Update Map Material

Prerequisites for the Navigation Map Update

 You need the SD-CDA card with the existing map data. You will find the SD-CDA
card installed in the SD card slot of your vehicle. Depending on the vehicle, the
data slots are located in the glove compartment or the storage compartment
above the glove compartment.
 Only navigation data should be stored on the SD-CDA card to ensure smooth
playback.
 For the Windows operating system, you need the data compression program "7-
Zip." You can obtain the program from the manufacturer's website. If you are
using a different operating system, you need a program that supports the ".7z"
file format for unpacking.
 Depending on the package or variant, the map material requires more than 14
GB of storage space. This space must be available on your computer's hard drive.
To allow your computer to handle such large files, the hard drive must be
formatted in NTFS format. This is standard for newer computers; for older ones,
you can check this in Explorer by right-clicking on the respective drive and
selecting "Properties."

Checking the Version You can check the version of the map material on your Discover
Media by pressing the "MENU" button. On your display, select the "Setup" option and
then choose "System Information." Compare the data provided under "Navigation
Database" with the information on our website www.volkswagen.com to check if a new
version is available.

Backing Up Map Material We recommend creating a backup copy of your existing map
material. Here's how:

 Prepare the inserted memory card for removal. To do this, press the Infotainment
button "MENU" and then tap on "Setup." Select the function "Safely Remove" and
then "SD card." After successfully removing the storage device from the system,
the function button will gray out. You can now remove the SD-CDA card from the
SD card slot.
 Slide the switch on the SD-CDA card to the "unlock" position and insert it into the
SD card slot of your computer or into an SD card reader connected to your
computer.
 Create a folder on your computer for the backup copy of the map data.
 Copy all data from the SD-CDA card to the folder you just created on your
computer.

Downloading the New Map Material

 For the download, visit the website http://webspecial.volkswagen.com/maps/en/

 After logging in to the myVolkswagen portal and selecting the appropriate
vehicle and radio/navigation system, the suitable map material will be made
available to you. Please choose the relevant map package. Due to the large
amount of data, it is recommended to use a download manager.

Note: Depending on your internet connection speed, the download may take several
hours. The downloaded file is in 7z format.

 Download the complete file of the new version and save it in a separate folder
(for example, "MapUpdate") on your computer.
 The offered country variant for download is predetermined and cannot be
changed. Removing or adding individual countries is not possible.

Note: Computers with a Windows operating system typically have a preconfigured

power-saving function, causing the computer to enter hibernation after a certain period
of inactivity. This can interrupt a running download or result in incomplete downloading
of the map material. Therefore, we recommend setting the hibernation mode to "Never"
for the duration of the download.

Preparing the SD-CDA Card

 Slide the switch on the SD-CDA card to the "unlock" position. Insert the SD-CDA
card into your computer if it's not already in the SD card slot due to the data
backup.

Note: Delete all files on the SD-CDA card or format your SD-CDA card. The card must be
formatted as a FAT32 partition. The formatting process depends on the operating
system. In Windows, you need to access the SD card drive and click "format" via the
right mouse button. For other operating systems, refer to the manufacturer's
information. We recommend a 4,096-byte allocation unit size when formatting.
Unpacking Map Material Note: If the map update is performed with the Apple®
operating system OS X, it may happen that Discover Media does not recognize or
displays the navigation data incorrectly. This is often due to inadequate compatibility
between the "7-zip" program and the OS X operating system. In addition, the OS X
operating system tends to create hidden additional files on external storage devices.
Therefore, we recommend the "Keka" unpacking program for OS X users. To remove any
potentially existing hidden files, we recommend using the "CleanMyDrive" program.

 Right-click on the file with the extension "7z." In the window that appears, select
"7-Zip" and then click "Open" in the next window. Image 3: Archive content (Map

 In the subsequent window Image 3, select "Extract." In the following window

Image 4, select the drive letter of the SD card slot where the SD-CDA card is
located for unpacking the map material. Alternatively, the map material can be
unpacked on the computer and then moved to the SD-CDA card.
 After the successful unpacking process, please remove the SD-CDA card from the
SD card slot. Now slide the switch on your SD card back down to the "lock"
position.

To avoid data loss or damage to the file system of the SD-CDA card, you should always
log out the SD-CDA card from the system before removing it (safely remove hardware
and eject media).

Installing Map Material

 Insert the SD-CDA card into the SD card slot of your vehicle until it audibly locks
into place.
 The device will recognize the inserted SD-CDA card, and the updated navigation
data will be available to you.

Note: Since the navigation data remains on the SD-CDA card in the vehicle, it is exposed
to extreme environmental conditions. To ensure continuous functioning of the
navigation system, your Discover Media only accepts SD-CDA cards approved by
Volkswagen. If you lose or damage your original card, you can get a replacement from
your local Volkswagen service partner.
