The students will be divided into 4 groups. A worded puzzle containing words
related to the present topic will be shown. The group will be given 2 minutes to find
the words. The group who will get the greatest number of correct words wins the
game.

B2. ANALYSIS:
Activity: Match the words from column A with their meaning from column B.

1. Discuss and Explain the commonly used MS Excel Functions

Function Format/Syntax Use Example

SUM =SUM(CA:CA) Calculates the total of =SUM(A1:A2)
the values of cells
AVERAGE =AVERAGE(CA:CA) Calculates the = AVERAGE(A1:A2)
arithmetic mean of a
range of cells or values
MAX = MAX(CA:CA) Gives the highest value = MAX(A1:A2)
in a range of cells or
values
MIN = MIN(CA:CA) Gives the lowest value = MIN(A1:A2)
in a range of cells or
values
COUNT =COUNT(CA:CA) Counts the number of = COUNT(A1:A2)
cells in a range of cells

2. Discuss and demonstrates the steps in using the different Excel functions.

B3: ABSTRACTION:
Ask the students the following questions:
 What is a function?
 Give functions used in excel?
 Ask the range of the selected cells?
B4: APPLICATION:
The teacher will group the students into four. Each group will have a computer unit to
work on for the hands-on activity.
1. Create a new file and enter the following data.
2. Compute for the sum and average of the given values for each computer part.
3. Give the maximum and minimum values for each computer part.
4. Count the number of values you entered for each computer part
5. Save your file as ACTIVITY_groupnumber.
6. Close your file.
