SONY Radio ICF-SW 1 Disassembly_Repair (Electrolytic Capacitor Replacement)

ICF-SW 1 is in the long, medium, and shortwave bands. In addition, it is a

high-performance small radio that can receive up to the FM band.
Unfortunately, the internal electrolytic capacitor seems to be defective.

The following photo shows the SONY Radio ICF-SW 1.

The next photo is the back side. Disassemble to replace the electrolytic
capacitor.
First, remove the screws of the yellow arrow.

point is the screw hidden by the black film behind the "volume volume".
It's hard to find this screw. The knob of the volume can be easily removed by
floating it with
a small flat-blade screwdriver. Do not remove the screw in the center of the
volume.

After removing the back pig, remove the screws of the yellow arrow in the
photo.
Remove the screws in the red circle and remove the rod antenna.
The following photo shows the circuit board removed.

Peel off the black film on the board, melt the solder of the red arrow, and
remove the three ground wires (three red circle wires).
Melt the solder of the yellow arrow and remove the black speaker wire (two
yellow circles).
Remove the screws (red circles in the figure below) that hold the button panel
board in place.
Remove the screws (yellow circles in the figure below) that hold the LCD panel
board.

The deteriorating electrolytic capacitor came into view. Remove the condenser
indicated by the arrow.
Melt the solder to which the condenser is connected one by one and carefully
remove it little by little.
Precautions:
Add solder to the connection of the condenser to melt it, and remove the
capacitor as
if the capacitor is floating.
(If the solder is not sufficiently melted and pulled, the pattern of the substrate
will peel off).
(The old condenser can go bad in the heat, so melt the solder on the foot
sufficiently)

The photo below shows the electrolytic capacitor that was removed.
From left to right: 220 μF, 220 μF, 33 μF, 100 μF, 47 μF, 47 μF.

The yellow frame in the photo below is the newly installed "chip multilayer
ceramic capacitor".
Although it looks large in the photo, 47 μF is very small, so soldering is difficult.
33 μF is substituted with 47 μF (this is not a problem because the difference is
small).

The figure below shows the following: This is the size of the newly installed chip
multilayer ceramic capacitor.
The 47 μF in the upper left corner is very small, making it difficult to install with
a soldering iron.
It is OK to substitute 47 μF and 33 μF with 100 μF (I checked the operation by
substituting it).

The lower right of the figure below is a molded capacitor with a lead wire
attached to a chip stacked capacitor.
Since there are lead wires, it is easy to install. For 47 μF and 33 μF, 100 μF
with lead wires is also
available.
After installing the capacitor, check whether
the solder is in contact with the pattern that is approaching, and reassemble
the board by the reverse procedure of the disassembly procedure.
