TRANSFOMER TURNS RATIO (TTR) TEST PROCEDURE

1. Connect the C13 type power cable rated at least 10A to the main input.

2. Connect a protective earth line to the protective earth terminal.

3. With the built-in fully automatic multiplexer, only a one-time connection is required for nearly all
functions as shown below. Figure 1 illustrates the cable connection diagram of the measuring
cables for both the primary and the secondary side of the transformer.
i) The red Measuring Cables H (H0-H3) is connected to the high voltage side receptacle of the
mini-ATOS (H0-H3) and the primary side of the transformer (H0-H3).
ii) The black Measuring Cables X (X0-X3) is connected to the low voltage side receptacle of the
mini-ATOS (X0-X3) and the secondary side of the transformer (X0-X3).

4. Under the Settings tab (Date & Time), enter the Date, Time, Time Zone, and the chosen date and
format.

5. In the Settings tab (Regional), Select the following information: Language, Temperature Unit,
Decimal Separator, and CSV Separator.

6. Also, under the Settings tab (Naming Scheme), select the appropriate naming scheme such as
IEEE, IEC or ABCN from the dropdown menu.

7. In the Home screen, Access to the main parts of the operation menu is available.
i. In the test object window, define a new test object or edit an existing test object. The
system assigns a name of the new test object and can be easily changed by tapping the
name or the pencil symbol.
ii. Click on the save icon to store all the entered test object information.
8. Proceed to the Windings tab and enter all the information such as winding type, vector groups
and number of taps. Auto detect feature option is also available by pressing the Detect tab.
Note: It is not possible to make changes in the winding information once the test object is
created.

9. Enter the transformer nameplate information in the Nameplate tab.

10. Input various information in the General tab of the test object such as Naming Scheme
Reference Temp and Temperature Coefficient.

11. In the Tap changer tab, Enter the type which can be classified as: De-Energized Tap Changer
(DETC ) and On Load Tap Changer (OLTP). Selecting the appropriate type is crucial to exercise
caution and avoid mistakenly selecting an OLTC type for a DETC type.

Warning! Do not select OLTC type for a DETC tap changer! Keeping DC current on
during tap changing of a DETC may damage the DETC contacts which cause a
transformer failure!

12. In the Electrical values tab, enter the label for each tap and their corresponding rated voltage
values. Wizards can also be used to enter the values easier by using the First/Last method or
RefTap/Step method.

13. Under the Turns Ratio setting, the test voltage can be set from 10VAC, 40VAC, 100VA or 250VAC.
Adding user defined test voltages from 2VAC to 250VAC can be performed by tapping on the +
button. Enter the appropriate test voltage for the test and the Max Error of 0.5%. Note: Auto
detect function can be used to find out the suitable test voltage by tapping on the search icon.

14. In the Test plan tab, select the Turns Ratio test.

15. Always keep a minimum safety distance of 1.5m or 5ft from the transformer when performing
the test.

16. Start the test by pressing the Run Test ABC button. The test mode can perform single
measurement or continuous mode depending on the selection made.

17. During the testing, the measurement view displays a WARNING symbol which indicates that
Voltage is Applied, and it is not safe to touch the cables and test clamps. Similarly, the LED’s also
indicates whether it is ongoing a test “TEST ON” (red LED) and when it is “SAFE” (green LED)

18. It takes time for the transformer to discharge even after the measurement stop. Wait until the
device is in SAFE mode before performing any other action.

19. The test results can either be shown in table view or graph from the dropdown menu.
Figure 2 and Figure 3 shows the Turns Ratio (TR) and Voltage Ratio (VR) measurement test results in
table view.
