According to the dictionary of oxford
languages:-
Linguistics is the scientific study of language and its structure
including the study of grammar, syntax, and phonetics. The main specific
branches of linguistics are; Sociolinguistics, dialectology, psycholinguistics,
computational linguistics, comparative linguistics, and structural linguistics.

2 According to the dictionary of Collins:-

It has been defined as, “linguistics is the science of knowledge,
including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics: sometime it
can be subdivided into descriptive linguistics, theoretical linguistics and
geographical linguistics.

3 In the dictionary of Cambridge:-

 The term of ‘linguistics’ has been defined as ‘the study of meaning of
linguistics in English which is connected with the language or the study of
language.

4 linguistics terms has been defined in “The free

dictionary’’ :-
It is the study about nature, structure and variation of language,
including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics
and pragmatics.

5 According to the Wikipedia linguistics:-

Term is described as: It is the scientific study of human language. It is
called a scientific study because it entails a comprehensive, systematic, objective,
and precise analysis of all aspects of language, particularly its nature and
structure. Linguistics is concerned with both the “cognitive and social aspects of
language. It is scientific field as well as an academic discipline; it has been
classified as a social science, natural science, cognitive science, or part of the
humanities.

Keeping in mind of all the above definitions it can be said that ‘linguistics is the
study of the structure development, etc. of a particular language and its
relationship to the other languages.
