Reflection Essay 1

This essay for me was a learning experience, although it was not my first time doing an

essay it was my first time doing an academic essay. Learning the process of how to complete an

academic essay was very tedious, following the steps, and figuring out how to format the essay

was also overall annoying. Having learned this, even though it was difficult, will be useful for

future classes. What I learned from this experience can be beneficial for writing assignments in

the future, such as an informative email, an article that calls for in-depth research, or in this case,

an academic essay. I will be more prepared with what is expected when asked to complete an

academic essay.

Although there are many useful factors with this experience, some things that wouldn’t

be applied in other environments could be the formalities that are required in this form of

writing. The analysis of the community helped me in improving my writing process especially

when I was finding information from the community to add as crucial information in my essay.

My strengths that I was able to acknowledge when writing this essay was finding small yet

important details from the community and able to turn it into useful information to utilize further.

With a new approach to the way I research, now after applying this approach, I can research

more while making small notes with good information before I begin the writing process. This

will be supplemental to the way I will begin my drafting process in future writing assignments.

When reading the comments my peers left when reviewing my essay, I did realize a lot of

my common mistakes. One of which I noticed was that I tend to find “big words” to help my

writing sound better, yet while doing this it causes my writing sound awkward to read. One thing

I learned about myself during this writing process is how often I get stuck in my writing. When

writing I sometimes get a couple of ideas out then I might space out for a second and lose my
track of thought. Dealing with this while trying to complete this essay was not only stressful but

also prolonged the process significantly. Overall, the essay was not the breeziest experience, yet

it was very informational, and I will utilize this experience in future tasks.
