Climate

Guihulngan’s climate is similar to the rest of the cities and municipalities in Negros Oriental belonging to
the third type. This type is characterized by not very pronounced maximum rainfall with a short dry
season from one to three months and a wet season of nine to ten months. The dry season starts in
February and lasts up to April sometimes extending up to the middle of May. The coolest months are
November and December. The heaviest rainfalls are from June to August and the rest of the year has no
pronounced rain period.

The temperature is relatively uniform, ranging from 26.1 to 27.7 degrees centigrade and a minimum of
approximately 20.9 degrees Celsius

Topography

Like most of the Municipalities and Cities in Northern Oriental Negros, the topographic landscape of
Guihulngan is characterized by narrow stripes of tidal flats (0-3%) along the sea coast, specifically in
Barangay Poblacion, Tinayunan Beach, and Malusay on the southern portion of the municipality and the
northern tip near the Guihulngan – Vallehermoso boundary are Hibaiyo and Hilaitan. As one goes inland
towards Oriental Negros– Negros Occidental border, the slope rise ranging from gently sloping to
undulating (3-8%) to rolling hills (18-30%) up to very steep hills mountain ranges punctuated by
occasional plateaus and valleys.

As seen, the site surroundings are not highly urbanized, there are not many commercial and industrial
areas except the two resorts; Flavaren Beach Resort (2min drive to the south), and Australian Beach
Resort (1min drive to the south). The area around the has a light district. There is also a river 200m from
the northern boundary of the proposed runway that flows toward the sea. As for paths, there are 3
minor roads that cross inside the proposed runway and a National Road (Highway) on the east side of
the site. Guihulngan City can be accessed by a 26mins drive to the south via National Road

Most commercial establishments such as resorts, hotels, restaurants, and popular tourist spots are in the
neighboring City:

 Canlaon, Negros Oriental, 29.93 kilometers (58mins drive) to the North (N11°W)
 San Carlos, Negros Occidental, 43.12 kilometers (39mins) to the North Northeast (N22°E)

which can also be accessed via National Road.
