ISOMETRIC DRAWING
Concepts of Isometric Drawing
An Isometric Drawing is a three dimensional drawing with width,
height and depth measurement

Concepts of Isometric Drawing

You will note that there are:

• Three isometric axes.
• These are inclined at 120°to each
other.
• One axis is vertical and
• the other two axes are therefore at
30° to the horizontal.
• Dimensions measured along these
axes, or parallel to them, are true
lengths.
Isometric Projection
 Isometric projection is a pictorial method of drawing.
 The receding lines are drawn at 30º and the others are vertical.
 All lines are drawn their true length.
 As with all drawings, it is better to complete the drawing in
construction lines first, check that everything is correct and then
line in the outlines.
Isometric Projection
In Basic Engineering Drawing you learned that orthographic views
are arranged in two techniques as:
• 1st angle projection (Used in European countries; ISO standard)
also known as British system
• 3rd angle projection (Used in Bangladesh, Canada, USA, Japan,
Thailand) also known as American system.

Isometric Drawing
T-square and 30/60 set squares are vital drawing equipment in
isometric projection.
