POINTS TO PONDER
 Reflect on the principles of an Environmental Management System (EMS) and its
role in promoting sustainable development. How can an effective EMS balance
environmental protection, economic growth, and social well-being within an
organization or community?
 Consider a real-world example of a company or organization that has
implemented an EMS to achieve sustainable development goals. Reflect on the
challenges they might have faced during the implementation process and the
long-term benefits they've achieved. How can these lessons be applied to other
contexts?
 Reflect on the interconnectedness between environmental management systems
and sustainable development on a global scale. How can international
collaboration and the sharing of best practices contribute to more effective
environmental management and a more sustainable future for all?
ENVIRONMENTAL
MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM
 An Environmental
Management System (EMS)
is a framework that helps an
organization achieve its
environmental goals through
consistent review,
evaluation, and
improvement of its
environmental performance.
SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT

 Sustainable development is an organizing

principle for meeting human development
goals while also sustaining the ability of
natural systems to provide the natural
resources and ecosystem services on which
the economy and society depend.
SUSTAINABLE  United Nations (2015) has developed its five- component intermingled SD
paradigm (5Ps: People, Partnership, Peace, Planet and Prosperity), from
DEVELOPMENT which the goals of SD emerge.
