani mountains, from the Carpathian Mountains. Predominant in
the Forest of Wealth are species of beech, sissile and hornbeam, and the area is an
important population of bears, wolves and linx.

Letea forest

The largest forest in Dobrogea, Letea forest covers 5,246 hectares. Of which about half are
protected. The forest forms the oldest natural reserve in Romania, dating back to 1930, and
is one of the largest remaining virgin forests in Europe.
Caraorman Forest

Another wonder in the Danube Delta, Caraorman Forest covers 2,250 hectares. The
landscapes are similar to those of the Danube spring, from the Black Forest Mountains of
Germany, due to the huge oaks and sand dunes created by the arms of the Danube on which
the trees rise.
