TITLE: GOMBURZA DOCUMENTARY BY NHCP

Gomburza, alternatively stylized as GOMBURZA or GomBurZa, refers to three


filipino catholic priests Mariano Gomes, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora, who
were executed by garrote on febuary 17, 1872, in bagumbayan. Philippines by
spanish colonial authorities on charges subversion arising from the 1872 Cavite
mutiny.
Mariano Gomes was the first priest to go. Born in Santa cruz manila, on Aug 2,
1799, he was the oldest and most venerable of the three; well-known for his
anti-spanish sentiment, well loved parishioners in Bacoor that he served long
well. Eyewitnesses descride Gomes as calm and resigned to his fate.

Filipino priest Mariano Gomes, Jose burgos, Jacinto Zamora (GOMBURZA0 were
executed with a garrote while blindfolded and seated on a scaffold at
Bagumbayan ( now luneta park) on feb 17, 1872. They were meted the death
penalty for their alleged participation in the 1872 Cavity mutiny.

There was a fourth man, Zaldua, who provided testimony that nailed the three
priest. He was promised a pardo that never came, and he was executed first.

Execution of Gomburza. On Feb 15, 1872, the spanish colonial authorities


charged the priest with treason and sedition, and subversion ; and were
sentenced to death by garrote at Bagumbayan Philippines. They were executed
2 days after their verdict

Jose Rizal’s novel ‘NOLI ME TANGERE’ rizal was only 10 years when the
Gomburza died, he was already aware of what happened. He even use them as
inspiration for his second novel ‘ EL FILIBUSTERISMO’.
