Chapter two:
● The story of how Campbell got convicted of murder.
○ Someone rang the London Road police station, didn’t leave a name, but said
we should search Campbell’s flat after Sinclair was found dead.
○ a gun in a metal box in his kitchen was found.
○ It turned out to be the gun which had killed Sinclair and Campbell’s
fingerprints were all over the box
○ when Morag Mackenzie came into the police station. She said she’d seen
Campbell and Sinclair drinking and shouting at each other on the night (in
Abbotsford Arms) that Sinclair died.
○ Campbell said the box was his but he’d never seen the gun, and that he’d
never been in the Abbotsford Arms in his life. He said he
○ didn’t know Sinclair very well at all so why would he kill him
● Already been to prison twice: once for stealing cars and once for fighting in a pub. He
broke someone’s arm.
● Thirty-five years old, 180 cm tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.
● Hair was short and straight, the eyes small and close together.
● He was described as slim and quite strong.
Helen Robertson: a police doctor.
● A dark-haired woman wearing blue trousers and a white shirt
● Was studying the dead body.
● Found a dirty envelope in the dead person's pockets.
→ A list of eggs, bread, milk, and matches. A shopping list. And on the front was the
name Morag Mackenzie. (The name Morag Mackenzie can also be found in
Campbell's police report → She’s not one of his favorite people.)
