My peer teaching subject was Second Conditional. Creating a lesson around this subject in a

fun and communicative way was rather challenging. Our professor told us that a previous

student used the song “If I was a rich girl” to teach this topic. However, I saw that this was

done a lot by other EFL material designers online and those worksheets were not particularly

as communicative or attention capturing as I wanted so I decided to find a less used song to

teach my subject and I designed my own materials so I could utilize them specially my

students’ interest.

I knew that I wanted to integrate media into my demo lesson. My original lesson was to show

a clip from the “What Would You Do?” series in which people’s reactions to socially

challenging situations are tested. I was planning on asking students what they would do ift

they were in that scenario. However, I could not manage to extend from that so I had to

change my plan. Upon further research, I came across Taylor Swift’s song titled “The Man ''

and I knew I found the perfect example due to Swift’s popularity among people of all age

groups. I originally planned on playing the music video but the music video had rather

inappropriate scenes and the original song had some swear words so I had to resort to playing

a censored version of the song. I believe my materials were successful overall from a visual

perspective. However, I believe my worksheet in which the students were expected to fill in

the blanks turned out to be a rather problematic activity due to the number of items it had. I

designed my activity with many gaps because most of the gaps were just repetitions of each

other so I did not want my students to simply fill in the blanks by locating the repetition in

other parts of the worksheet instead of listening to the song as intended. The activity did turn

out to be a success but writing all the answers on the board was rather tiring and time-

consuming due to the number of items that I had. I also did not number my items which was

another problematic part of my activity.

For all my other activities, I believe they all played out as I planned. My warm-up and mind

map activities had rather low participation so I had to cut them short but the time I spent

writing on the board during my worksheet activity added up which resulted in my lesson not

ending early.

I also believe that my classroom management skills were okay. However, the number of

students in the classroom was lower than I anticipated with almost half of the class missing.

This absence resulted in a somewhat low energy in the classroom which I tried to control by

being overly active. I believe this yielded positive results since students who did not initially

participate ended up participating later on.

To conclude,I believe my lesson was rather fun due to the nature of the material I used. The

activities mostly played out as I had planned and my classroom management skills were

enough to get a hold of the classroom.
