1. What is Maruti’s Digital Initiative?
1.1 Introduction

Here the history of Maruti Suzuki talks about change and rebirth.
Started in 1970, the Maruti Motors business was transformed into 'Maruti Limited' in 1971.
Meanwhile, in 1981, the Maruti Udyog Limited was formed. was possible Maruti Suzuki India
Limited (MSIL) experienced a 14% growth in national sales and market share in 2018. MSIL
invested $80-100 million in data analytics and digital technologies, representing the automotive
industry's commitment to flexibility and quality.

1.2 Maruti’s Digital Initiatives

Maruti's digital initiatives include different information systems designed to improve their
operations. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system helps to streamline and manage
production processes, inventory, and supply chains efficiently. A customer relationship
management (CRM) system plays an extremely important role in maintaining and improving
customer relationships and providing personalized service. Manufacturing Execution Systems
(MES) make sure of supervising and control of manufacturing processes, improving efficiency.
Supply chain management (SCM) systems are critical for smooth material flow and information
management through the supply chain. Dealer management systems (DMS) support dealership
operations from sales to after-sales services, making sure
of a very smooth customer experience. Business
intelligence (BI) and analytics tools extract valuable
insights from data to inform strategic decisions and predict
market trends. Telematics and vehicle connectivity systems
collect data on vehicle performance, location, and driver
behavior to support vehicle maintenance and driver safety.
Internet of Things (IoT) systems can be used for real-time
supervising of manufacturing processes and vehicle data.
E-commerce and Online Sales Platforms offer digital ways
for customers to purchase vehicles and schedule service
appointments, changing to fit changing customer
preferences. Mobile apps provide convenient options for
customers to interact with the company, schedule service,
and access vehicle-related information. Data security and cyber security systems are extremely
important to protect sensitive automotive and customer data. These different information systems
all together support Maruti's digital initiatives, improving their efficiency, customer service, and
business processes.
The impact of Maruti's digital initiatives at each level of the organizational
structure

1. Impact on Strategic Level:

Maruti's importance level is significantly impacted by its computerized drives. These drives
furnish the organization with significant information and apparatuses for vital navigation. For
instance, information investigation and statistical surveying apparatuses empower the
organization to come to informed conclusions about item advancement, market extension, and
long-haul arranging. The capacity to adjust to showcase patterns and buyer feelings is
significant at the essential level.

2. Impact on Managerial Level:

Computerized drives fundamentally affect the administrative level inside Maruti. The
executive's Data Frameworks (MIS) and advanced announcing apparatuses furnish chiefs with
continuous information, KPIs, and execution measurements. This data assists them with
observing everyday tasks, dispensing assets productively, and settling on information-driven
choices in regard to creation, store network, and HR executives.

3. Impact on Operational Level:

Maruti's functional level encounters significant improvements because of computerized drives.
Robotization and advanced stages smooth out routine errands and improve functional
effectiveness. Producing processes, stock administration, quality control, and inventory
network operations all benefit from these drives. Maruti's creation lines can adjust rapidly to
popular changes, lessening expenses and working on general speaking proficiency.
INFORMATION SYSTEM SECURITY THREATS OF MARUTI

1. What are the information system security threats of Maruti?

2. Explanation about the identified information system security threats in Maruti?

Cyberattacks, Insider Threats, Supply Chain Risks, Data breaches, Vulnerabilities in Software
Systems (coursehero.com)

2.1Cyberattacks
In a cyberattack, an individual or a group of people violates the information system. Therefore,
the trust of the customers is lost.

Suggest Strategies that can be implemented in the organization to
mitigate the effect of identified information security threats

Data encryption to avoid Cyberattacks

Data encryption is one of the most popular and effective Cybersecurity methods that can be
used to secure data which many companies have been using for years. Simply data encryption
means “translating data into another form or a code that only the people with access to a
secret key or password can read.” (digitalguardian.com). Maruti Suzuki company also can use
this strategy to ensure the security of their organizational data.

Supply chain mapping to avoid Supply chain risks

Supply chain mapping means gathering information about the suppliers and the people who
work in the company's supply chain to create a global map of the supply network. (sedex.com)
Supply chain mapping is important to Maruti Suzuki company to learn more about how their
vehicles are produced, by whom, and where by making it easy for risk management, due
diligence, and responsible sourcing programs in their supply chain. (sedex.com)

Benefits of supply chain mapping

 Create supply chain transparency and visibility (sedex.com)
 Make informed business decisions and prevent risks (sedex.com)
 Take actions to remediate issues and protect workers (sedex.com)
Data backup and recovery to avoid data breach
Data breaches can cause the deletion of all company data. (paysimple.com) Therefore, data
backup can be useful to recover data in case of a severe crash, natural disaster, or data loss.
(paysimple.com) The IT team of Maruti Suzuki company must have an automated remote
backup system to protect organizational data. (paysimple.com) In a primary data failure
prototypes of data that were created in order to backup data can be used to recover the loss.
(netapp.com) Data failures can occur due to data corruption, hardware software failures, or
human-caused events such as accidental deletion of data or due to malicious attacks.
(netapp.com) This method can help the company to recover from such unplanned events stated
above. (netapp.com)
How the company can use Information Systems as a driving factor for
innovation as a competitive advantage.

Maruti Suzuki has used Information Systems as a driving factor for innovation and a competitive
advantage in several ways,

Data Analytics for Market Insights

Maruti Suzuki has been the most trusted auto manufacturer in India for more than 15 years.
With the involvement of analytics, the company has gained a competitive advantage in
increasing customer satisfaction (Jha, 2015). “Analytics is not a destination. It is an ongoing
journey” (Upal,2015). Rajesh Upal, the executive director-IT at Maruti Suzuki India once said
during an interview that their aim is to provide actionable insights to businesses for informed
decision-making using analytics (ETCIO.com,2015). Maruti Suzuki company has deployed
analytics across three main domains customer, manufacturing, and social media
(ETCIO.com,2015). They have worked on an analytics CRM solution to shift their marketing
strategy from mass marketing to a customer-centered approach (ETCIO.com,2015). Analytics
has helped the company to create foolproof processes with better efficiencies and to predict
the desirable quality of the products (ETCIO.com,2015).

Digital Manufacturing and 3D printing

3D Printing technology has rapidly evolved over the past few years. It can be used in product
innovation and manufacturing for the industries. This technology can be a competitive
advantage for the Maruti Suzuki Company to improve their production processes and to make
themselves unique in the automotive industry. (Alfonso,2023) Using this technology small or
large pieces of vehicle parts, such as engines, pistons, longitudinal beams, fuel distributional
pipes, or the full body including doors and frames can be built without any human involvement.
(printerest.com) The advantages of 3D printing are efficiency, continuous production
(3dgence.com), reduced production time by 40%, and production cost by 50% (induplast.es).

Predictive maintenance system

Due to the continuous evolution of new technologies and innovations in the global automotive
industry, the lack of historical data became a challenge for quality management. (GmbH, 2023)
This system helps Maruti Suzuki company to ensure the safety and longevity of vehicles also to
identify potential errors, prevent failures, and reduce maintenance costs. (GmbH, 2023)
