Objectives:

At the end of this task performance, the students should be able to:

Create a blog using WordPress that contains timely and relevant news stories about a particular socio-
political issue well-tailored to a specific group of media consumers

Materials:

▪ Desktop or Laptop

Basic Principles:

WordPress is an open-source Content Management System (CMS), allowing users to build dynamic websites and blogs.
WordPress is a popular blogging system that allows updating, customizing, and managing the website from its back-end
CMS and components. WordPress was initially released on 27th May 2003 by Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little. WordPress
was announced as an open-source in October 2009. The Content Management System (CMS), on the other hand, is a
software that stores data such as text, photos, music, documents that are then made available on its respective website.
It helps in editing, publishing, and modifying the uploaded content.

Dashboard
The WordPress Dashboard is the first screen you will see when you log into your blog's administration area, which will
display an overview of the website. You can customize your needs by using quick links such as writing a quick draft,
replying to the latest comment, etc. To be able to access your dashboard, add /wp-admin in your domain. The
Dashboard can be categorized, as shown in the following picture.

Dashboard Menu
The Dashboard menu provides a list of navigation controls for customizing posts, media libraries, pages, comments,
appearance options, plugins, users, tools, and settings situated on the screen's left side.

Screen Options
The dashboard contains checkboxes that are used to customized screen options reflected on the admin screen.

Welcome
It includes the Customize Your Site button, which allows you to change your WordPress theme. The middle column
provides useful links in creating a blog post or even a page. The last column contains links to widgets, menus, and settings
related to comments.

Quick Draft
The Quick Draft is a mini post editor that allows writing, saving, and publishing a post from the admin dashboard.

Activity
The Activity widget includes the latest comments on your blog. It allows you to approve, disapprove, reply, edit, or delete
a comment. It also allows you to move a comment to spam.

situate it in your homepage's different sections. Apply the technicalities of web publishing through
WordPress, as discussed in the lesson.
