love my country. We have the best beaches in the world,” says Jane the Virgin alum Jaime Camil.
“I love going to Riviera Maya.” Located in the northeastern section of the Yucatán Peninsula, this
80-mile stretch of coastline is home to Cancún, Tulum and Playa del Carmen, famous for their all-
inclusive resorts. Travelers who yearn for a quieter, more traditional Mexican beach experience can
find it in towns like Akumal, which is famed for its family-friendly, laid-back vibe. “The beaches are
breathtaking,” says Jaime of the region. “The nature is just incredible.” —Reporting by Fortune Benatar

MY LIFE IN

Pictures
GROWING UP in Athens, Georgia, Kimila Ann Basinger admits,
“I was so shy at school that I hardly ever talked, so everybody
thought I was kind of a hermit.” Yet, she says, “[I knew] exactly what
I wanted to do: I wanted to be in show business. I just knew it was all
going to happen.” And after winning a Junior Miss contest that led
to a stint as a Breck Shampoo Girl and a career as a model, she was on
her way to establishing herself as a star — despite her “heavy-duty,
very out loud” divorce from Alec Baldwin, bankruptcy and, at times,
paralyzing anxiety. But Kim, who turns 70 on Dec. 8, has persevered.
“The best part of aging is learning to shed all the s–t that has weighed
you down your whole life,” she says. “The most of something that
you can do sometimes is to be in the present doing nothing. It’s taking
in the value of what each moment has to offer.”

Kim, who played the rapper’s on-screen mom
in 8 Mile. “[But] it was a wild ride. It was a scary

nervous. It was kind of like a common bond we all had.”
