"CLINICAL EVALUATION OF ERANDA KARKATI (CARICA PAPAYA LINN) PULP IN

YUVAN PIDIKA (ACNE VULGARIS)"
BRIEF RESUME OF' THE STUDY.

Introduction:

YUVANA PIDIKA :. is a disease explained under Kshudra Roga by Acharya Sushruta. Acharya Charaka
described Pidika in Raktapradoshaja Vikara . It includes Kandu (iteching), Todwat vedna (pain), Shotha
(swelling), Vaivarnya (skin discoloration). Antibiotic therapy is recommended for its treatment but their
chemical compounds create adverse effects on the body, So natural nontoxic remedies should be used to
bring the skin into normal state by treating problems like Yuvana Pidika. Acne is a disease of the
pilosebaceous glands. Excessive sebum production, hyperkeratinization, proliferation of Propionibacterium
acnes bacteria, and increased sebaceous gland sensitivity to androgens cause acne papules to develop. It is
one of the most common dermatological problem that affects virtually all individuals at least once during
Life. A great philosopher says that human faces express and represent their personality and wisdom. It is
saying that “Face is the index of mind”. Any minor ailment may affect from unattractive look to a
permanent disfigurement which may result in inferiority complex Such a big effect is caused by disease
Yuvana Pidika. In the past, acne was solely blamed on “puberty,” and teenage boys were most affected.
However, with the rise in hormones, food sensitivities, digestive problems, toxic environments, stress, high-
carbohydrate diets, and mineral and vitamin deficiencies, acne plagues all ages.. Acne was found to be a
common dermatosis in Indian school children with an overall prevalence of 72.3% and having a significant
impact on their quality of life.

Adolescent acne is more common in males than in females. On the contrary, postadolescent acne
predominantly affects females. Urban populations tend to be more affected by acne vulgaris than rural
populations. Approximately 20% of the affected individuals develop severe acne, which results in scarring.
Some evidence suggests that certain racial and ethnic groups may experience variations in the severity and
prevalence of acne vulgaris. Asians and Africans are more likely to develop severe forms of acne. Whereas
mild acne is more commonly seen in the White population. In general, people with darker skin also tend to
develop hyperpigmentation. The pathogenesis of acne vulgaris involves the interaction of several host
factors, including the stimulation of sebaceous glands by circulating androgens, dysbiosis of the
pilosebaceous follicle microbiome, and cellular immune responses. In addition, other factors such as genetics
and diet may also influence the development and progression of the disease. The microcomedo serves as the
primary lesion and is the precursor for all clinical manifestations of acne vulgaris. It is characterized by a
small, hyperkeratotic plug primarily composed of corneocytes and located in the lower region of the
follicular infundibulum. Microcomedones gradually evolve and develop into other acne lesions, which
include closed comedones (whiteheads), open comedones (blackheads), and inflammatory papules, pustules,
and nodules.

Ayurveda explains many remedies to combat Kusta Roga under Lepana karma. One among them is Eranda
Karakati. ERANDA KARKATI (CARICA PAPAYA LINN.) from the Caricacea family.
Chemically, The green parts of the plant and seeds of the papaya contain an alkaloid carpaine. The seeds
also contain carpasamine. The latex of the plant contains papain, chymopapain and pseudo carpaine. The
ripened fruit of papaya contains vitamin A, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and vitamin C. The latex of the
unripe fruit is collected by giving a cut and the collected latex is dried under shade.
Papaya contains the digestive enzyme, papain. It is used in treating sports injuries, other causes of
trauma, and allergies. Being rich in Vitamin A, pro-vitamin A carotenoid phytonutrients and C, Papaya fruit
is an excellent antioxidant
