VOCABULARY: EMPLOYING THE RIGHT PEOPLE

1 Complete the text with the missing words. The beginning of each word is given.
The recruitment process usually begins when the employer advertises a (1) vacany or a new post –
sometimes both inside and outside the company. Once they have received all the (2) applications forms,
they study and discuss them in order to select those which meet their requirements. Next, they will
assemble an interview (3) panel and call the few candidates they have (4) shortlist to an interview. The
employer will also need to check (5) references either before or after the interviewing stage. Finally, the
employer will make a job (6) offer to the successful candidate, who then starts work, sometimes after a
(7) probationary period of three or six months. In many companies, the new recruit will attend induction
sessions or be given a mentor who is responsible for (8) training new staff. After that, the recruit can be
offered a (9) permanent post.
