THE INTERLACE
INTRODUCTION
Location
- Located on an elevated eight hectare
(80000 sq.m) site
- Singapore
Design
- Designed by Architect Ole Sheeran partner of the
office for metropolitan
architecture.
Total area
- 170000 sq.m
- 31 apartment blocks each six storey tall with 8 main court
yard and with 24 stories.
- Have parking for 2600 cars at the basement
- Apartment - 1040 (144000 sq.m) in which sizes vary from 75
sq.m to 600 sq.m
- Club houses 1500 sq.m
- Retails 500 sq.m
Concept
- vertical
village
- The new residential typologywhich breaks away from the
cluster of isolating towers.
- Horizontaly connected volumes establishes abetter connected
and less isolated residental environment.
- All types of units are mixed
- Series of housing blocks arranged in hexagonal grid with
aperfect andd awesome view from penthouse
- Instead of using the defoult typology of housing that is cluster
of isolated towers the design turns vertical isolation into
horizontal connectivity.
Site plan
-The design capitalizes on the generous size of the site and
furthur maximizes the precense of nature by introducing
extensive roof gardens, landscaped sky terrace and cascading
balconies.
- Above ground vehicular circulation is minimized librating large
green areas with in the development.
- The interlace incorporates sustainability features through
carefull environmental analysis of sun, wind, and other climate
condition on site and the integration of low impact passive
energy strategy.
- Water bodies have been strategicaly placed with defined wind
corridors which allows evaporative cooling to happen along
wind paths reducing local air temperature amd improving the
thermal comfort of out door recreational spaces in strategic
micro climate zones .
- All apartment recieve ample levels of daylight through out the
day while the unique massing of the project provides asufficient
level of self shading in the court yard which helps maintain
comfortable tropical outdoor spaces.
-A central square , theatre plaza and water park occupy the
more public and central ciurt yard.
Merits
- More recreational areas on site .
- More green area than the built up area this makes the
building eco frindly.
- Less noise pollution because of less vehicular circulatin on the
site.
-Have sustainability features.
-No pedisterian path way is intersected by vehicular.
circulation.
- Differentiated pedisterian and vehicular entrances.
Demerits
- Very huge private garden balconies.
- Vehicles only acces to the basement only.
- Incorporate huge spaces because the blocks are horizontaly
arranged.
Plans
- The 1040 residentail units of varying sizes of 75 sq.m to 600
sq.m are distrubuted among 31 apartment blocks each six
stories tall which are stacked in hexagonal arrangements aroind
8 courtyards.
-The blocks are arranged on four main super levels whith three
peaks of 24 stories.
- core lobbies are lit and naturally ventilated
- A system of 3 core types for 6 , 18 and 24 stories ia located at
the overlap of the stacked blocks providing efficint circulation
with out long corridors.
Merits
- Differnt units of residences from studio up to 4 bedrooms that
makes optional.
- Naturaly ventilated corridors
- No long corridors
- Have green balconies for residential units
Demerits
- very less percentage for retails
- Very large private balconies of residences .
Services
Merits
- less circulation in the first super level makes the interuption to
the residences less
- Optional circulation at once that is stair and elevator
Demerits
- The stairs and elevator creates negeative spaces in rooms as
the blocks are hexagonally arranged then makes the stairs and
elevators fit in different ways to the different blocks.
Parking
- Basemnt parking for 2600 cars
-Open air voids on the plinth allow air and light to the semi
stunken and naturally ventilated parking deck.
- vehicles only access to the basement this makes above ground
vehicular movement minimized.
Acess Networks
Public and central spaces
- The
communal spaces have been located in such a way that it gets
the shadow of the blocks.
- Eight main court yards containing water bodies , club houses,
central square and gym
Inference
+ No intersection of pedisterian movement by any vehicular
movement
+ More incorporation of social spaces
+ More green areas than the built up areas thus makes it apart
of the ecology
+ All types of unit are mixed
+ The spatial arrangement of the different blocks provides
different states of sun and shadow with large water bodies
provided for influencing the micro climate in the recreational
spaces between the towers improving the overall quality of
comfort and exprience
- Thougn the design generates a different horizontal
arrangement of blocks instead of asky scrapper but it is possible
when the site is large enough
- Give more attention and space to the residential units than
the retails that is the retails encorporates very small part of the
area .
- Vehicles only access to the basement ther us no access to
ground level if required.
