How we form the Singular and Plural Number of the

Nominative Case/Ονομαστική Πτώση

Cases/πτώσεις are the different forms Greek words as articles, nouns,

adjectives, pronouns, participles can have. The form of the words
changes at the ending, the first part of the words, the so-called stem, does
not change.
Ex. O Γιώργος, η Βασιλική, το τραγούδι

Nominative is usually placed at the beginning of the sentences.

Ex. Ο Κώστας τραγουδάει. = Costa is singing.

Nominative is also used after certain verbs such as:

Είμαι ( in all persons)

Αρέσει/Αρέσουν (like)
Υπάρχει/Υπάρχουν (there is/there are)

Ex. Είμαι η Ελένη. = I am Helen.

Μου αρέσει η Ιστορία. = I like history.

A general Pattern to remember for the formation of the Nominative

case in Plural.

All the endings –α

-η become - ες
-ας
-ης
The ending -ος becomes -οι (like the definite article in front of the noun
Ex. Οι λύκοι)

In the ending – μα you have to add -τα (Ex. δέμα - δέματα)

The endings -ι become - α in the ending –ι you

-ο only add the –α
Ex. τα παιδιά
