Factors Affecting Work Performance of Criminology Interns in UM Tagum City

Rationale

The goal of the Bachelor of Science in Criminology degree is to equip students

with knowledge and abilities in the analysis of past and present crime trends, societal

reactions to crime, societal causes of criminality, and the research of delinquency. It

focuses on the procedures and duties of the criminal justice system in the nation. Even

if newly hired employees have prior experience with the machinery or equipment they

will be operating, regardless of the sophistication and predictive validity of the selection

program, it is almost always necessary to expose them to some kind of training before

they can be maximally effective on a new job (Genova et al., 2019).

The aim of which is to advance the organizational goal and boost staff

productivity efficiency. When employees have minimal prior work experience or are

employed for a type of work they have never done, training requirements become more

challenging. It is ideal for the organization's selection processes to guarantee that new

hires are intelligent, talented, and have the right mindset to learn a job. On-the-job

training can be challenging to manage. Students are required to complete the tasks that

their superiors have assigned to them. The trainee was given different units to work on

in order to improve their job performance abilities (Mina & Aydinan, 2019).

Given that it is planned, structured, and carried out at the employee's workplace,

on-the-job training is one of the greatest ways of instruction. It is typically the main

technique utilized for skill expansion. It is especially suitable for the development of job-

specific competency skills, especially for jobs that are relatively simple to learn and

need locally-owned facilities and equipment. "Direct instruction" is another name for it. It

is a one-on-one training session that takes place on the job, where a skilled individual
demonstrates a task to a less skilled one. The majority of the labor that people

performed throughout their on-the-job training was unskilled or semi-skilled labor that

didn't call for specialist knowledge (Taguba, 2022).

Research Objectives

The main purpose of this study is to find out the factors affecting the work

performance of criminology interns in UM Tagum City. Specifically, it aims to answer the

following objectives:

1. To assess the level of the performances of criminology interns on their on-the-job

training in UM Tagum City in terms of:

2.3 organizational environment

3. To determine if there is a significant relationship between the level of the

performances of criminology interns on their on-the-job training in UM Tagum City and

level of the contributing factors that affects the performance of interns in UM Tagum

City.

Hypothesis

Ho: there is no significant relationship between the level of the performances of

criminology interns on their on-the-job training in UM Tagum City and level of the

contributing factors that affects the performance of interns in UM Tagum City was no

correlation between the level of the performances of criminology interns on their on-the-

job training in UM Tagum City and level of the contributing factors that affects the

performance of interns in UM Tagum City.

Theory of the Study/ Theoretical Lens:

This study anchored on the research of Anoyo et al., (2015) one of the best ways

to train is on-the-job, since it's planned, organized and carried out at the workplace.

Generally speaking, it is a method of training for the purpose of improving skills.

Particularly important is developing skills unique to the employment of an employee, in

particular jobs that are relatively easy to learn and require locally owned equipment and

facilities. The students' tasks will have to be performed as requested by their superiors.

To improve the trainee's ability to do his job, a number of units were assigned to him.

One key requirement for improving and developing the productivity of each student is to

ensure superior communication between students. The performance of the Criminology

interns in terms of personal characteristics, attitude towards work, job performance,

adherence to company's rules and regulations, and competence which the aligned to

the contributing factor like individual factor, university support, and organizational

environment contribute to their OJT. As to relationship of variables, Criminology interns'

performance as their OJT is not affected by the contributing factors. The OJT

coordinators should conduct frequent visitations to student interns to ensure that

attendance and punctuality is being observed and practiced. It is also recommended

that the College of Criminology should coordinate with their training affiliation to

supervise the interns.
