The results of a research study, titled ‘Adolescents’ Expressed Meanings of Music in and out of School’ were
announced. The study was based on responses by 1,155 teens, who stated that they value music making as a
central aspect of their identities. It outlines what music and music making means to teens – that playing music
provides a sense of belonging for them and provides the freedom to just be themselves. Moreover, according
to the study, music helps teenagers release or control emotions. Teens associate playing music with music

BBC analysis has found that the number of teenagers learning foreign languages in UK secondary schools
