1. File preparation
Open a new Excel file. Your answers to Items 1, 2 and 3 below are to be placed into three
appropriately named sheets in the same file.

2. Butterfly Data [1 mark]


On the first sheet, copy and paste the worked output for the Butterfly data that you did in class i.e.
the two pivot tables showing species and decade frequencies, and the corresponding charts. Next to
the species counts there should be calculated relative frequencies.

3. Readability of information pamphlets for cancer patients.


a) Copy and paste the two charts, completed as requested, that you produced in class.

b) Answer the following question on the same sheet: [1 mark]
Based on these samples, approximately what proportion of cancer patients would
find at least 80% of the available pamphlets too hard to read to be helpful?

4. Grouper data
Download and open the Grouper dataset. This dataset contains information on the number of
observations of different species of Grouper fish across various locations and habitats.
a) Into the second sheet copy and paste the Grouper data that has been corrected and tidied
up according to the principles discussed in class. [1 mark]
a. Make sure rows represent data for individual observational units, and columns
represent the variables.
b. Group the data in the following priority using the sorting function (Species, location,
habitat, class size and number of observations)
c. Make sure all formatting is appropriate and consistent
d. Correct spelling mistakes

b) Write a sensible research question that could be addressed by this data, indicating the
dependent and independent variables. [1 mark]

4. Submission of Assignment
Save the file prepared as requested, and with a name that begins with your student ID (e.g.
123456H_Ass1). Submit via the online portal in the Assignments folder on BB.
