I. INTRODUCTION

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE), commonly referred to as "stomach flu," is a

prevalent gastrointestinal condition characterized by the abrupt onset of

inflammation in the stomach and intestines. This disorder typically results

from viral or bacterial infections and is associated with various distressing

symptoms. Here are some of the key points about acute gastroenteritis.

 Common Gastrointestinal Disorder. Acute gastroenteritis is a prevalent

and frequently encountered gastrointestinal disorder characterized by

inflammation of the stomach and intestines.

 Sudden Onset. This condition typically strikes suddenly, causing a rapid

onset of symptoms that can range from mild to severe, often leading to

discomfort and inconvenience.

 Infectious Etiology. Acute gastroenteritis is primarily infectious in

origin, with viruses (such as norovirus and rotavirus) and bacteria

(including Escherichia coli) being the leading causes of this condition.

 Diverse Symptoms. Patients with acute gastroenteritis can experience a

variety of distressing symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, abdominal

pain, diarrhea, and occasionally fever, depending on the underlying

pathogen and its severity.
