Small Act, Big Impact: The Power of Kindness

By: Justine S. Anonuevo

Today, I have the privilege of addressing you on a subject that has the power to inspire, provoke thought,
and drive positive change. The title of my speech is Small Act, Big Impact: The Power of Kindness and I
believe it encapsulate the essence of our shared journey here today.

It is often said that kindness is a powerful force that can have a significant impact on individuals and as a
whole. Being kind has the capacity to change people, develop connection, advance charitable endeavors,
and make the world a better place. It has also the power to touch people’s heart, motivate them to take
action, and bring out the best in them. We may significantly improve the life of others and work toward a
brighter future by appreciating the power of kindness and putting it into practice. Everyone can be kind;
it is not always about something expensive because there is what we call “simple kindness”. Simple acts
of kindness might be small but it can be remarkable.

Please allow me to tell you a story about a simple kindness that I will never forget. My father and I have
been very close ever since I was a child, and I appreciate everything he does. I constantly feel protected
and loved by my Papa. He can truly do anything for me. The most kind thing my father ever did to me is
when I was seven years old, he bought two ice cream – one for him and one for me. I really enjoyed the
ice cream, and I told him that I would like to have another one but sadly my father didn’t have enough
money, he handed me his ice cream to me instead. I could feel his joy in his eyes as he watched me enjoy
the ice cream.

See? Giving luxuries isn’t the definition of kindness. Giving someone a piece of ice cream that costs only
10 pesos can turn into unforgettable moment. Even a warm smile, holding the door for a moment for
someone, giving genuine compliment, and even just saying a simple “thank you” cab brighten someone’s
day.

Let us all be reminded that even a small act of kindness can have a big impact. It is easy to give yet can
have a big impact towards the receiver and the giver. These little acts of kindness have the power to
improve people’s lives, strengthen relationships, and create a compassionate and caring society. As a
matter of fact, kindness is a wonderful way to make difference in the world.
