ABSTRACT

Self-esteem was a big word with an even bigger impact, however, this can be

dealt with by small changes that we bring in our day-to-day life. Self-esteem was

experienced by students, adolescents and employees. There are a number of incidents in a

person’s life that leads to negative emotions like anger, frustration and nervousness that

further develop poor self-esteem in an individual. This research study employed the

descriptive method of research since its focus was on the description and analysis of the

influence of self-esteem on the academic performance of the students. A qualitative

research method, specifically purposive sampling was used in this study. For this

purpose, 3 participants were randomly selected per grade and strand in senior high

school, with a total of 24 respondents. The researchers put forward interviews with their

selected respondents with a total of 7 questionnaires.

Researchers found out the result of the effect of self-esteem of the students has an

impact on their academic performance. It was discovered that the majority of the

respondents to this survey had low self-esteem, self-doubt, anxiety, were reluctant to act,

and were under physical and mental pressure. The specific explanation for these issues is

discovered in this study. The researchers conclude that the issue found in this study has a

detrimental effect on student’s behavior, and attitude, and even has a severe impact on

their academic performance.
