My Town – Myeik

By Hector, 33

I live in Myeik, where is a small town on the Tanintharyi Division in the

south of Myanmar. This town is a coastal town and it is a beautiful and pleasant
city to live in. Sometimes the weather is bad, but I love my city.

This town is also the district town of Tanintheryi Division. Although the
city is small, there are many things to see and do. The main business of this
town is the water industry and there are other inland jobs. The main products
are natural rubber, coconuts, edible bird’s nests, pearl farming. Seafood
products like paste, dried shrimp, dried fish, crabs, shrimps, fishes and jelly fish.
They are often exported to Upper Myanmar and neighboring Thailand.

Another interesting thing is that there are also historical stupas. The most
famous are Lay Kyung Semi Thein Dawgyi Pagoda, Sone Lay Sone, Kabarlone
Pagoda and there are other stupas. You can feel the beauty of the beautiful city
of Myeik from the top of Thein Dawgyi Pagoda (Theingyi Mountain), it from the
other side, there is a twin island called Pataw and Patap Taung was able to see
Shwe Thar Laing as well. There are other places to visit, there is a mall called
Market Garden. When the sun sets on the waterfront street in front of it, it is
very crowded with market stalls and you can enjoy the sunset. Another great
place to visit is the Smart beach where you can visit the many island in Myeik
City. This beach is the best place to under water diving and you will be able to
feel nature. This is about my town, I invite you to visit.
I live in Myeik, a small coastal town in the Tanintharyi Division of southern
Myanmar. It is a beautiful and pleasant city to reside in, despite occasional
unfavorable weather conditions. This town also serves as the district
headquarters of the Tanintharyi Division. Despite its small size, there are
numerous attractions and activities available for visitors. The primary industries
in Myeik are related to water, such as the production of natural rubber,
coconuts, edible bird’s nests, pearl farming, as well as the processing and
export of seafood products like paste, dried shrimp, dried fish, crabs, shrimps,
fishes, and jellyfish to Upper Myanmar and neighboring Thailand.

An additional point of interest in Myeik is its historical stupas. Notable

ones include Lay Kyung Semi Thein Dawgyi Pagoda, Sone Lay Sone, Kabarlone
Pagoda, and other stupas. To experience the beauty of Myeik from a different
perspective, you can ascend Thein Dawgyi Pagoda (Theingyi Mountain) and
enjoy the view of the twin island called Pataw and Patap Taung, as well as
Shwe Thar Laing. Market Garden, a shopping mall, is another place worth
visiting. As the sun sets, the waterfront street in front of the mall becomes
bustling with market stalls, providing an opportunity to savor the sunset. Smart
Beach, an excellent spot to explore the islands around Myeik City, offers
exceptional underwater diving experiences and a chance to immerse oneself in
nature.

This is a glimpse of my hometown, and I warmly invite you to visit Myeik.
