HANDS-ON PROJECT - 1

Creating an Effective
Product Roadmap

About Flipkart
Flipkart, a prominent Indian e-commerce platform, offers a diverse range of
products across various categories. Founded in 2007, it has become a trusted
name in the online retail industry. With a focus on customer satisfaction,
Flipkart provides an extensive selection of products at competitive prices,
catering to the needs of millions of consumers. Its innovative features like
cash-on-delivery, easy returns, and multiple payment options have made
shopping convenient and hassle-free. Acquired by Walmart in 2018, Flipkart
continues to revolutionise the Indian e-commerce landscape, contributing to
the growth and popularity of online shopping in the country.
Problem Statement
For H2 2023, Flipkart as a company is focused on 3 major goals via their
product: Reducing order cancellations/returns, improving discoverability of
products and growing to the next billion users. Keeping these objectives in
mind as a Product Manager, plan a product roadmap that ensures the half
yearly goals are met.

1.1 Reducing Order Cancellations/Returns

Flipkart aims to address the issue of high order cancellations and returns in H2
2023. The company recognizes that these incidents not only impact customer
satisfaction but also result in operational inefficiencies and additional costs.
The challenge is to identify the root causes of order cancellations and returns,
whether it's related to product quality, inaccurate descriptions, or delivery
issues. The product roadmap should focus on implementing strategies to
minimise these incidents, such as improving product information accuracy,
enhancing quality control processes, optimising logistics and delivery systems,
and streamlining the return process for customers.

1.2 Improving Discoverability of Products

Flipkart acknowledges the need to enhance the discoverability of products on

its platform in H2 2023. With an ever-expanding catalogue, it becomes crucial
to ensure that customers can easily find the products they are looking for. The
challenge lies in improving the search algorithms, enhancing product
categorization and filtering options, and implementing personalised
recommendations based on user preferences and browsing history. The
product roadmap should prioritize these enhancements to enhance the
overall shopping experience, increase customer engagement, and boost sales.

1.2 Improving Discoverability of Products

Flipkart has set a goal to expand its user base to the next billion users in H2
2023. To achieve this, the company needs to overcome various challenges such
as catering to diverse regional preferences, addressing language barriers, and
improving accessibility for users with limited internet connectivity. The
product roadmap should focus on localization efforts, including multilingual
support, region-specific promotions, and partnerships with local vendors.
Additionally, the roadmap should consider developing a lighter version of the
platform that is optimized for low-bandwidth connections, enabling users in
remote areas to access Flipkart seamlessly.
By addressing these three problem statements, create a product roadmap
which will help Flipkart align its objectives and ensure the successful
achievement of its goals for H2 2023.
