INFORMATION FOR AF301 FINAL EXAMINATION

____________________________________________________________________________________________

The final exam has five questions [each worth 20 marks] drawn mainly from the following topics.

• Accounting Measurement Systems [including Current Cost Accounting and Exit Price
Accounting]
• Behavioral Accounting Theory
• Harmonisation and Culture
• Positive Accounting Theory
• Social and Environmental Accounting
• System-based Theories

Prepare thoroughly for all questions rather than gambling on a couple of questions, hoping you will
score sufficient marks to pass the course. The questions may include:

• Calculations and interpretation

• Essays
• Short-answer questions
• Case studies and/or scenarios which require you to apply concepts learnt in the course.

Marks will be awarded based on:

• Relevance e.g., when writing an essay, explicitly address the question using appropriate
terms/vocabulary learnt in the course. You are likely to receive higher marks if you provide
relevant examples to support your arguments. However, you will not receive any marks for
lengthy discussion of irrelevant points or unnecessary repetition of the same issue.
• Coherence and logic, i.e., your explanations must be consistent with your main points.
However, you are likely to lose marks if the marker cannot follow your argument and/or if
your argument is contradictory. [Hint: it’s a good idea to start a paragraph by stating a key
point in the first sentence. Expand on that point in the rest of the paragraph. Begin a new
paragraph when you are ready to discuss another point]
• Legibility and clarity of expression i.e., you are likely to lose marks if the marker cannot
read your handwriting or understand what you are trying to say.

Passing the course

• Irrespective of your coursework, any student who scores less than 40% in the final exam will
automatically fail the course. Similarly, F2F students who attend less than 60% of tutorials
will receive a fail grade.
• To pass the course, you need to score at least 50% overall i.e., coursework plus final exam.

Revision questions

• Some past exam papers are provided on the course Moodle Page to assist with revision.
• Your exam questions may cover the same learning outcomes but will not be the same as
previous questions.

All the best in the final exam!
