Consider the following flowsheet which consists of a reactor, a separator and a splitter, all elementary

modules. Feed stream S1 contains components A and B which react in the reactor according to the
following two parallel reactions.

2A + B C Reaction 1
B C+D Reaction 2
The overall conversion of the two reactions based on component B is 80%. The flash vessel
removes 100% of component A in the reactor outlet as overhead and removes 100% of
component D in the reactor outlet as the bottom liquid. At the same time, 20% of component C
from the reactor is recovered as overhead. Finally, the splitter divides the bottom stream of the
flash into two streams with equal flow rates.

The following information is available about the process.

a. The ratio of molar flow rate between the component A and component B in the feed S1 is
2 to 1
b. The total molar flow rate of stream S3 is 63.5 lbmol/h.
c. The mol% of component C in stream S4 is 65.98%.
d. The flow rate of component C in stream S5 is 16 lbmol/h.

Perform a mass balance to determine:

1. The flow rates of every stream in this process.

2. The compositions of every stream in this process.
