FADE IN:

1 EXT. OUTSIDE MIKA'S HOUSE - DAY 1

MIKAEL (14, male, light skinned, brown hair, has a

permanent sour face) cuts wood in front of a fire pit
outside his house. D'ANDREA (14, female, dark skinned, long
dark hair) sews a hole in a piece of clothing. CHARLOTTE
(14, female, light skinned, blonde hair, constantly
smiling) excitedly runs up to her friends.

CHARLOTTE (O.S.)
(enthusiastically and out
of breath)
Guys!... Guys!... They're giving
out bread!

D'andrea and Mikael quickly stand up and run to Charlotte

D'ANDREA
(Also enthusiastic)
Really?!

CHARLOTTE
Yes! We have to hurry though!

D'andrea and Charlotte turn around and start to run.

MIKAEL
Wait wait.

The girls turn around as Mikael catches up with them.

D'ANDREA
Mikael did you not hear Charlotte?
We have to hurry!

MIKAEL
(slowly)
Yes...I heard her. But how can you
just blindly follow without asking
some more questions? Charlotte,
who's giving out the bread?

Mikael and D'andrea look at Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE
(hesitantly)
It's...The Princess.

MIKAEL

And you think it's ok to just take

bread from The Princess? From our
mortal enemy? Need I remind you
that the government is brainwashing
us and forcing us to work for them
against our will-

D'ANDREA
(annoyed and mockingly)

Will you stop it already with the whole "government is

controlling us and we're all submitting to their will"
thing?

MIKAEL
How could you say that?

Charlotte and D'andrea sigh and sit down as they know this
may take a while.

MIKAEL
The government is horrible! Don't
you get it? We had a life outside
of this. We used to just play
together We had parents.

D'ANDREA
We still have parents dummy.

D'andrea points to the miniature ghosts hanging out by a

tree.

MIKAEL
C'mon D'andrea, you can't possibly
think those are our actual parents?
They're ghosts! They're small! How
could we have possibly come out of
those? Plus, they always agree with
whatever you say.

CHARLOTTE
That's not true.

GHOST PARENT 1
Yeah that's not true!

Mikael raises an eyebrow, sighs, and then continues.

MIKAEL

You don't remember your real

parents because The Magician took
away your memories and gave you
these pathetic ghost things and
told you to call them mom and dad.

Charlotte gasps and puts her hands to the side of her ghost
parent's head as if to block her ears. She looks over at
Mikael angrily.

CHARLOTTE
(angrily and offended)
How dare you treat our parents this
way?!

MIKAEL
Because they're not my actual
parents.

D'andrea stands up suddenly.

D'ANDREA
You know what Mikael? I don't care.
I'm hungry and I'm gonna go get
some food.

D'andrea starts walking away and Charlotte begins to

follow.

MIKAEL
Wait! Didn't you hear what I-

D'ANDREA
(angrily)
Yes Mikael! I hear you! But we
don't have the luxury of thinking
about stuff like what the
government is up to. We haven't
eaten in two days. Now someone is
offering us food free of charge.
You're crazy if you think I'm going
to pass that up.

The girls walk away while Mikael trash talks them.
