Objective: To get familiar with computers and usage of the Internet in
Real life.
Unit 1: Introduction to computers: What are computers, The evolution of
computers, Classification of computers, Block Diagram: Input-output devices,
Computer Memory: Primary Memory & secondary Memory, Memory
Organization, Input/output Ports, Connector, Computer software.
Unit 2: Number System: Introduction; Number System; Conversion from
Decimal to Binary, Octal, Hexadecimal; Conversion of Binary, Octal,
Hexadecimal to Decimal; Conversion of Binary to Octal, Hexadecimal;
Conversion of Octal, Hexadecimal to Binary; Binary Arithmetic; Signed and
Unsigned Numbers; Binary Data Representation; Binary Coding Schemes.
Unit 3: Introduction to Web: Concept of the Internet, Basics of Computer
networking, Types of computer network, connecting to Internet, Need and types
of servers, Concept of WWW, Internet, and WWW, HTTP Protocol: Request and
Response, Web browser and Web servers, Features of Web 2.0
Unit 4: Web Design Issues:
Concepts of effective web design, Web design issues including Browser,
Bandwidth and Cache, Display resolution, Look and Feel of the Website, Page
Layout and linking, User-centric design, Sitemap, Designing effective
navigation
Unit 5: Web Site Building Blocks: Basics of HTML, formatting, and fonts,
commenting code, color, hyperlink, lists, tables, images, forms, Meta tags,
Character entities, frames and frame sets, Browser architecture and Web site
structure. Overview and features of HTML5
Unit 6: CSS Styling:
Need for CSS, introduction to CSS, basic syntax and structure, using CSS,
background images, colors, and properties, manipulating texts, using fonts,
borders and boxes, margins, padding lists, positioning using CSS, CSS2,
