Strategies Used to Attract Tourists From the United States


In the era of globalization like today, tourist activities or tourist destinations between
countries have become a lifestyle that is favored by almost everyone in the world. Because of
this, the managers of tourist attractions must find ways to target foreign tourists from various
countries to come to their tourist attractions. The United States (USA) is one of the suitable
countries to target in order to bring in their tourists. To be able to do this, we must do research on
the behavior and culture of tourists from these countries in order to make them feel at home and
will also often visit a tourist destination.

The United States is a country located on the North American continent and has an area
of 9,833,517 km2 with a population of 334,998,398 people which makes this country the 4th
largest country in the world and the third largest population in the world after China. The United
States consists of 50 states and a federal district. There are two states that are located separately
from the mainland United States, namely the state of Alaska, which is located at the north end of
the North American continent and is very close to the western part of Russia. The closest
distance between Alaska and Russia is 82 km and is separated by the Bering Strait. Meanwhile,
the state of Hawaii is located in the Pacific Ocean. The capital of the United States is
Washington, DC.

The United States Government System is a Federal Constitutional Republic, which is a


system of government in which the head of state and head of government is a President who is
elected every 4 years and can be re-elected for a maximum of 2 terms. The President is also the
Commander-in-Chief of the United States National Armed Forces. Since declaring its
independence on July 4, 1776 to date, the United States has been led by 45 Presidents.

The United States is classified as a country with the most advanced economy in the
world, some of the famous brands in the world of technology come from a country that has a
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of US $ 19.846 trillion (2020). These brands include Microsoft,
Apple, Google, Amazon, Twitter, Facebook and many more.

To target US tourists, we must first know what the culture and behavior of these tourists
are while traveling to other countries. Based on data from UNWTO, International Tourism
Expenditure from the United States reached 131 billion dollars. Meanwhile, the International
Tourism Departure reached 99 million people in 2019.
The data above shows that the interest in traveling from the population of the United
States is very high and the way to target them is also quite easy. This is because the United States
is a country of immigrants and has various ethnic groups, cultures and also their habits are also
diverse. Therefore, they are very open to foreign cultures that they meet in tourist attractions,
because even in their own country they have very often seen cultural differences. Data from
various sources also show that tourists from the United States really like adventure-themed
tourist attractions and this should make tourism managers have to adjust to the interests of
tourists from the United States.
