PCMA is facilitating its members by

practices through regularly organized
events e.g. seminars, workshops,
trainings, exposure visits etc.
We are keeping regular liaison with
government ministries, regulatory
bodies, international agencies, fora,
etc. Our work with the government
focuses on imports substitution efforts.
Discussion on establishing first-ever
naphtha cracker complex in Pakistan is
also, that would be a potent source for
producing raw-material and inputs used
for chemical manufacturing domes-
tically and thereby substituting the
imports.

13th GPCA Agri-Nutrients Conference
to take place in Qatar in September
Dubai: The 13th annual edition of the
Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals
Association (GPCA) Agri-Nutrients
Conference will take place from 17-19
September 2023 at the Ritz-Carlton,
Doha, Qatar, under the theme
“Sustainable Transformation in
Practice – The Future of Agri-Nutrients”.
The global population is estimated to
reach 9.8 billion by 2050, while 68% of
the population is projected to live in
cities by 2050. Increasing population
and urbanization, macroeconomic
instability, poverty and inequalities,
geopolitical tensions, conflicts, food
security, and climate change are just
some of the ongoing challenges facing
the agri-nutrient industry.
The agri-nutrients industry, while
responding to these challenges, is
focused on building a more resilient and
sustainable market for the future. This
entails a substantial change in both
advanced economies and developing
countries and will be the key focus of
the 13th GPCA Agri-Nutrients
Conference. Policymakers, academia,
industry leaders, technology providers,
and value chain partners will converge
to discuss the need to realign and chart
the roadmap to a sustainable
transformation here, in the Arabian Gulf
region, and globally. Industry stalwarts
will delve into the transition paths
forward to preserve the diversity of
agriculture and our food systems while
striking a balance between short-term
productivity gains and longer-term
resilience, environmental health, and
sustainability gains.
The opening remarks on day one, 18
September, will be delivered by
Abdulrahman Al-Suwaidi, CEO,
QAFCO and Chairman, Agri-Nutrients
Committee, GPCA, while the keynote
address will be delivered by
Abdulrahman Shamsaddin, CEO,
SABIC Agri-Nutrients, and Vice-chair,
Agri-Nutrients Committee, GPCA.
Later that day, the program will feature
a plenary session on ‘The far-reaching
implications of geopolitics on the agri-
nutrient sector’ as well as three

Gulf Petrochemicals &
Chemicals Association
The Gulf Petrochemicals and
Chemicals Association (GPCA) was
established in 2006 to represent the
downstream hydrocarbon industry in
the Arabian Gulf. Today, the association
voices the common interests of more
than 250 member companies from the
chemical and allied industries,
accounting for over 95 percent of
chemical output in the GCC. The
industry makes up the second largest
manufacturing sector in the region,
producing over US$108 billion worth of
products every year.
GPCA supports the petrochemical
and chemical industry in the Arabian
Gulf through advocacy, networking and
thought leadership initiatives aimed at
helping member companies to connect,
share and advance knowledge,
contribute to international dialogue, and
become prime influencers in shaping
the future of the global petrochemicals

 Seventy years of success of the CHT Group
The CHT Group celebrates its 70th
anniversary in 2023 – a good occasion
to review and look back on seventy
years of Smart Chemistry with
Character. Here’s an insight into the
company history and plans of the global
player for specialty chemicals.
The CHT success story began in
1953 when Reinhold Beitlich founded
the “Chemische Fabrik Tübingen R.
Beitlich GmbH” – today: CHT Germany
GmbH – in Tübingen. In its very first
year of business, CHT achieved sales
of around EUR 235,000 with 13
employees. Until the seventies,
additional warehouses, production and
shipping halls, administration and
laboratory buildings were built almost
every year.
During this growth phase the first
subsidiaries were founded in Austria,
France, South Africa and in
Switzerland. In 1980, the Swiss
subsidiary, today’s CHT Switzerland
AG, took up dyestuffs as a second pillar
alongside textile auxiliaries and has
since become CHT’s competence
center for dyestuffs. Due to this
expansion phase, Tübingen became
too small as a production site, so that in
1972 the new production site in
Dußlingen near Tübingen went into
operation. Today, CHT continues to
expand, with subsidiaries and
corporate acquisitions, on all
continents.

acquired the Brazilian company

This broad diversification has
enabled the medium-sized global

CHT customers appreciate above all

application. Particular attention is paid
to the development of problem
solutions that are characterized by a
high degree of environmental
awareness, because sustainability
plays a major role at CHT.
One example is BIOLAY, a newly
developed natural barrier product
against fats and oils that is readily
biodegradable and free from
microplastics and fluorocarbons. CHT
has implemented the principles of the
circular economy in ARRISTAN rAIR, a
hydrophilic agent made from recycled
PET bottles for long-lasting moisture
management effects in sports and
active wear made from recycled yarns
and fabrics.
CHT aims to contribute to a
sustainable future with its chemical

climate protection and meeting the goal
of keeping global warming to 1.5 °C are
