MOTION IN A STRAIGHT LINE
Q1. The acceleration of a particle varies with time t as
a = t² + t + 2
where t is in seconds. The particle starts with an initial velocity v = 3 m/s at t = 0. Find the
velocity of the particle at the end of 5 s.

Q2. The displacement x

√x = t-2
(i) What is the velocity and acceleration of the particle at t = 0?
(ii) When will the velocity of the particle become zero?
(iii) What is the displacement of the particle when its velocity is zero?
(iv) Is the motion of the particle uniformly accelerated or not?

Q3. The position of an object moving along X-axis is given by x = a +bt², where a = 8.5 m, b =
2.5 m/s² and t is measured in seconds. What is its velocity at t= 0 and t=2 s? What is the
average velocity between t = 2 s and t = 4 s?

Q4. A body is projected in a vertical direction. The altitude y is given by y = 10 t²-9t + 5

Calculate the initial velocity of the body.

Q5. The displacement of a particle moving along a straight line is given by

8=3t3+2t²-10t +9
Calculate the velocity at t = 2 s and acceleration at t = 3 s.

Q6. A particle is moving with an initial velocity of 5 ms ¹. What will be

the velocity of the particle at t = 3 s, if the acceleration of the particle is given by
a = 16 t³ - 12t² + 6t - 25

Q7. The velocity of an object varies as v=4kt^3. Calculate the change in position of the ball in
time t.

Q8.A particle executes the motion described by x (t) = x (1-e^yt); t≥ 0, x > 0.

(a) Where does the particle start and with what velocity?
(b) Find maximum and minimum values of x (t), v (t), a(t). Show that x (t) and a (t) increase with
time and v (t) decreases with time.

Q9. A particle moves along straight line OX. At time t (seconds) the distance x (metres) from O
is given by: x = 40 + 12t-t³. How long does the particle travel before coming to rest?

Q10.If the velocity of a particle is

v= At + Bt² where A and B are constant, then calculate the distance travelled by it between 1s
and 2 s.
